Chapter 789: Chapter 789. Fighting the Armored Giant

The Elder God Veil deactivated when Amon lost consciousness. He wiped the sweat on his forehead. Though he didn’t exert much from fighting the snail beast, getting hit twice by its mind blast caused him incredible fatigue. He knew this was just a ntal state. He wasn’t truly tired. It was his mind making him believe he was tired. So, he focused his mind to dispel the feeling. While doing that, he observed the situation.

The armored giant remained on its original spot. It didn’t seem to have any intention of doing anything. Amon wondered why they chose such an unassertive beast for this trial. He suspected it was another of Xlasstazh’s attempts to increase his success chance in this trial.

He didn’t reject the gift. He would leave the armored giant for last. He looked at the insect-head and flower-head beasts. The two were still tussling, but their aggression had significantly toned down. The two appeared sluggish.

Amon spotted many abrasions on the flower-head beast’s body. These abrasions had blood leaking out, and the surrounding flesh appeared to be decaying. These abrasions were the result of getting hit by the high-pressure liquid shot by the insect-head beast’s tentacled arm.

Amon also saw the flower-head beast spit out so powder from its mouth. This powder seed harmless, but the insect-head beast tried avoiding it as best as it could. It failed, though. The powder covered a large area and spread quickly.

Amon understood then. The two altered beasts used poison. The liquid from the insect-head beast deteriorated the flesh and caused bleeding, while the powder from the flower-head beast was most likely poisonous pollen that weakened anything that breathed it in.

Amon had a high resistance to poison thanks to the Poison Blood Infusion thod, but he chose to stay out of the two’s conflict. Let them weaken each other further.

He turned to Surressh. The Hyanid kept his advantage. His spear kept driving the dog beast back. The beast’s body sported many bloody wounds. Many of the snakes on its back had severed heads, including so that held Amon’s Alpha Flying Knives.

Amon flew over and asserted control over the knives once he was in range. Because so of the snakes had their heads cut off, their grips on the knives were no longer as strong. Amon tore the knives out before sending them right back. The knives stabbed into the body of the surprised dog beast.

Surressh utilized the opportunity when the dog beast was stunned by Amon’s knives. He perford a martial art. His spear spun as he thrusted it forward. The powerful drilling thrust bore into the dog beast and ca out the other side.

The dog beast dropped to the ground. It no longer moved, but the snakes on its back continued to hiss at Surressh. It appeared that those snakes possessed separate lives from the dog beast they lived on. However, with their host already dead, they couldn’t move their positions.

Surressh ignored the snakes. They would die on their own eventually. He walked toward Amon, who had retracted his Alpha Flying Knives.

"... Thank you for the assist," Surressh said.

"You are welco. We are in this together," Amon said. "Our problem, however, just begins. We must defeat that armored giant if we wish to have any chance of surviving this trial."

"What about the ones over there?" Surressh turned to the two tussling beasts.

As they looked over, the insect-head beast was too intoxicated to move. The flower-head beast delivered a finishing assault by using the large mouth at the center of its flowered head to bite its opponent’s head. With one chomp, it tore the head off. The headless beast slumped to the ground.

The flower-head beast turned to Amon and Surressh and began crawling over, but it didn’t reach far. The many wounds in its body kept leaking blood. The decay of its flesh had also spread and almost covered its entire body. Halfway through, it tripped and fell to the ground. It didn’t rise again.

"Only one left," Amon returned his attention to the armored giant.

"How should we fight it? Its skin seems impenetrable," Surressh asked.

"The sa way I dispatch that snail beast," Amon answered.

Surressh looked at the black pond and said, "Alright."

"I will pull his attention. Support

with your long-range arts," Amon said. The shadow suit covered his body again. "Despite its size, we have seen that its speed is not to be scoffed at. Use your gravity elents to slow him down."

"Got it," Surressh replied.

Amon floated toward the armored giant. He positioned himself so the black pond was behind him. Before getting too close, he sent his Alpha Flying Knives. The knives, coated by darkness, beca dark javelins.

The armored giant finally moved. It turned its head to the six incoming weapons, but otherwise stayed in its spot. The dark javelins hit the rock plates covering its body and bounced off with a clang. The dark javelins began spinning and turned into dark chakrams. They flew back and hit the armored giant again.

This repeated several tis until the giant moved its arm. Its speed was even faster than when it dispatched the snake beast. The arm beca a blur and caught one of the dark chakrams. It clenched, and the knife broke apart.

Its arms moved again, catching two more knives and breaking them. Amon recalled the remaining three knives. They returned to his side and hovered beside him.

The armored giant finally took account of Amon. It walked toward him. Its gait was slow, as if it were taking a casual stroll. Amon waited for it to get slightly closer before he floated back toward the black pond.

The mont Amon moved away, the armored giant changed its pace. It dashed forward. Amon was ready for its speed, but he was still almost caught off-guard. The giant’s huge fist ca down on him. He barely dodged it. The fist crashed into the ground, creating a crater.

Amon’s four dark tentacles wrapped around the giant. He wanted to throw the giant the sa way he had thrown the snail beast, but the giant didn’t budge. Amon was as if trying to move a mountain.

The armored giant heaved, and the four dark tentacles snapped into harmless smoke.

Amon dashed away when he saw the giant easily destroy his dark tentacles. The giant didn’t let him go. Now that it was provoked, it wasn’t going to let the provocateur go. The giant showed its uncanny speed again. Amon used the Invisible Sky Steps to keep himself out of reach, but it was getting harder with each dodge. The giant’s attack styles were simple, but its base attributes were insane.

A grey ball flew in between Amon and the armored giant. It exploded and turned the area slightly greyish. When the giant entered this area, it decelerated.

The grey ball was Surressh’s gravity bomb. It was an arcane art where he intensified the gravity of a distant area.

With the assist, Amon could take a breather. He adjusted his flight and headed to the black pond again. The armored giant continued to chase. Surressh continued throwing the gravity bombs, easing Amon’s work at goading the giant.

Amon finally arrived near the black pond. He had seen that the black pond only unleashed its absorbing power when sothing touched it, so he was not afraid to fly above it. He floated above the black pond and waited for the armored giant to approach.

The armored giant stopped a few ters away. It was no longer charging over like before. It seed to sense danger from the pond.

’Tch!" Amon uttered. A beast’s instinct was sharper than a human’s. Though the armored beast didn’t understand why the black pond was dangerous, it could still feel it.

Amon must provoke it further. He threw several flying knives. He also sent his remaining three Alpha Flying Knives to the armored giant. The armored giant moved its arms and crushed the incoming darkness-coated knives. Even when it failed to catch a few, these knives bounced off its protective plates without causing any wounds.

The three Alpha Flying Knives circled the armored giant and stabbed into the narrow slits between the giant’s protective plates. It still failed to pierce the hard flesh, but the Elder God Veil’s eroding power scraped the flesh.

The armored giant rarely felt anything due to its hard armor, so this simple scraping caused it extre discomfort, even when it was not painful. It swung its arm in anger, breaking two out of the three Alpha Flying Knives before they flew away.

Amon didn’t stop. The four tentacles on his back had reford. They lashed at the armored giant, targeting the slits again. He still couldn’t wound the giant, but it was enraged enough. It lunged toward Amon.

Amon flew up. Ready to deliver a downward push on the giant when it passed above the pond. However, the giant planted its feet right next to the pond. It raised its arms at Amon. The plates on those arms opened, and a shockwave accompanied by a loud sound was released.

This shockwave hit a large area. Amon couldn’t dodge it. The blast sent him crashing into the barrier above. He fell back down, directly toward the black pond below.
