Chapter 483: Chapter 483. Confirmation of the Assassin’s Identity

The Yao Birdling navigated the smoke, following its senses. As for its rider and Gui Xa, they were blind. They couldn’t sense anything because the smoke ssed with the aura.

"We will be upon him!" The rider inford Gui Xa.

The Yao Birdling opened its mouth, ready to bite. The rider swung his weapon, which was a long glaive. Gui Xa, who was riding behind, ready his spear to stab.

Amon ca into view then. The second they spotted Amon, Amon also turned to them. Amon swung his black dagger at them. However, sothing was different with the dagger. A black fla was engulfing it. This black fla made the dagger look like it was a black longsword.

This black flaming longsword made contact with the rider’s glaive. The black sword went right through without any resistance. The glaive split and the black sword didn’t slow. It continued slicing through the Yao Birdling and its rider, cutting both in two.

Gui Xa was shocked by what he witnessed. He imdiately jumped away before the black longsword touched him. As he did, he sensed the aura of the black longsword passing near him.

"Dark... Darkness elent?" He blurted.

Before his shock was over, he caught sight of Amon forming a water ring, which split into five rings that flew at him. The aura he sensed from these five rings gave him another shock.

"Demonic energy...!" He exclaid.

He channeled his aether into his spear, which coated it with a protective water layer. He then used martial arts that had his spears stabbed these five rings simultaneously. He managed to deflect the rings, but to his consternation, the power behind those demonic water rings was way higher than he expected. He was shoved back from the impact and almost lost grip on his spear.

When he saw the water rings change direction in the air and disappear into the smoke, he quickly flew further back. Those flight changes indicated that Amon could control the ring’s trajectory. With all the black smoke around him, he couldn’t afford to get caught off guard by those water rings.

While flying back, his Spirit Sense suddenly detected sothing alarming behind him. To detect sothing within this smoke ant it was dangerously close. He didn’t waste ti to look back at what it was. He imdiately stopped and flew back forward.

However, it was too late.

That sothing he sensed lashed toward him. He saw it when it ca up beside him, a long darkness that looked like the tentacle of a giant monster. This tentacle curled around him. He wanted to change direction and flew up to avoid getting caught, but he noticed this tentacle too late. His reaction was not fast enough.

He placed his spear before him and used a defensive arcane art that coated his entire body with a layer of water shield before the tentacle entangled him. The tentacle couldn’t touch his body due to this layer of water shield. A hissing sound was heard when the black tentacle touched the water shield.

Gui Xa managed to stop the tentacle from directly touching him, but he was still caught in it. He couldn’t move away. The tentacle held him tightly, refusing to let go. It was a contest of strength now.

While he struggled to free himself, he saw Amon erge from the smoke. Amon slowly floated toward him.

"You... Why does your art possess such a strength?" He asked.

The Elder God Tentacles were already powerful, to begin with. Amon also possessed the boosted strength that let him contest a Beginning Spirit Stage cultivator. Additionally, Amon used the combined aether inside his mixed energy space. The black tentacle entangling Gui Xa had both the divine and infernal energies powering it. Its power was way higher than normal.

Amon grinned and returned Gui Xa’s words, "What is the use for a dead man to know?"

Amon clenched his fist, and the pressure applied by the black tentacle multiplied. Gui Xa’s defensive art couldn’t hold it anymore. The tentacle broke through the shield layer and ca into contact with Gui Xa’s body. Gui Xa felt that the parts touched by the tentacle were like being drenched in acid. It burned.

"Aahhhh...!!!" Gui Xa scread in pain as his body was eroded.

Out of desperation, he summoned all his strength and pushed using his spear. The tentacle was forced to loosen a little, but the spear soon gave way. The tal shaft of the spear pushing the tentacle was also eroded. Since it didn’t have much mass, it was eroded faster. The spear dissolved in its mid-section and split into two. The tentacle slipped past the broken spear and reaffird its hold on Gui Xa’s torso.

"No...! Stop! Let

go! Let

go...!!" Gui Xa yelled in fear and desperation.

Amon didn’t show rcy. The tentacle continued to tighten, eroding Gui Xa’s body little by little. Blood oozed from the point of contact. Gui Xa’s pleading cry beca weaker with each second.

Finally, he stopped crying.

His body split in two. The parts gripped by the tentacle were completely eroded. Amon caught the upper part before it fell. He removed the space ring on Gui Xa’s finger before tossing his corpse. He intruded on the space ring without difficulty since the owner was dead.

Not many things were inside. Assassins like Gui Xa didn’t carry many possessions except for the tools needed for the mission and a few aer stones. Since there were not many things, his search didn’t take long. He took out a small badge.

For Gui Xa to bring this thing along, he guessed the assassin was cockier than expected. The badge in his hand was a formal kingdom badge that identified Gui Xa as a mber of Echos’ Royal Assassins. Standard procedure forbade an agent from bringing this badge during a covert mission. This was to prevent the identity of the agent from being revealed in case he was killed or captured. Gui Xa must have never thought he would fail this mission so he didn’t bother to stash this badge.

Amon stored the royal assassin badge. He then flew up until he was out of the black smoke. He looked around and saw the Yao Bird fly away. It had many wounds in its body. From the way it swayed in its flight, he could also tell the beast was undergoing a severe ntal problem. It was understandable, considering its master had just died.

Amon heard a shriek and saw the Sun Hawk and Lin Li approaching. The Sun Hawk had so wounds in it.

"Sorry, we fail to slay the Yao Bird, brother. It was very formidable," Lin Li said apologetically.

"That’s fine. You two did a great job," Amon praised.

He looked again at the Yao Bird. Though the Sun Hawk was an exceptional beast to ta, the Yao Bird suited him more. Its black smoke could serve as a veil that let him utilize his demon power and art without worrying people outside the smoke from finding out, just like what he did against Gui Xa just now.

Unfortunately, the Yao Bird was also very rare. He had heard a rumor that the royal assassins had a secret facility where they raised Yao Birdlings and Yao Beastlings, which could evolve into Yao Bird and Yao Beast. After seeing these assassins ride so many Yao Birdlings, he concluded the rumor to be true. Maybe after he helped Huang San ascend the throne, he could ask for access to this facility.

Amon ordered Lin Li to return to the black space ring. He then rode the Sun Hawk back to the great eagle.

By then, the great eagle was on its last legs. Its body was drenched with bloody wounds. Only three soldiers were left inside the howdah, which had mostly broken apart. These soldiers had run out of arrows and javelins. They fought using swords and spears while clinging to the great eagle.

The Yao Birdling riders also lost another mber. Only three were left. All three Yao Birdlings had multiple arrows and javelins stuck in their bodies.

Amon didn’t help those soldiers. He waited.

He didn’t wait long. The great eagle finally succumbed after one of the Yao Birdlings sneaked behind it and bit its neck. It screeched one last ti before breathing its last. Its large body fell from the air.

Out of the three remaining soldiers, only one was at the Mystic Stage, Captain Yong Cao. He used his Mystic Stage power to remain in the air, but his slow flying speed made him easy prey to the three Yao Birdlings. The three circled him before lunging at him from different directions. He couldn’t stop all three. The Yao Birdlings bit him in separate places.

Before his end, Yong Cao saw Amon in the distance. His last thought was why this man they defended with their lives just stood there while they were being butchered.

The three Yao Birdlings pulled in different directions, and Yong Cao’s body was ripped to pieces.
