"Say Zydrax. What kind of island do you think is the least challenged?"
[...I would guess that it would be the islands of light elent]
"Alright then" says Ezra, automatically picking his next target.
Still annoyed by the blue dragons stealing his rewards, Ezra sought to make sure such a wouldn’t happen a second ti.
Therefore, challenging an island of light would be the best option.
Already deep into the secret realms territory, Ezra heads in deeper, decreasing his chances of eting another group.
Taking his ti, it takes him five minutes to spot one such island.
Closing in, Ezra finds the island to be just as he had expected, endlessly bright.
Covered by a transparent mbrane, it looks like a supercharged lightbulb about to explode.
This alone has Ezra questioning whether he should attempt it, but he decides to venture within to confirm, as he could escape anyti.
’Hopefully, it’s only it’s exterior that looks this’
Unfortunately for Ezra, the opposite turned out true.
Stepping through the transparent mbrane, Ezra finds himself in an expanse of bright light, which blind him, forcing him to close his eyes.
Eyes closed, Ezra is forced to rely on his other senses as he slowly strides across the section.
Already sure that the section had more surprises in store for challengers, Ezra’s ears perked up, alert for any sound, wondering what sort of challenge it would be while walking forward.
Then, a short sound resonates.
*P-um*
Sounding ridiculous, Ezra had no chance to laugh because sothing struck him right after that sound and sent him flying backwards, landing with his back to the ground.
Dazed, Ezra blinks, hurting his eyes, before slowly standing.
"What was that?" He mutters under his breath, veering his head around to see if he could hear anything, but he can’t.
Just then...
*P-um*
This ti, Ezra puts up an ice barrier, but as it starts forming, he is hit, thrown backwards against.
Did I ntion that the attack burns? The last one has power imbued into it, this one stung a bit more.
Seeing as he couldn’t sense the attackers at all, Ezra is quick to acknowledge his predicant, and calls upon his advisor.
’Zydrax, I need help. I can’t sense anyone nearby, is there a way for to reduce the light around eyes’
[I don’t think seeing would do you any good against these beasts] he says. [The reason you can’t hear them move is because they aren’t]
’I see. Thank you’
Testing things, Ezra walks while squatting rather than standing, but a third attack is sent his way.
This one is more painful than the last.
Annoyed, Ezra confirms that it’s not about standing and guesses that those creatures can probably see him.
Not to ntion, he had morized from where the last attack ca from.
So Ezra serves a dish of payback by sending a beam of not ice but fire in the direction of the attack.
Sure enough, sothing cries out monts after and rapidly blinking, Ezra makes out the visage of a beast.
Four legs, it had the outline of a large lizard, smaller than all the other beasts he had faced until now and it was running around because its lower half including its tail had caught on fire.
As for the upper half, it looked to have integrated itself with the surroundings, holding the sa bright hue as the light, which is why Ezra can’t make out its facial features.
’So, they camouflage themselves by shifting their skin tones or sothing like that. I see’
Just as Ezra would smirk and give himself a ntal pat on the back, he hears a familiar sound.
*P-um*
Instinctively, Ezra jumps, and as he kept blinking, he could see what looked like a ray of light flash past the position he had been standing in.
’Of course. It’s a light beam’ said Ezra. ’No wonder it’s so fast’
Right then,
*P-um*
Ezra is struck while falling and blown ters away before landing.
’This one really hurt’
Groaning, Ezra takes out Skyfall, rising to his feet once more, pissed at such annoying attacks.
Fishing out and catching everyone of these lizards one by one would be much too stressful.
Instead, Ezra simply pours energy into Skyfall and starts spinning, pouring out a barrage of fire slashes in all directions.
Imdiately, he could hear many squirms and screams, proving their numbers to far more than he originally thought as they began running around
But he’s forced to stop as a beam of light hits him, breaking his montum.
Though pushed back, Ezra does not fall down, and reacts by pouring out his energy as darkness, letting off fus of darkness cover his nearby surroundings and this allowing him to properly open his eye.
"Huh?"
Just as he did this, Ezra felt the darkness being erased as a result of the environnt he lay within.
"But of course it’s not that easy" Ezra grumbles.
Looking around he can see various lizards running around heedlessly as so sought to kill the fire on their skin while others seed to be only panicking.
*Ssss*
Ezra sees one of them actually do so, causing his eyes to widen in surprise.
Before he could even process it, three light beams started to rain down on his position, piercing through his shawl of darkness around him.
Dodging, Ezra is still hit a few tis as the lizards thoroughly focus their firepower on him.
While rolling around, Ezra doesn’t stop thinking.
’Well, this is bad’
With the lizards able to put out the fire, he surmised that he’d need stronger, sure-fire attacks to kill them, but blindly throwing out a barrage of such attacks would have him dried of energy in no ti.
And with an estimate to the number of these beasts, depleting his energy would just have him done for.
Thankfully, because of his earlier attack, they were moving around much more now, so he can hear them, pinpoint their location and this dodge their light beams better.
But even with all this, Ezra is still just one person against multiple beasts.
Not to ntion, their small fra makes it hard to land decisive blows, it had to be precise, but their slippery movents made it easy for them to dodge in these instances.
They had only been caught off guard the first ti.
Then, because of the environnt, universal concealnt wasn’t going to be of much help.
Since he had released darkness particles to dim the surrounding lights enough to comfortably look around, what use would concealnt do.
Though tempted to simply run towards the section wall that surely lies not much further in, he wouldn’t be able to pass if he hadn’t fulfilled whatever requirent had been put in place.
Yet, Ezra isn’t getting closer to even knowing what the said requirent is!
’Do I have to kill the beasts in here?’ he wonders. ’Or a certain number of them? Or maybe a certain type?’ Or is there sothing else I’m still missing?’
As thoughts threaten to overwhelm him, Ezra forcefully calms down and begins to observe better.
In any case, if the situation turns dire, he could easily take shelter in the sovereign universe.
So, Ezra doesn’t hold back his energy anymore and releases darkness into the environnt, covering a much larger area than before and begins counterattacking for real.
Here, he notices an incongruity.
The lizards he slashed simply dissolved into vapour, but they left no rewards behind.
’Strange’ Ezra thought. ’Does the reward only reveal itself after I’ve completed the requirent like with the minotaur...or is there sothing else going on..?’
Holding this observation, Ezra attacks more and more of the lizards, yet the sa thing keeps happening.
Five minutes later, he notices another strange point.
’Those lizards, none of them are attacking ’
While light beams were still raining down on him, none of the lizards closest to him shot light beams at him, they were only running, even when confronted.
Finding this point suspicious, Ezra turns his attention to the ones shooting out the light beams and begins hunting them down.
Picking the closest one as his target, Ezra chases it, forgoing all others and focuses his attacks on this single lizard while dodging the remaining light beams.
If nothing else, Ezra felt the pressure of the attacks visibly increase, which he took as a sign that he was on the right track.
’They want to stop from killing you. If so, I must definitely kill you!’
Closing the gap, Ezra is hit with much more lethal light beams that burn his body, but at his level, it only burns the surface skin before healing.
Nevertheless, such constant interruptions frustrated Ezra, causing tily delays and allowing the lizard to widen the distance between them.
Seeing this, Ezra calculates the positioning between him and the lizard before throwing Skyfall at it.
With a massive spin, it catches the lizard as it would and cuts right through it but continues to spin further in the distance.
’Oops’
Before anything else, Ezra reaches the sight of the dead lizard to its body disassembling into essence.
Moreover...
’So that’s what’s happening’
Its grave site lay littered with shards, these ones only half the size of the ones he earned from the beasts back at the fire island.
The beasts here are split between real and fakes, and this proved it.
The fake one can’t shoot light beams and dissolve light dust, the real ones shoot light beams and disassemble into essence, leaving behind rewards.
As he picks up his haul, a familiar sound is heard.
*P-um*
Ezra imdiately jumps out of the way, dodging the attack.
Popping a vein, Ezra is reminded of the constant bombardnt he suffered back at the fire island as well.
"Why do none of you have enough etiquette to let pick my rewards?!"
