Chapter 778: Chapter 148: Revenue Sharing

After the rcenaries finished clearing out these uncontrollable Undead, another half-hour had passed.

Had they forcefully charged through and made a clearance killing, the ti could have been halved again. However, to minimize casualties as much as possible, Eric chose to have the highland Swordsn retreat for repairs and then let the lobster gunners reload, aim, and shoot in turns, exploiting the long-range distance to take down the Undead without sustaining any injuries.

With the remaining threats on the battlefield resolved, the rcenaries began to collect the spoils of war. The Ghoul’s spirituality was concentrated in the pituitary gland inside their rotten skulls, while in the case of Skeleton archers, it was the remnants of the soul fire within their skulls.

Though they wouldn’t fetch much money, it was still enough to give out so extra bonus money to the rcenaries. After all, the Golden Sparrow rcenary Group was a legitimate professional rcenary group, unlike a certain group whose mbers were either rich or noble hobbyist rcenaries who couldn’t even bother to harvest spiritual materials.

Everyone was busily harvesting bodies; even the lobster gunners pulled out the small knives in their boots and went up to choose the Undead that seed to be of better quality. Only Aske waved to dissipate the weapon in his hand and quietly walked to the tree at the hillside, watching everyone else work with boredom.

Normally, everyone would definitely have cursed at this guy’s lazy deanor, flipped him the bird, and unapologetically deducted the bonus he would have received.

However, now, even the dumbest highland Swordsman had co to understand through the whispers among companions.

The reason why the Undead had gone from “pressing them in combat” to “standing and being harvested” was entirely due to this man sniping the Undead Commander from afar.

While everyone still didn’t understand how he had done it, it was enough to clear him of the ill will that had accumulated before.

Therefore, the rcenaries just went about their work silently, handing over the harvested spiritual materials to the two leaders—McGree and Eric.

“Eric,” McGree said inconspicuously, cleaning the bloodstains off his Great Sword with a piece of cloth, and he nodded slightly to urge him to look behind, “That guy…what exactly is his background?”

“Not sure,” Eric shook his head, clearly shocked as well, “From the mission contract and identity proof that the Bull rcenary Group gave him, he seems to be the Squad Leader of so rcenary group.”

“Which rcenary group?” McGree asked in a deep voice, “Steel Cross? Gold Coin? Vikings? It better not be those idiots from Free Wind.”

“It’s not one of the large rcenary groups,” Eric frowned, “It’s a na I haven’t heard before. Sothing like… The Azure Longsword?”

“The Azure Longsword, the Iron Shield, the Golden Axe, they are all too commonplace nas,” McGree scoffed, “Only the small, hobbyist rcenary groups would pick such nas. Any group that even slightly makes a na for itself in the industry would imdiately change it to sothing more impressive and grand.”

“Do you think he looks like he ca from so unknown, small rcenary group?” Eric asked aningfully.

“Doesn’t look like it,” McGree admitted honestly, “I have the impression that he’s more like a backup force cultivated by the headquarters of a large rcenary group, perhaps here in Iberia to add a gold plating to his resu.”

“You think so too?” Eric was sowhat surprised.

The backup force of the Large rcenary Group headquarters, the prerequisite to join was Level 10 and above.

“That is to say, this person must be a Law Level Transcendent. It’s not just our Golden Sparrow rcenary Group’s Southwest Division but even the headquarters in Brittania would treat such a strong figure with great respect.”

Both of them began to silently count their lucky stars. Although this guy had been speaking in a weird and irritating manner that inexplicably provoked anger, everyone had refrained from tearing into him.

Now, it seed like a wise choice indeed.

However, as a Large rcenary Group, they still needed to maintain so dignity. Having previously disregarded him, it wouldn’t be appropriate to suddenly put on a warm smile upon discovering he was a powerful Transcendent… That would be too opportunistic and could only lead to disdain.

Thus, Eric only waited until all the spoils of war had been collected before calling Aske, who was napping under the shade of a tree, over to ask,

“How does taking thirty percent of this haul sound to you?”

Thirty percent was, of course, a very fair number. In the past, many players in the ga world complained that they played a decisive role in battle and should receive all (or at least seventy to eighty percent) of the spoils. As a result, after finishing an instance, they often turned against the Large rcenary Group and wound up being hunted all over the world…

The reason was that Large rcenary Groups were highly professional. The cost of money during a mission flowed like water every minute and second. Even if helped by other powers during a mission, the share of the reward as thanks could not be too generous – giving more would an a loss for themselves.

For example, when The Azure Longsword rcenary Group was established, they once joined forces with Steel Cross and Free Wind, two other Large rcenary Groups, in a pursuit to hunt down a deserter Temple Knight at the border city of the East Solomon Empire.

In the end, the target’s weapon was taken by Aske, leaving only the bounty for the head to be split between the two rcenary groups. After calculating the expenses, the mission turned out to be a disastrous loss, affecting the year-end performance bonuses of both Squad Leaders Andrea and Matthews, with a direct downgrade.

“Oh, okay.” Aske replied nonchalantly.

His easy acceptance surprised both Eric and McGree. The forr had even prepared a more detailed explanation anticipating his refusal, to persuade him why the Golden Sparrow rcenary Group deserved seventy percent.

Thirty percent… that was their maximum offer. Keep in mind that even Eric, the Commander himself, would only receive a 1.2% cut from this mission, after deducting unreimbursed expenses for food, clothing, lodging, and travel!

“That’s great.” Both n smiled, “Normally, these spoils would be sent to our headquarters, and the settlent could take a few months before the money is transferred. However, you are not part of our team. How about we estimate the value of the spoils based on market prices and pay you in advance?”

“Acceptable.” Aske nodded. In his forr ga world experiences, he’d dealt with NPC rcenary groups nurous tis, and such behavior of using one’s own money for an advance often implied a gesture to seek favor.

Not to ntion that these two had been cold-faced until now and had started addressing him with a polite “You,” clearly finally acknowledging his strength…

He wasn’t surprised in the least.

The amount of money wasn’t important; what mattered was that, through the taunts and exercises of this period, Aske felt his understanding of the Law deepen significantly.

Lv.19 wasn’t far off.
