Chapter 584: Chapter 94: The Great Fire of Nero

“Your Majesty’s intent.”

No matter what excuse Bishop Chino ca up with, Bishop Valian would simply respond with, “It is His Majesty’s intent.”

Soon, Bishop Chino was defeated by this relentless echo, and could only begrudgingly say,

“I have ti at 3 PM this afternoon, bring them here.”

“Yes,” Bishop Valian nodded, then suddenly remarked, “Regarding Bishop Landeng’s issue, it is unfortunate that none of us anticipated it.”

“What, did His Majesty send you to test ?” Bishop Chino asked with a pained expression and a hint of sarcasm.

“No, it was my own intention,” Valian replied. “Given the anger you’re showing now, you clearly knew nothing of Bishop Landeng’s plans beforehand.”

“So what?” Bishop Chino sneered, “He doesn’t trust because if I had been involved, I would never have agreed to such an excessively radical plan as the Spiritual Tree.”

“Yet, compared to the laughable purification goals of human Purebloodists, I am even more pessimistic about your path of Revisonism. Transcendents are rely Transcendents, at best turning into ignorant administrative bureaucrats who could never understand the commitnt our scientific endeavors require, let alone lead us forward.”

“I will be the next Pope, not Nora,” Valian said earnestly, “The scenario you described of ‘the layman guiding the expert’ will not happen.”

“Co off it, His Majesty has already decreed her canonization,” Bishop Chino scoffed repeatedly, “Unless you manage to stay forever on the sa page, once opinions diverge, whom will the Cardinals listen to? The Pope or the Earth Angel? You are planting seeds of division within the Church Court!”

“All you have are speculations and doubts,” Valian dismissed, “Don’t forget, Nora is my own sister.”

“I hope in the future, when facing a living Holy Daughter, you can command her as you do your sister, Valian,” Bishop Chino gestured with his hand, indicating the conversation was over.

————————————————

That afternoon, Bishop Valian arrived again with several mbers of The Azure Longsword.

Nora, Thira, Mia, and Squad Leader Aske.

Bishop Chino watched expressionlessly as the three young girls in need of Sensing Law were presented before him.

They were too young!

Even Nora, Valian’s own sister and the eldest of the trio, appeared to be barely in her early twenties. Thira probably wasn’t even an adult, and as for Mia… a girl of her age should be staying at ho studying, not gallivanting around the world playing rcenary!

Despite having prior knowledge about these individuals, seeing them in person conveyed a reality that data on paper never could. In that mont, Bishop Chino even began to doubt Raphael’s judgnt.

Could there be a glitch that had listed these young, delicate girls as R4? Considering that even Bishop Landeng could easily manipulate Raphael’s data, Bishop Chino grew skeptical of the authenticity of this R4 rating.

Could it have been the Holy Throne personally ddling? Perhaps he deliberately stuffed a bunch of people into the R4 tier to muddy the waters, all to smooth the path for Valian’s sister.

Even lately, there had been strange rumors among the bishops, alleging that the Holy Throne’s actions were not a betrayal of the Technology Camp for Transcendentism, but a venture into a new technological alignnt unique to the Church Court…

It sounded just like Olympia City’s theory: “The existence of Extraordinary Power is a normal physical phenonon,” “Prevent the stigmatization of Extraordinary Power,” “Make Extraordinary Power variable, usable, controlled”—on and on.

“Co in,” Bishop Chino gathered his scattered thoughts and spoke indifferently.

As he turned away, he suddenly rembered the girl called “Thira,” who according to the information was the previous Empress of the East Solomon Empire, Theodora, and also the granddaughter of Olympia City’s City Lord, Apilius.

Could the Holy Throne and Olympia City truly be connected!

The thought arose in his mind and lingered for a long ti.

Upon reaching the data monitoring room, Bishop Chino turned around and asked:

“One at a ti, who’s first?”

“I’ll go,” Thira said.

“Hmm. Lie down in the data connection pod,” Bishop Chino nodded.

Thira lay down in the pod while Valian squatted beside it, explaining what was about to happen:

“The data connection pod will use holographic technology to transport you into a virtual world.”

“This world is ticulously designed by Raphael to guide you in comprehending the designated Laws of Sensing.”

“To ensure imrsion, in the virtual world, your digital body will be identical to your physical one in reality, including the seamless use of your extraordinary abilities.”

“The disasters and enemies designed by the virtual program may well exceed your coping abilities. We have an ergency safety protocol designed to stop the program before you are killed if you face an irresistible attack.”

“However, this is not infallible. If you are killed in the virtual world, it will damage your self-recognition. So subjects have experienced phantom limb pain, auditory and visual hallucinations upon returning to the real world, so even in the virtual world, you must strive to survive and not give up your life easily, understand?”

“I understand,” Thira said.

anwhile, Bishop Chino had arrived at the surveillance compartnt, where several priests were finalizing the online program.

“What script did Raphael choose?” asked Bishop Chino.

“The Law Miss Thira chose is ‘Heavenly Disaster,'” the priest replied. “Raphael selected the script of the ‘Great Fire of Solomon City’ during the early Fourth Epoch, the reign of Nero.”

“Heavenly Disaster?” Bishop Chino inquired, puzzled. “What Law is that?”

“Miss Thira referred to it as καταστροφή in Sirius, aning ‘disaster’, ‘calamity,'” the priest answered. “The closest Law we found in Raphael’s archive is ‘exitium’, which ans ‘destruction’ in Latin.”

“Of course, using language to define Laws inevitably involves so loss of accuracy, so Raphael used a script close to exitium, naly incendium from the Fourth Epoch, covering a massive fire that occurred in Solomon City.”

“It is said that the fire started near the arena and, fueled by the dry autumn winds, spread rapidly, lasting seven days and nights. Out of 14 quarters of the city, three were completely destroyed and seven severely damaged, with two-thirds of the city affected.”

“I am aware of this historical event,” Bishop Chino nodded. “It is said that Nero, the reigning Emperor at the ti, secretly prohibited the city’s fire brigade from rescuing the affected districts. Instead, he ordered them to set up isolation zones to protect the quarters where the nobles and senators resided.”

“That’s correct,” the priest replied. “Historical records state this, but there are nurous conspiracy theories as well. So say that the Magic Tide had been at its peak for nearly a century and was showing signs of receding.”

“Once the Magic Tide began to recede, no transcendent would have been able to advance further. Emperor Nero, already an Lv.10 Arcane Mage with Bloodline and sensing the Ritual of ‘exitium’, that is, the Law of ‘Destruction’.”

“He was eager to complete the ritual task to promote before the Magic Tide receded and extend his life. The fire that covered Solomon City was actually a part of his ritual task.”

“Is this a conclusion drawn by Raphael?” Bishop Chino asked.

“No, Raphael has no record of this; it’s a conjecture by later historians,” the priest chuckled. “However, since Raphael’s database can be modified by external sources, we cannot completely rule out its possibility.”

“Hmm,” Bishop Chino nodded then asked, “What’s the difficulty level of the script?”

“Considering the script’s high inherent difficulty, we have appropriately lowered other unstable factors to prioritize the experinter’s cognitive safety,” the priest replied.

“No,” Bishop Chino hesitated for a mont, then spoke firmly, “Set the difficulty to the maximum.”

“Maximum?” the priest exclaid. “But…”

“Miss Thira is brought by Valian Bishop and is an R4; her strength speaks for itself,” Bishop Chino stated seriously. “The more challenging the script environnt, the more it can push her to the brink of life and death, thus aiding her in sensing the Law.”

“This…” the priest hesitated for a mont, “All right.”
