Chapter 26

Guards I’d never seen since coming here bursted through the gates and into the place. The all wore black coats, and they carried this sense of authority that guards weren’t supposed to have.

The surrounded the crowd of intruders, taking everyone by surprise. The people tensed as the watched the guards bring out guns, pointing it at them like they’ll shoot at any mont.

Then, Logan spoke. "Unless you all have co here to join your children in the underworld, then kindly exit this building." His tone was cold and held no sense of pity.

"Is this a threat?"

"Killing our kids isn’t enough, and now you want to kill us too?"

"You’re all heartless garbages. You’ll pay for this!"

The crowd were enraged, but they didn’t have the guts to do anything. No one wanted to die. The soon began backing away, pain and sorrow evident in their expression.

Everyone backed away except Dante’s brother, who stood fixed up his spot, glaring at all the students like he was trying to read their expressions and tell who killed his brother.

"You think those pathetic guns can harm ? Think again." He growled, his gaze now fixed on Logan.

Logan smirked at Dante’s brother’s remark, unfazed by the threat.

"I know they won’t," he said calmly, tilting his head slightly. "That’s why I prepared sothing better for you."

The ground shifted. From all sides, vines shot out with vicious speed, wrapping tightly around him before he could react. They coiled around his arms, chest, and legs, squeezing until his body groaned under the pressure. His eyes widened, he hadn’t seen it coming. Even I hadn’t sensed them. Whoever was the person responsible for that attack was definitely an extrely high rank.

"Nice try," he snarled, forcing his muscles outward. With one brutal forceful expansion, his aura flared and the vines snapped apart, shredded into pieces that scattered across the floor.

But then the real trap revealed itself.

The broken vines twitched on the ground, glowing faintly with a sickly green energy. Like snakes, they slithered back toward him, latching onto his skin like leeches. His smirk faltered as the vines pulsed, sucking away his energy in rapid surges.

"What the—" His voice strained, eyes going wide as his strength began draining out of him. His knees bent slightly, his jaw clenched hard.

Logan’s expression didn’t change. "I won’t kill you here today," he said flatly, stepping closer. "But take this as your last warning. Never barge in here like you own this place."

He flicked his gaze toward the guards, and then he gestured to them. "Toss him out."

Without hesitation, they moved in, gripping the weakened man by the arms. He fought, growling, but the draining vines had already done their job. His resistance was sloppy, his aura flickering. With a rough shove, they dragged him toward the shattered gates.

Logan turned away nonchalantly, walking back into the building as if nothing had happened. His coat swung behind him, his presence radiating authority that silenced the field.

The students stood frozen, wide-eyed, not daring to breathe too loud.

Since coming here, there was sothing i noticed. Logan carried himself differently. Cold, heartless maybe, but smart. He knew exactly how to keep order and make sure no one forgot who was in control.

A smirk tugged at my lips. I liked him already.

With the intruders gone, the tension eased. Students slowly began to scatter, heading back toward their dorms, each one whispering about what they just witnessed. The exam wasn’t even done yet, and already Voldrak was turning into a battlefield.

---

Two hours later...

The survivors and winners of the first exam stood gathered in the field once again. The air was tensed as everyone tried to anticipate what the next stage would be. But they all knew the next stage wouldn’t be easier.

Logan stepped forward, his gaze sweeping across us. Behind him, the managent staff lined up, watching us.

He didn’t waste ti and got straight to the point. "The next phase of the exam is simple," he said. "You will be divided into two groups. One group will each receive a scroll. The other group will receive nothing."

Murmurs from students instantly broke out.

"The rules," he continued, ignoring the noise, "are simple. Protect your scroll from the other group. They’ll fight to take it from you, because by the end of five hours, the only ones who pass will be those holding a scroll."

"Five hours? That’s too small!" soone shouted.

"That ans half of us will fail!" another yelled.

"Is killing allowed this ti?" soone from the back asked.

Logan’s eyes flicked toward the voice, his expression cold like always. "Not this ti. This test is about combat ability. No magic use is allowed either."

"What? Then how are we supposed to fight?"

The student’s protest were endless.

"Didn’t you just hear what he said?" Veyra barked to the students. "It’s a test of your combat abilities. If you can’t even fight to protect or retrieve a scroll, then of what use are you in Voldrak."

Her remark silenced the students.

Soone raised their hand, gesturing that they wanted to ask a question. "Will the people who fail this round be killed? Just like the first round?"

The questions made everyone tensed as they all waited for an answer. The field fell completely silent, crackling with tension. And then, Logan spoke.

"No."

Everyone imdiately heaved a sigh of relief, even I was surprised. Was this the plan from the beginning, or sothing made them change the rules?

"Are we to pick a partner this ti?" Lilian asked, her tone soft but carrying an edge.

"No partners this ti. You’re all on your own. Who knows, you might end up fighting soone you tead up with in the first round."

Lilian turned to , her eyes trembling as her fingers fidgeted by her sides. I knew that look, the sa one she gave when she first begged to save her from Dante.

But I just smirked, turning away. You’re on your own this ti, young lady.
