"I had no choice," Dante responded, breaking Eva’s heart.

Eva was frozen in her chair, several questions flooding her head. Tears threatened to fall out of her eyes but she sniffled them back in, although it hurt her.

It hurt to hear Dante’s voice over the phone, admitting to having Jas killed.

It hurt to think that the person she thought would be her safe place would actually be the one to betray her like this.

He was working for his father.

Mr. De Rossi humd at Dante’s remark and hung up on the phone, his gaze shifting to Eva who hadn’t said a word yet. He loved the expression on her face.

"You thought Dante had been by your side the entire ti, didn’t you?" He asked, his grin stretching even more on her lips. "You see, Eva, the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree. He found out I was the one who killed your parents but didn’t say anything."

He sized her up like she was a pathetic person, snorting in disgust.

"Why did you do it?" She suddenly asked, glaring at him.

Her chest might hurt from the betrayal, but she believed she was going to get over that, if she survived whatever Mr. De Rossi planned for her.

"What?" He asked, confusion written all over his face.

"Why did you kill my parents? They didn’t do anything to you."

He scoffed, as if tired of hearing that question over and over again.

"Your father knew too much. I offered him ten million dollars to kill Greg but he never took up the offer," he explained.

Eva was stunned for a mont. She knew about her father rejecting the offer years ago when she’d started investigating his death, but she didn’t think that Mr. De Rossi who offered such a huge amount to him.

"You see, I have a very long way to go in politics, and I’ve made sure to get rid of everyone who tries to stop . After you, Jai is next, and then followed by every other person who tries to stop ." Then he laughed like a maniac, the sound vibrating in the four corners of the space, irritating Eva’s ears.

Her hands clenched behind her back, rage filling her heart. Her father had died for nothing.

Even after rejecting that huge sum of money that could change their entire lives forever, he still died. The politician he was saving didn’t even bother to care about his children or whether any of his family had been alive.

Peter Gonzales had died for nothing, all in the na of kindness.

"What? Don’t tell you’re angry," said Mr. De Rossi.

He laughed, then instructed his n to bring her.

She didn’t know where they were supposed to bring her but she had no choice but to stay still and watch her environnt.

Unfortunately for her, they blindfolded her, keeping their surroundings a secret.

Eva could tell they were in a car as they drove to an unknown location.

While the drive was silent, Eva’s head was screaming with pain and questions.

Questions like—does Dante know his father was about to kill her? Even if he knew, was he going to help her? Did he ever love her? Was it all so facade just to make her love him, only for him to hurt her in the end? Was this the end?

She’d thought that Dante would be different from his father, but she’d been wrong. Mr. De Rossi was right. The apple doesn’t fall far from the tree and that was her lesson.

Eva sniffled in her tears that threatened to fall only to be sucked into the fabric of her blindfold.

She’d been betrayed before. By Katherine and by Nathan, and she’d co out stronger than ever.

Suddenly, the car ca to a stop.

Eva’s weak body was dragged out like a rag doll. She eventually lost her bearings since she couldn’t see and fell to the ground with a hiss.

The leaves crushed under her weight, helping her realize they were in a forest or a bush.

The blindfold was aggressively pulled out of her face, their nails digging into her temple for a split second.

She glanced around, confirming her location.

They were in the forest.

She’d counted the minutes they’d used to drive. Approximately forty minutes. Glancing around, she couldn’t see anything but more trees, only making her wonder where exactly she was.

Mr. De Rossi stepped out of his car, his evil eyes falling on her for a second before he instructed the n to get the equipnt.

Her heart jumped.

’What equipnt?’ She wondered.

She tried to twist her wrist free from the rope, but they were just too tight. Even if she could, she was unsure she could fight everyone present since they were all carrying a gun.

It turned out a van had been following them the entire ti as well. The n reached into the van and brought out a barrel. With how easily one person could lift it, it showed the barrel was empty. Sacks of what seed to be cent were brought as well, making her eyebrows arch up in confusion.

"Bring them all over here," Mr. De Rossi ordered and his n did as they were told.

They were about five bags of cent, a human-sized barrel, and a shovel sitting in front of him like a gift bestowed upon a king.

The items didn’t help to ease Eva’s mind at all. Then her eyebrows furrowed deeply, her gaze landing on Mr. De Rossi and it turned out the man was already staring at her.

"You finally get it, don’t you?" He asked, his lips stretching into an ugly grin. "This is actually one of my favorite thods of getting rid of people. Because no matter what happens, they can never co back."

Eva was speechless. Marcus was planning on burying her alive in a barrel filled with cent and throwing it into a grave.
