The grand doors of a clubroom opened, and Alex stepped inside, instantly commanding attention. The soft glow of chandeliers caught the tailored lines of his dark coats, and the confident ease of his stride turned heads as he entered. Conversations faltered, then swelled into murmurs as people recognized him.

The ladies were the first to react, their gazes lingering, their whispers barely concealed. One stepped forward with a radiant smile. "Alex! I didn’t think you’d make it."

He returned her greeting with a polite nod, his lips curling into a faint, disarming smile. Another woman hurried over, brushing imaginary dust off his shoulder. She said, "You look incredible tonight, as always."

The crowd around him thickened, laughter and complints mixing in the air. Alex, ever charming, exchanged light banter but never let his focus linger too long on anyone. A few offered him drinks, others bolder invitations to dance, but he gently sidestepped them all, offering only his warm charisma in return.

Lifting a glass given to him by one of his admirers as the DJ turned down the music, he offered a casual toast that montarily hushed the room. "Here’s to a wonderful evening," he said, his voice smooth and effortlessly captivating. "And to make it unforgettable."

As the cheers echoed through the room, Alex seized the mont to navigate through the crowd, moving toward the far end where he spotted his friend Scoot. In a quieter corner, Scoot was lounging on a sofa with his arm casually draped around his girlfriend, a petite brunette laughing at sothing he had just said. A group of mutual friends surrounded them, and among them was a girl who imdiately caught Alex’s attention.

She stood slightly apart, holding a flute of champagne in her hand. Her blue hair cascaded in soft waves down her shoulders. Her piercing blue eyes scanned the room, calm and observant, yet an undeniable spark in them seed to pierce through the crowd. Her figure was striking—elegant yet natural—with a fitted black dress that hugged her in all the right places, exuding effortless confidence without a hint of pretense.

Alex felt his breath catch—a reaction he wasn’t accustod to and hadn’t entirely anticipated. She was the kind of beauty that drew attention effortlessly, but it wasn’t just her looks that captivated him. There was a quiet grace in which she carried herself, poised yet unguarded, as if she belonged in the room while simultaneously rising above its chaos.

Scoot caught sight of Alex and waved him over with a grin. "Took you long enough, man! We were starting to think you’d found a better party."

Alex chuckled and joined the group, his eyes flickering briefly—inevitably—back to her. She turned to him then, her gaze eting his, and for a mont, the sounds faded into the background. She smiled, a small, knowing smile that sent a jolt through him.

"Alex," Scoot said, oblivious to the mont. "You know everyone here, right?"Not quite everyone," Alex replied, his voice steady, but his attention was locked on her.

Scoot grinned, gesturing toward her. "Well, this is Lauren."

Lauren extended her hand, her blue eyes alight with curiosity. "I’ve heard a lot about you," she said, her voice smooth and lodic.

"Only the good parts, I hope," Alex replied, shaking her hand, his usual confidence slipping, as he looked at the only girl who has ever been able to make his heart skip a beat, even though he hasn’t accepted that fact.

....

A few hours before the party.

Lauren wasn’t the type to enjoy parties. The noise, chaos, and endless parade of shallow conversations felt far removed from what she truly valued. Yet here she was, adjusting the strap of her black dress in the mirror and questioning why she had allowed her friends to talk her into coming.

"Co on, Lauren," Sarah insisted, practically bouncing with delight. "You need a night out. It will be fun!"

"Fun," Lauren had replied dryly, "is subjective."

Emily had rolled her eyes, but then she added the bait that made Lauren pause. "Alex’s going to be there. You’ve always been curious about him, right?"

Curious. That was an understatent. Alex wasn’t just another face in the crowd he wasn’t; he was a prince, after all; sothing about him caught her attention, sothing different. He was confident—perhaps too confident—but he carried it well. He exuded confidence, clearly aware of who he was. What intrigued her wasn’t his charm or the attention he received, but the monts he spent out of the spotlight. His unusual habit of dating various won without physical closeness seed odd for soone with his Playboy reputation.

Lauren didn’t feel drawn to him, not in the way her friends giggled about. It wasn’t an attraction, exactly. It was...interesting. He was an enigma, and she wanted to understand what made him tick.

She sighed, glancing at her reflection one last ti. Her golden-blond hair frad her angular face and piercing blue eyes. Strikingly beautiful, Lauren was used to the weight of her lineage overshadowing her individuality. As the daughter of the Council President, her life was marked by expectations and scrutiny, with every step and word under evaluation.

What made her unique was not just her na but her extraordinary talent. Lauren had mastered how to use the ice and fire elents—a rare and powerful combination—without the assistance of any divine bloodline. Her skill was due to relentless practice, natural aptitude, and sheer determination. Most people considered her a prodigy even more than the royalties, though she often wondered whether they admired her talent or simply the novelty of it.

"Fine," she’d said, eventually, giving in more to her curiosity than her friends’ insistence. "I’ll go. But only because you won’t leave alone."

Now, standing in the ballroom with a flute of champagne in hand, she felt both out of place and oddly at ease. Her friends had drifted off into the crowd, chatting and laughing, but she stayed back, observing. It was always her instinct—to watch, to analyze.

When the grand doors opened and Alex walked in, the atmosphere in the room shifted noticeably. He greeted people as he moved, exuding a casual yet magnetic charisma, with his easy smile brightening the space. Lauren tilted slightly, observing him as he navigated through the crowd. His movents held a sense of purpose and a subtle grace that felt more instinctive than rehearsed.

This was why she’d co. Not because of so silly crush her friends teased her about, but because Alex was a puzzle. One she intended to figure out.

....

Lauren was unsure how she found herself in such a long conversation with Alex, but it had begun innocently enough. She had observed him from a distance, noticing how effortlessly he navigated through the crowd until he finally approached her.

Alex extended his hand, smiling confidently. "It’s great to see you again."

Lauren extended her hand for a handshake which took. His grip was warm and firm, and though his deanor was casual, there was sothing deliberate about how he held her gaze. "Again?" she asked, raising an eyebrow.

He chuckled softly, leaning just slightly closer. "You’re not as invisible as you think. I’ve heard plenty about the council president’s daughter."

"Careful, Alex," Mia, Josh’s girlfriend, teased as she joined them. "Lauren has a habit of dissecting people with her questions. You might want to tread lightly."

Alex glanced at Lauren, his grin widening. "I think I can handle it."

"Famous last words," Scoot chid in from nearby, a sly smirk on his face.

Lauren crossed her arms, tilting her head slightly as she studied Alex. "I doubt it’ll be that hard," she said, her tone dry but carrying a spark of curiosity. "People talk enough about you to fill in the gaps."

"Ah," Alex said, leaning casually against the table behind him. "Let guess. You’re here to see if the rumors are true?"

Scott, never missing an opportunity, interjected. "You an the untouchable playboy thing? Oh, it’s true. Alex’s the guy everyone wants, but sohow, no one can pin him down."

"Scott," Mia groaned, nudging him. "Let him breathe."

Alex laughed softly, shaking his head. "It’s fine. I’m used to it." He turned his attention back to Lauren. "Is that why you’re here? Researching like so kind of project?"

Lauren didn’t flinch under his gaze. "I wouldn’t call it research," she said. "I’m just curious. You have a reputation but don’t act like soone who fits it."

"Careful, Lauren," Sarah, one of her friends, said with a grin as she approached. "You’re playing right into his hands."

"Or he’s playing into mine," Lauren replied smoothly, her eyes still locked on Alex’s.

Alex’s smile softened, and for a mont, there was a flicker of sothing more sincere beneath his usual charm. "That’s an interesting way to look at it," he said. "But people love stories. Sotis, they’re more interested in the ones they make up than the truth."

"So what’s the truth?" Lauren asked, her voice low but pointed.

Alex didn’t respond imdiately; his gaze wandered as if contemplating whether to reply. Before he could say anything, Emily—one of Lauren’s friends—showed up, wearing a mischievous grin. "He’s probably just going to say sothing cryptic to keep you guessing," she said.

"Am I that predictable?" Alex asked, his smirk returning.

"Yes," Mia, Sarah, and Emily said in unison, drawing laughter from the group.

Lauren, however, wasn’t laughing. "Maybe," she said, her voice steady, "but you don’t strike as soone who’s entirely comfortable with being understood."

Alex raised an eyebrow, surprised. "You think so?"

"I know so," Lauren replied, her tone even. "And I’m not the only one."

Scott, still lounging nearby, shook his head with a dramatic sigh. "Lauren, you’re not going to crack him in one night. Trust , I’ve known him for years. The guy’s an enigma wrapped in charm."

"Sounds exhausting," Lauren said, a faint smile tugging at her lips.

"It can be," Alex admitted with a touch of humor in his voice. "But maybe so puzzles are worth solving."

Their conversation ebbed and flowed, between lighthearted banter and unexpectedly deep discussions. Ethan’s quick wit kept Lauren on her toes, but occasionally she would catch a glimpse of sothing more profound—an edge to his humor, a shadow in his gaze. This only fueled her determination to uncover who he truly was. Mia, Sarah, and Emily occasionally jumped in with comnts, their lively energy contrasting Alex’s calm confidence and Lauren’s quiet intensity. The hours slipped by unnoticed until the explosion shattered the atmosphere.
