Even though Yang Yushi knew Song Xiaodong was going to jump down, her heart couldn't help but tighten. It was the third floor, after all, and it was the third floor of a hotel, which was much higher than a residential building.

Upon landing, Song Xiaodong imdiately rolled, dissipating the force of their fall and conveniently hiding behind a flowerbed.

Yang Yushi didn't feel much impact during the roll, nor did she feel any pressure from Song Xiaodong on her. It seed there was no sensation, yet she had landed stably.

"Impressive!" Yang Yushi gave Song Xiaodong a thumbs up and whispered softly into his ear.

Song Xiaodong didn't speak but carefully observed the surroundings. Facing a group of ard soldiers, even Song Xiaodong couldn't afford any carelessness. His extensive experience on the battlefield told him that any slight oversight could expose himself to the enemy's gunfire.

There weren't many soldiers outside, mainly guarding the two exits of the hotel. There were no soldiers here, so Song Xiaodong easily led Yang Yushi over the hotel wall, disappearing into the night.

"Tat! Tatatat..."

"Boom!"

With the first gunshot, a dense barrage of gunfire ensued, turning the entire city into a battlefield. The city's main departnts were engulfed in the flas of war. The residents spent an extrely tense night, largely unaware of why the nation suddenly lost its peace and why the war had reached their doorsteps.

At this ti, Song Xiaodong and Yang Yushi avoided the gunfire and maneuvered through the alleys, having almost distanced themselves from the important governnt institutions by now.

Sitting inside a bus, Yang Yushi leaned sloppily against Song Xiaodong, her clothes disheveled with nurous stains, utterly lacking her usual charisma.

After walking for several hours, they were exhausted. Staying at a hotel was not realistic, so they pried open the door of a bus and decided to rest inside for a while.

"I'm really tired and sleepy, but I can't fall asleep at all." Yang Yushi said quietly, eyes wide open.

Song Xiaodong, with his eyes closed, replied, "It's your first ti experiencing war, so of course, you'd feel very tense. It's completely normal."

Yang Yushi added, "Maybe, but I'm lucky I ca with you. Even if I brought our Yang family's guards, they wouldn't be as confident as you. They've never experienced real warfare."

"In places like this, the most dangerous thing is having blind confidence. No matter how skilled, they are no match for a bullet. To survive in a place filled with bullets, one must be cautious and vigilant at all tis."

Yang Yushi hugged Song Xiaodong's arm and said, "I'm counting on you, Xiaodong. It's great if you can take

back, but if we encounter sothing really dangerous, I hope you can make the wisest decision, rather than both of us dying."

Song Xiaodong replied, "That's a decision I will make."

Yang Yushi, feeling a bit frustrated, said, "You... I thought you'd say you'd take

back no matter what."

Song Xiaodong sighed lightly, "We haven't truly engaged in war yet. When you really face such a situation, you'll realize no promise is reliable."

Yang Yushi was silent for a while before softly saying, "Sigh, I can't even make a phone call here. We are truly isolated and helpless."

Song Xiaodong smiled and said, "Anyway, we're fine now. Don't forget, we're Chinese citizens. Our country is our support. If we really fell into the hands of either side, they probably wouldn't dare harm us easily."

"I hope so," Yang Yushi smiled, not saying anything more.

"Let's get so sleep. Resting will prepare us for the real journey of escape." With that, Song Xiaodong closed his eyes.

Yang Yushi replied, snuggling closer into Song Xiaodong's arms. Since last night, when they started escaping, this action had beco natural, unlike before when it felt forced.

Song Xiaodong didn't object either. In this special environnt, Yang Yushi had developed a strong dependence on him, and as a strong individual, Song Xiaodong naturally had the responsibility to protect Yang Yushi.

Seeing how Song Xiaodong could sleep so easily, Yang Yushi admired his strong ntality.

She used to think that her experience in financial markets had given her a strong ntal resilience, but compared to Song Xiaodong, she realized her capacity was not enough.

After resting for a while, the number of people on the street increased, most carrying luggage. Evidently, they received news of the war and wanted to escape from the warzone, planning to return once the situation stabilized.

Song Xiaodong opened his eyes; Yang Yushi hadn't slept at all. Seeing him awake, she imdiately asked, "What should we do now?"

Song Xiaodong said, "We'll go by ourselves, not with the crowd."

"Isn't it safer with more people? They won't attack civilians, right?"

"The key is our complexion, which stands out too much."

"Oh... That's true. This country doesn't really cooperate with ours, so there aren't many Asians."

"However, there's not complete chaos yet, so we can use this opportunity to leave first."

"Okay!"

Song Xiaodong took Yang Yushi to a small villa, likely a local wealthy family's ho. The people there seed to have left after getting important information, but two cars were still in the yard.

Song Xiaodong chose the one with more fuel and drove Yang Yushi towards the city outskirts.

The road was filled with vehicles leaving the city, and besides military vehicles, there were few heading into the city.

"Boom!"

A cannon shot resounded, and the car felt a shock. Imdiately followed a barrage of gunfire, occurring just a few dozen ters ahead.

Yang Yushi instinctively scread, her face turning pale instantly.

The cars ahead plunged into chaos, and several crashed together. In the pandemonium, rather than dealing with the accident, everyone just wanted to escape, making the scene even more chaotic as cars quickly blocked the road ahead.

Song Xiaodong considered turning the car around but seeing the sa chaos behind, stopped.

"Get out of the car!" Song Xiaodong jumped out, pulling Yang Yushi along, rushing towards a nearby building.

"Tatata!" A round of intensive gunfire erupted from behind, accompanied by screams.

Yang Yushi looked back, seeing soldiers shooting at civilians, and she watched as a man's head was blown off, causing him to run a few steps before collapsing, blood streaming mixed with brain matter.

Yang Yushi felt a nauseating churn in her stomach and her legs went weak.

"Don't look around," Song Xiaodong picked up Yang Yushi, sprinting into the building.

"They... they're shooting civilians..." Yang Yushi stamred, her face pale.

"That's war for you, especially in civil unrest!" Song Xiaodong said calmly, finding the building's back door.

"This is too brutal! I... I... I feel like throwing up."

Song Xiaodong placed a firm hand on Yang Yushi's stomach, sending a warm sensation that cald her roiling gut.
