The Witch again.
Did that criminal organization really have an agenda? And why Green Pack? What did that pack possess that made it a target?
Questions crowded my mind, but this was not the ti to dwell on them.
I might despise Alpha William, but the warriors and enforcers in the vanguard were innocent. They were my subordinates.
"Oliver, take ten enforcers and protect the logistics team during the march. Half of the alphas will accompany you," I ordered, turning toward Oliver and the group of alphas who were still reeling from the news of Alpha William’s disappearance.
"The rest of you, move with ."
The main reason we couldn’t advance at full speed was the logistics unit. Burdened with supplies, they couldn’t keep up if everyone sprinted at maximum pace.
The group under my command moved at full speed regardless. Gradually, Oliver’s unit fell farther behind.
Despite being loud-mouthed and spoiled in the past, five years had changed Oliver. I trusted him to protect the rear.
Not long after, I spotted bodies sprawled on the ground in the distance.
I accelerated instantly, all four limbs working in perfect coordination until even my own unit lagged behind .
Fifteen warriors and enforcers lay motionless on the earth.
I rushed to one enforcer I recognized as particularly strong and checked his breathing. Normal. There were bruises on his face and hands, but nothing as severe as I’d feared.
When I examined his neck, he suddenly stirred.
"What happened?" I asked sharply.
He looked disoriented at first. Then clarity returned to his eyes.
"One of them used mind shock. The pressure was overwhelming. After incapacitating Alpha Green, they struck the backs of our necks. That’s when I lost consciousness."
The others arrived, and the dical team imdiately began checking the fallen warriors and enforcers.
Apparently, no one was seriously injured. They had only been subdued.
"The True Alpha within The Witch is extrely powerful, Commander," Noah said as he approached .
I already knew that without him saying it. Even Alpha Henry, a True Alpha himself, couldn’t use mind shock on werewolves who hadn’t sworn loyalty to him.
"Larry," I called. "Take several enforcers and track where they went."
Larry nodded, gathered a few n, and departed at once.
I hadn’t chosen him because he was Alpha William’s son, but because Larry possessed an exceptional instinct for direction.
The reason he ranked in the top ten of the overall assessnt was simple. He almost never struggled in unfamiliar terrain and had never once fallen into a trap.
After the warriors and enforcers, though weakened by mind shock, were treated by the dics, Oliver’s logistics team finally arrived.
I summoned him again. "Oliver, take the injured to the nearest pack. So alphas will go with you."
He looked like he was about to complain, but restrained himself and nodded. I could already imagine him cursing under his breath about being left behind yet again.
As Oliver prepared to depart with the injured, a commotion erupted near the dical unit.
Noah, ever perceptive, moved imdiately. From afar, I recognized Rora arguing with a woman.
Suddenly, the woman turned toward and ran straight in my direction.
As she drew closer, my frown deepened. She showed no sign of stopping. Activating my vision ability, I confird she carried nothing dangerous.
Just as she was about to crash into , I stepped aside.
She stumbled and fell hard onto the ground.
Noah and Rora rushed over, both wearing expressions that scread trouble. If soone like her were in my unit, I would have reacted the sa way.
Ignoring her groans, I turned to Rora. "What’s going on?"
Before Rora could answer, the woman whimpered, "Commander Black, I don’t want to go with the team transporting patients. I want to stay with you. If sothing happens to you, only I’m worthy of taking care of you."
Was she insane?
I looked at Rora and Noah, signaling that they needed to handle this imdiately.
They understood at once and pulled the screaming woman to her feet.
"If you keep behaving like this, I’ll personally make sure you’re detained," Rora warned coldly.
The woman finally fell silent, though the sharp glare she shot at Rora was unmistakable. Before being dragged away, she turned back toward , her eyes filled with sothing unsettling.
Longing.
Noah returned to my side. "Commander, that woman is Iris. She’s Enforcer Miltor’s niece. She’s been bragging for a long ti that she would... possess you."
My expression darkened. "Send her back to the capital. This legion has no need for soone like that."
"Yes, Commander," Noah replied without hesitation.
The march resud properly. We continued at a normal pace now that the logistics team had rejoined us.
The alphas began discussing Alpha William’s abduction, speculating about The Witch’s motives.
Surprisingly, soone spoke up. "What if this is just Alpha William’s sche to avoid punishnt from Commander Black? After all, he made a fatal mistake."
Alpha Blooms, Noah, the alphas from the West Region including Alpha Black, and I all knew that was impossible.
Alpha William had no one under him with True Alpha-level power, let alone soone capable of using mind shock on werewolves who hadn’t sworn loyalty.
If he truly planned an escape, his only option would’ve been to hire a criminal organization. And according to Noah, only The Witch had mbers reported to possess such abilities.
But The Witch had no good relations with Alpha Green or his family. In fact, Green Pack was one of their targets.
Despite knowing all this, I roared in fury, "Damn it, Alpha William! How dare he defy my orders! I’ll personally investigate this deception in Green Pack once this mission is over!"
The alphas looked startled by my sudden outburst.
That was exactly what I wanted.
They needed to see enraged, so later I would have another excuse to tear Green Pack apart.
The rest of the journey passed in silence. No further obstacles arose until we finally arrived at Frost Pack.
I hadn’t known that what I was searching for would be there.
A woman in a red dress, cloaked in white, stood treating the corruptus. Her face seed to glow under the sunlight.
Clarissa.
