Lisse stood in front of with an annoyed face. The mont her eyes landed on , it was as if she were looking at a disgusting insect.

"What are you staring at?!" she snapped.

I frowned. After everything, Lisse still couldn’t accept my existence? Why did she hate so much?

Judging from her beautiful green dress, perfectly matching her eyes, she had clearly co looking her absolute best.

I honestly didn’t expect her to be invited, while Fani and Oscar practically scorned by everyone.

But whatever. Maybe she sneaked in quietly or begged her father to bring her along. I would never understand how young ladies like her think.

I chose to ignore her and stepped aside to walk past.

But as I walked by, she grabbed my wrist tightly, stopping .

I had to grit my teeth to keep a pained hiss from escaping.

"What do you want?" I snapped. "Let go of my hand!"

Instead of releasing , Lisse let out a mocking laugh.

"You think after causing trouble for , you can live peacefully as the alpha’s daughter? Keep dreaming!"

She shoved hard, so hard my body staggered and fell onto the cold floor.

"Stop it! Haven’t you had enough?!" I yelled.

"Enough of what?" she laughed coldly.

Her hand reached for a small flower vase displayed nearby.

Splash!

The flowers and the water inside the vase splashed all over my hair, face, and dress before I could shield myself.

"You’re insane, Arlisse!" I shouted.

She lifted her hand again, intending to throw the glass vase at as well.

I shot up quickly to dodge.

Crash!

The vase shattered exactly where I had fallen earlier.

My chest heaved. My breathing grew heavy. I stepped toward her...

Smack!

I slapped her arrogant face hard. A bright red imprint blood on her pale cheek.

Honestly, even one slap felt like it wasn’t enough.

She stared at , shocked. I saw pure fury flare in her eyes.

She raised her hand to slap back, but I dodged. Only for the slippery floor to make fall backward.

She stood over with her hands on her hips, looking down as if I were so worthless creature.

"Don’t think we’re equals just because we both carry the na ’Green.’"

Oh, how desperately I wanted to scream in her face that we were not equals.

I was the alpha’s daughter, and she was the beta’s daughter.

I truly had no idea where her confidence ca from. Was she not afraid of the alpha family at all?

"Stop looking at like that before I poke your eyes out!" she barked.

Apparently, I’d been giving her a condescending look without realizing it.

"You’re really going to get in trouble after this!" I hissed.

"I’m in trouble? You want to go complain to Brother Darren? Go ahead!" she said arrogantly, without a shred of fear.

"Let tell you sothing, Clarissa. You’re just an adopted daughter. If you dare act out, you’ll be thrown right back to that filthy place you ca from!"

Her words were beyond cruel. My anger shot all the way to the top of my skull.

I tried to stand, but she shoved my shoulder, forcing back to the floor.

"Down there is where you belong!"

My fists clenched tightly. I refused to be humiliated again and again.

Before I could try to stand up again, footsteps echoed from the hall. Lisse noticed them too.

She glared at sharply. "Don’t show up in front of again!"

Then she strutted away, the clicking of her high heels echoing in the silence she left behind.

I quickly pushed myself up and hurried to the restroom. I must have looked like a complete ss, right now. I needed to fix myself imdiately.

Inside, I could only sigh at the sight of my reflection.

My light-brown dress had obvious wet patches. My hair was plastered flat. And worst of all, the makeup covering my scars had lted.

That was when I rembered: my pouch was with Larry. I had left it with him earlier.

All my makeup and my new com-orb were inside.

How was I supposed to go out like this?

I scanned the room and used whatever I had for now. I wiped and tidied my hair and dress with the tissues available.

After several attempts, I at least looked sowhat presentable again.

The only thing left was the wound on my face, clearly visible now.

"I can’t hide in here forever. They might not even notice I’m gone until the party ends..."

I tapped my fingers, trying to think.

"All right... I’ll cover my face and go find Larry to get my pouch," I decided.

I slipped out of the restroom like an actual thief. I was tiptoeing, scanning my surroundings, face half-covered.

On the way back to the hall, I passed a few people, but thankfully none seed to care about my suspicious behavior.

I finally reached the hall. I took a deep breath and walked along the edges.

I didn’t know what was happening, but everyone’s attention was fixed on the stage, so I could slip behind them unnoticed.

"On this wonderful occasion, I would like to introduce soone important..." Adrian’s voice echoed from the front.

Sounded like the event had already started. Adrian as the star of the night, stood on the stage.

I didn’t care. I needed to get to Larry.

Up ahead, Larry was still sitting on the sa sofa as before. Edwin stood beside him, arms crossed. Both of them were focused on the stage.

Just a few more steps...

Suddenly, everything around grew brighter.

I was standing under a spotlight!

I had no idea what was happening, but my priority now was covering my face. I pressed my hand tighter against it.

Adrian’s voice, loud enough even without a mic orb, reached my ears clearly:

"...and that person is the sister of my fated mate, who is also my future sister-in-law, Clarissa Green."

Every muscle in my body froze. Panic shot through .

Why did he have to introduce on his birthday?! Doing this wasn’t going to earn him any brownie points from !

"So that’s the new daughter of Alpha Green?"

"She must have so incredible achievents for the alpha family to adopt her, right?"

"But why is she covering her face?"

"Is she shy because she’s not used to being in the spotlight among elites?"

I was officially in trouble.
