Chapter 32: rejected Samuel

Adriana left Valerie’s room, headed to the living room, and saw Samuel sitting quietly, while Hannah on another couch held the first aid kit, realizing she hadn’t treated Samuel’s injuries.

"Hannah, why didn’t you treat him imdiately?" she asked.

"Um..." Hannah swallowed, glancing at Samuel, who turned to Adriana.

"I’m fine, it’s just a bruise," Samuel said.

"Oh, maybe you prefer Valerie to treat you," Adriana replied with a little smile.

Samuel smiled shyly. Hannah frowned, seemingly displeased with Samuel’s response.

"Maybe Valerie is taking a shower; you should go ho if you can’t wait. Dating a mum requires extra patience," Adriana suggested, subtly urging Samuel to stop waiting for Valerie.

Samuel nodded. "It’s fine... I’ll wait."

"Okay... I have to go."

Adriana left the living room while Samuel imdiately looked at Hannah.

"You should help Valerie take care of Daniel. That’s your job!" he said curtly.

"But you need treatnt," Hannah replied.

"I don’t need it; I just want Valerie!"

"Alright..."

Hannah placed the first aid kit on the table and left the living room with a sad expression, passing Valerie entering the room. She walked away as if unwilling to hear her employer asking her to do sothing. Hmm, maybe she’s jealous?

Valerie let Hannah into the kitchen, while she approached Samuel, who smiled as she approached. Suddenly, she beca awkward and nervous, unable to express that their relationship should end, even though it had just begun.

’What should I say? He’ll be disappointed, and he looks in pain.’

"Valerie," Samuel greeted, shifting his position, indicating for her to sit beside him.

Valerie sat down, turning her face as if avoiding eye contact with Samuel. Finally, she noticed the first aid kit on the table and picked it up.

"Why didn’t you let Hannah take care of you?" she asked.

"Because I want you to do it," Samuel replied.

Valerie chuckled, turning to Samuel. "What’s the difference, whether it’s

or Hannah treating you, the result is you’ll heal. You don’t have to wait for ," she said.

"It’s different... I’ll consider Hannah just a regular nurse, while you are a special one. You not only treat my face but also make

better with love."

Valerie smiled thinly, turning her face and shaking her head slightly. "You’re just boasting..." She tucked a strand of hair behind her ear.

"I’m saying the truth..."

"Um, okay..." Valerie looked back at Samuel. "Do you want sothing to drink, or are you hungry? I can make..."

"I don’t want anything..." Samuel shook his head, then reached for Valerie’s right hand. "I just want you here... At least until you have to go back to nursing Daniel." He smiled, his eyes expressing hope.

Valerie felt uneasy but didn’t want to disappoint Samuel right away.

"Valerie, I’ve been waiting for monts like this... for a long ti. If I could turn back ti, I would have told you about my feelings before you t Damian again," Samuel confessed.

"Why?" Valerie whispered.

"Because now it’s hard for you to accept . Maybe you still have feelings for Damian, or those feelings have grown again after you t him. I don’t want to be too confident, but I think if I had expressed my feelings earlier, maybe you could have learned to love

at that ti." He sighed, his face showing concern. "I’m so stupid..."

Valerie remained silent, observing Samuel, but in her heart, she thought, ’You say this because you don’t care about Damian’s feelings as your friend. Adriana is right; you’ve beco a traitor... You only care about yourself and . You didn’t help

get back on the right path for my family. You were eager to help

hide, pretending to support , but not preventing

at all. You kept leading

down the wrong path...’

"Why are you silent, darling?" Samuel asked, lifting Valerie’s hand and kissing the back of it. "You know, I might enjoy holding your soft hand..."

Valerie remained silent, furrowing her brow, seemingly lost in thought.

Samuel slowly moved his head closer to Valerie’s and held her arms, making them face each other, slowly bringing their lips together.

’He’s bad, and he’s not worthy of you. He’ll only keep getting you into trouble, and he’ll make you always deal with Damian, or you might even lose Daniel because Damian won’t let him be his stepfather. He will take Daniel away from you!’ The whisper sounded clear in her ears; instantly, her eyes widened, pushing Samuel away from her face.

"No!"

Valerie frowned, gasping as she stared at the surprised Samuel.

"What’s wrong?" Samuel asked.

Valerie shook her head.

"Aren’t we supposed to learn to love each other? Didn’t you agree to that? Then why..."

"Samuel, I can’t!" Valerie interrupted him.

Samuel widened his eyes. "What do you an?"

Valerie lowered her gaze, looking at the ring on her finger.

"What do you an by ’can’t’? Can’t you start being affectionate with ? Do you think it’s too fast?" Samuel guessed.

Valerie took a deep breath, mustering the courage to look at Samuel, suddenly rembering his kindness but also recalling Adriana’s words and her inner thoughts.

"What?" Samuel asked.

"I know your intentions are good, but I... I don’t want to add problems," Valerie replied, taking off the ring and handing it to Samuel. "I don’t an to play with you by accepting our relationship this afternoon and then wanting to end it tonight..."

Samuel fell silent, staring at the ring.

"I changed my mind... I don’t want you always to be a victim of Damian’s attacks just because you want to be with ... And I don’t want him to take Daniel away from ... Because accepting you will only make him more determined to take Daniel from ..."

"You don’t have to be afraid," Samuel said, looking at Valerie with hopeful eyes. "I won’t always fight with him; eventually, he will understand that you don’t want him anymore, and you’ve accepted . As for Daniel, I will try to defend him for you... He will always be with you, even if Damian doesn’t like

being with you."

Valerie bit her lower lip, watching Samuel convincingly and showing hope.

"We shouldn’t lose just because we’re afraid," Samuel said.

Valerie nodded. "What you say is true, but the problem is, I don’t love you... I don’t want anything... I just need to focus on myself and Daniel."
