Chapter 162: accused Karina and the nurse

Damian was wide-eyed as he watched the doctor trying to save Fanny using a defibrillator, while Valerie was also in a panic, imdiately embracing his arm.

"Oh God..."

"What happened to her?"

"One two three, go!"

"One two three...!"

With the help of a nurse, the doctor continued to defibrillate Fanny’s heart until she finally started breathing again. They sighed in relief and quickly moved on to the next steps to ensure she was truly calm again.

’Her condition weakened... And earlier, Tristan, Karina, and I t in the elevator. Could Karina be behind all of this?’ Damian wondered the sight he just witnessed adding to his conviction that Karina was suspicious.

"Doc..."

Valerie imdiately greeted the doctor as he was about to leave the room.

"Her heart stopped montarily but now it’s back to normal, but unfortunately, she hasn’t co out of the coma yet," explained the doctor, a man with black-frad glasses.

"What caused her heart to stop? Can you predict if there was foul play involved or if it was her weakened condition?" Damian wondered.

"I don’t know because there was no one watching over her," the doctor replied with a concerned look. "I thought the guard you provided would always be here so I didn’t arrange for a nurse to be with her at all tis... It would be very fatal if she were left alone," he continued with a sowhat annoyed look.

"But they said they asked for a nurse to watch over her," Damian retorted bluntly. "I know the guard I provided might have been negligent because they left Fanny, but before that, they already asked for a nurse to watch over her!" He added, occasionally glancing at the nurse who imdiately looked down.

The doctor imdiately glanced at the nurse.

"I only left her for 2 minutes to go to the bathroom," the nurse explained.

The doctor imdiately tightened his jaw, seemingly angry as he approached the nurse.

"Then why did you say you just happened to pass by and saw her condition, not because you were watching over her and left her briefly?" he asked in a hushed voice, not wanting Damian to hear, as if he didn’t want the hospital’s reputation to be tarnished. "You know what you did could tarnish the reputation of this hospital!"

"Sorry..." The nurse continued to look down, afraid to et the doctor’s gaze.

Damian frowned, feeling more and more suspicious here, so he imdiately approached the doctor.

"I want you to assign a trustworthy nurse to be here at all tis," he said seriously, then glanced at the nurse. "And I don’t want her to be the one watching over her... I don’t think she can be trusted."

The nurse imdiately looked down, Damian’s gaze truly making her afraid.

"Alright, I’ll ask the staff to arrange that," the doctor said, then quickly left the room.

Damian looked back at the nurse, and then approached her.

"How much did Karina pay you?" he asked.

"What?" The nurse smiled awkwardly. "What are you talking about? I don’t even know who Karina is."

"You really don’t know?"

"No... I really don’t know. And I lied to the doctor because I didn’t want him to get angry and report

to the head of the hospital and fire ," the nurse explained.q

Damian fell silent, still looking suspiciously at the nurse.

"I can give you 50,000 or even more," he said again.

"Sir, I can’t lie to you to say yes to get that much money. Wouldn’t that make you feel cheated? Because I really don’t know the Karina you’re talking about." The nurse replied nervously.

"And now I know you’re lying."

"But I really am not lying... You can find out."

"And when you ask

to find out about you, to investigate you, it ans you’re very prepared and covering up your cri very neatly!" Damian whispered, gritting his teeth and clenching his fists.

Realizing Damian’s emotions, Valerie imdiately approached and embraced his arm.

"Don’t accuse recklessly!" She whispered firmly.

Damian just remained silent, his gaze still fixed on the nurse.

"Maybe your husband gets scamd too often, so he recklessly accuses people," the nurse said again, her face showing disappointnt. "I work hard here, serving the patients to the best of my ability. I didn’t expect one small mistake to make him think I’m colluding with the evil person he calls Karina," she continued before quickly leaving.

"Hey!" Damian imdiately followed the nurse, but Valerie prevented him by pulling his arm. "I haven’t even ntioned that she’s evil Why do you say that? Did you know she was evil?"

"Damian, don’t act crazy!" Valerie exclaid in annoyance.

Damian turned to face Valerie with frustration.

"Why are you stopping ? Don’t you think so? She has a responsibility to watch over Fanny while Ruben and Elliot have breakfast... But she chose to go to the bathroom but I think that’s just an excuse... I’m sure she’s the one who let Karina have access to get in here!" He said angrily.

"How can you think that far?" Valerie asked in amazent.

"Because Karina just left the upstairs which might be this floor... While you know that the obstetrician’s room is on the ground floor. And she was also rude to us... I’m sure she’s involved in what happened to Fanny!" Damian explained again angrily, occasionally glancing at Fanny who was not moving at all except for weak breathing. "You know why I suspect Karina? Because she once pretended to be kind to

but she was actually plotting to trap . Maybe she also did it to you, pretending to be nice to you but in reality, she was trying to harm you... And she used Fanny as a tool... The kindness she’s showing now is her way of avoiding accusations... She’s so cunning!"

Valerie sighed heavily, feeling sickened, now not knowing what to do, because Damian’s explanation made sense.

"Moreover, Fanny has no problem with you... It’s impossible for her to harm you without reason... And maybe the reason is because soone told her to!" Damian reiterated.

"I don’t know... I’m dizzy..." Valerie imdiately left the room.

Damian sighed heavily, shaking his head and leaving the room until he saw his two bodyguards were already outside while Valerie was waiting for him in the chair.

"You must not be careless this ti or I will fire you without giving you any money!" he whispered firmly.

They just nodded, bowing their heads.

"There may be soone who wants sothing bad to Fanny. So, even though there are nurses watching over them, you must not leave this place at the sa ti!"

"Yes, Sir."

Damian looked back at Valerie and approached her.

"Please... Don’t be angry with ," he said wearily.

Valerie just remained silent, bowing her head, indifferent to Damian sitting next to her. Her husband imdiately reached for her hand and held it.

"Forgive

if I showed rough behavior just now. I just didn’t want anything bad to happen to Fanny because she’s the only one we can interrogate to find out who our enemy is," Damian said anxiously.

"I know that..." Valeri nodded, then leaned her head on Damian’s shoulder. "I’m just tired... I don’t want to think about anything, I don’t want to suspect Karina even though your suspicions make sense... I don’t want to have enemies again, then imprison enemies... it will cause suffering."

"And no suffering compares to what Hannah feels," Damian whispered. "This isn’t just to protect us, but justice for Hannah... she lost her baby... She’s a victim."

"I know..."

"Please, don’t hold

back anymore." Damian pleaded, but Valerie remained silent. "It seems I have to et with the security at this hospital, I need to know what happened while Ruben and Elliot aren’t here."
