Chapter 102: forgiveness
The next day,
"You haven’t told
about what happened when I wasn’t sleeping here," Hannah said as she looked at Valerie enjoying her breakfast, consisting of milk pie, sausages, nuggets, and two glasses of milk on the table.
"It’s about Samuel, he’s not as good as we thought all this ti," Valerie replied with a flat look. "I don’t want to go into all the details because it will only keep haunting
with regret for trusting him. But the gist of it is, he instructed Clara to seduce Damian before we got married, then he asked Clara to seduce him again because he didn’t like
being close to Damian anymore," she continued before taking another bite of her milk pie.
"What’s a trap?" Daniel asked innocently.
Valerie smiled thinly while Hannah remained silent.
"A trap is sothing that leads soone into a situation wrongly," she explained, thinking. "It’s sothing very tricky and could be dangerous. So we have to be careful in every step we take because we might get trapped..."
"Hmm..." Daniel furrowed his brow, then went back to his food. "I don’t understand."
"Mama will explain later, now keep eating." Valerie ruffled Daniel’s hair, then refocused on her food.
"I didn’t expect him to be like that... You need to be careful with him," Hannah said, her eyes showing disappointnt. "You really should stay away from him... Don’t give him a chance to get close to you... He’s a dangerous man... And maybe your kindness makes him feel like he has a chance to get you... So it’s better not to be close to him at all if you can’t accept him," she continued with concern.
"Yeah... of course. I won’t have anything to do with him anymore," Valerie replied anxiously.
Hannah quickly finished her breakfast, as did Daniel and Valerie. After that, she and Jerry headed to daycare, while Valerie stayed ho to do household chores, and perhaps also had to attend a Zoom eting with a director in Korea.
Valerie washed the dirty dishes, and then neatly arranged them on the rack. She wiped the table, and the electric stove, then swept the entire room floor, and finally vacuud the carpet.
The doorbell rang.
Valerie imdiately turned off the vacuum and walked to the living room before opening the front door. Her mood imdiately turned grim when she saw Clara approaching, almost closing the door, but Clara held it back.
"Please, let
talk for a mont..." Clara pleaded. "I beg you, give
a chance..."
Valerie fell silent but slowly opened the door again and walked towards the terrace. She averted her gaze, seeing Tristan taking his motorcycle out of his rented house.
"I want to apologize for what I’ve done to you all this ti," Clara said, her face downturned, standing behind Valerie. "I know I may be too late and there has been too much suffering you’ve been through... I realize I was wrong... You’re my friend... you’ve been so kind to ... I shouldn’t have..."
"I already know what you’re going to say, regret is always at the end," Valerie said, making Clara stop talking. "I don’t want to discuss it again... Go and don’t bother
anymore, it will help
a lot to heal from this trauma," she continued, then swallowed her saliva, trying to hold back her emotions, her hands even clenched as if to punch her.
"Okay... I’ll go..."
"Go now..."
"But... I have to return this." Clara took a check from her gray bag and handed it to Valerie. "This is Jerry’s money, of course, it belongs to Damian. I got this because I dared to give testimony and tell the truth... But I won’t accept this... You and your son deserve this money more."
Valerie clenched her jaw, and her breath started to race, imagining if she hit Clara’s face, but her body kept trying not to do it.
"Maybe today is the last ti we et, and you will know what I will do after this and this plan only you know," Clara said anxiously. "I will go to a shelter... Social services... I will join charity organizations... I will quit my ssy and sinful lifestyle... I will go wherever they send ... I won’t think about my pleasures anymore," she continued, with tears streaming down her face.
Valerie turned to look at Clara and imdiately rembered the tis when they were still close friends.
"I’m so sorry..." Clara bowed her head. "I know what I’m doing now ans nothing to you... It will never change the situation..."
"Clara..." Valerie hugged her tightly. "I hate you, I hate you. I don’t know what demons possessed you all this ti that you could be so cruel to ... But I also love you... I like your decision, and I want the best for you!" she said with unbearable tears.
Clara beca more touched, not expecting Valerie to hug her.
"I would be so happy if we t again," Valerie said as she released her hug, looking down at Clara who was shorter than her while holding both of her shoulders. "One thing you need to rember, if you’re good, always spreading goodness, you’ll get a good man who also appreciates you, not just buying you for pleasure... Promise not to give up fighting your bad habits... Show
that you can be better... I would be so happy to et you with your best version," she continued with a brave smile.
"You’re so kind How could I be evil to you... I destroyed you!"
"It’s okay, this trauma won’t heal if I keep holding grudges against you, Damian, or Samuel. Forgiving and giving chances are the best ways to rise from adversity... I apologize for my previous attitude," Valerie said again.
Clara imdiately shook her head. "Never say sorry to ... I’m the one most at fault."
Valerie just nodded.
"And..." Clara showed the check again. "I can’t accept this..."
Valerie imdiately refused. "Keep it... you’ll need it very much. Your honesty already makes
and Daniel feel calm, it’s more valuable than money."
"Don’t doubt Damian anymore," Clara pleaded. "I’m sure that night he was also affected by the drugs that might have been mixed into his drink but Samuel still denies it and I don’t have evidence either..."
"Yeah... I trust you and don’t think about it anymore," Valerie replied with a nod.
Clara hugged her again, then said goodbye to leave imdiately.
Valerie fell silent with a feeling of relief, pounding as if there was still pain left from Clara’s betrayal.
’I have to move on... after all, that’s just the past, and Damian has also beco better. I don’t need to hesitate to go back to him,’ she thought, then glanced at Tristan driving his motorcycle towards her house.
