"Alex, would you like more salad?" asked Nora as she filled her own plate with at. "Alric, pass so salad to Alex, he likes it before eating his al." Alric paused. He raised his head to see Alex and then salad near him. When Alex did not refuse or argue, he took a deep breath.
With so hesitation, he picked up the bowl and placed it beside Alex. Alex’s stiffened hands picked up the bowl and took a good amount of salad. Ava froze at her place as the scene unfolded. Her hand held the fork so tightly that her knuckles turned white. Nora placed her hand on her arm.
Ava turned to look at Nora. she was stunned again with that assuring smile. No, she could not believe it. She had dread of their family for so many tis yet she got disappointed every ti. What if this was a temporary truce? She lowered her head and started eating again.
Nora smiled. She could understand Ava’s fear. But Alric wanted ands. As long as Alex agrees. She had asked him in the car. Alex had not replied.
"Alric! Today was our last exam. Alex had returned! even my birthday passed recently. Should we not celebrate it?" Ava was the first to nod.
"Of course, darling. If they did not have ti for you. We can celebrate without them." she glared at Alex and Alric making Alex gasp.
"What did I do? Why have I been abandoned too? If it is.." he went silent at once and looked away.
Alric was staring at him with a stunned gaze. But he soon looked away. Nora was still pouting. She leaned on Ava’s shoulders.
"Mom! Only you care about . We should book a spa and relax there. They did not care about at all." Alex shoved a large spoon of salad in his mouth to keep himself away from the chat.
He knew what Nora was doing. He knew what Ava wanted. But he could not bring himself to forgive Alric. Not like Alric wants to and anyway. He only wanted to win another favor from Ava.
"I will book the spa for both of you. And when you return, we will arrange a small party here. Only friends and a few of my colleagues. Is that Alright?" Alric shook his head helplessly as they both acted like he was a villain.
He filled soup in her bowl and then Ava’s.
Ava sighed. "Why a small one? We should organize a big one and announce your engagent already. You are not getting any younger. Many of my friends keep asking about you after Amyra had left. They all have hopes that you will marry their daughter." Ava sighed looking disturbed.
"Why don’t you tell them about ?" Nora frowned. Her face darkened. Just thinking about so many girls eying Alric made her blood boil.
"I did." Ava pushed the spoon back to her plate and glared at Alric. The man blinked. Where did he co from? "But they do not believe . They think you are pla.. Not serious about Nora since she is too young and you did not introduce her to your group. Alric, I am reminding you! You must end these gossips and clear your status before anyone else woo Nora." she spoke in a firm voice as she glared at Alric.
Nora glared at Alric too as if he had intentionally hidden her and planned to elope with soone.
"And Alex, do not learn from him. If you have soone in your mind, bring her ho and introduce her to your friends. You must flaunt your love." Ava nodded at Alex who cringed. Soone please remind why he joined this dinner?
He knew Nora and Ava were trying to ease the atmosphere for him. But he only felt like disappearing. He shook his head and continued to eat. If soone asked, he did not know any of them.
"Alright, i will arrange a big party then and announce my engagent with her. Is that alright?" he raised his head in a submissive form looking helpless.
Ava nodded pleased. Nora blinked and looked at the bowl of soup.
"You an we are getting engaged and soon to get married?" she would get married again. Flashes of her past started to erge all at once.
She held the spoon tightly when Alric took it from her hands. She raised her head to et his eyes.
He placed the sppn back on the table and held her hand.
"Yes, it is ti that you take control of this mad family. We fail to communicate and express ourselves. You can do that in our stead." he rubbed her hands softly with a tender look on his face. Heat started to rise on her skin and she looked away again but this ti for a completely different reason. This marriage! Perhaps, it would not be that bad.
"Alright, since I am incharge, Alex will be my assistant. He will help with all the work." Alex frowned. He had invisible himself but this girl had to drag him back.
"Why ?" he frowned, looking irked.
"Because you have always helped ." She spoke about it as a matter of factly. Now he would look pretty if he argued over it. But preparing for her engagent with Alric? It would have been better if she chose Victor instead.
"I will be busy!" he murmured, looking away. Ava sighed. She did not realize she was looking at him with hope filled eyes. Alric started eating again as if he had expected it.
But Nora did not let go. She kept staring at Alex until he frowned.
"What is it?" he hissed, throwing the spoon on the table. "Just because you have saved , you want to control now?" He knew he should have refused.
"No! I have ordered you from the first day we t. It doesn’t matter who I marry or what I did for you, Alex. I will always boss you around and you have to listen to ."
