"She could have been pregnant and you could have ended up in jail. You are only lucky. So it is better that you stay put for a few more months." Debra shook her head. She could not deal with these fools.
Why did it feel like Nora was more mature among them?
"Alric, we need to talk." Nora took a step back and nodded at Alric. Alric looked reluctant. He took a deep breath and followed Debra out of the room.
The mont they entered his study, his face was cold and somber.
"Have you thought about it thoroughly? You always refused to enter his business even if it ant ruining him from inside." Debra stared hard at him as she took her seat.
"You have to behave amiably and bring him many benefits in the start. Would you be able to do it?" Debra was worried. If Steve realized that they were planning against him, he would not think twice before getting rid of them.
"Alric, Mr Spencer only wants you because he thinks you bring him more benefit. If he thinks otherwise, you will be in fatal dange. Think about it again. Will you be able to control your emotions?" Alric stayed silent all this while.
He had never taken a step toward his father because he knew he could not control his hatred for him. He had chosen the long path to increase his business higher and higher and leave his father behind one day. Only that day, he would start targeting Mr Spencer.
"I have thought about it. If I did not join his business, he would continue targeting Nora."
"So it is for that girl. Huh?" Dabra smirked with a knowing look in her eyes. "You love her too much. Don’t you?" she was sure Alric would refuse or ignore her question but as the words fell, Alric nodded without any hesitation leaving her dumbfounded.
She stared at the man sitting in front of her and sighed.
"How ti has passed! You were just a young child. Scared of your wits. Like a porcupine you did not let anyone co closer as if we all will harm you and now.. You have grown up so much! You are going to start your own family. And here I am! Still single as your aunt. I should find a good man too." Alric’s face softened as he looked at her aunt.
They did not share blood. Yet Ava and her family had helped him at every step. If not for them, he would have killed his father and went to jail for the beast he was!
"Ti has flown by so fast! You are right, you need to marry before your grey hair and fine lines beco visible." Dabra glared at the young boy.
"You! How could you find a lover with your vicious tongue." she shook her head, "Nora must be blind. Forget it! Since I have finished my task here, I will leave." She passed a file to him and then left the room.
Just as she had opened the door, she was surprised that Nora did not go to rest. She was setting the table.
"Aunt!" She smiled at Debra. "Though it is late, I want to welco you as part of our family."
Debra blinked as she looked at the table and then at Nora. a smile blooming on her lips.
"Not tonight, honey. I have things to do. But I will co to et you with Ava tomorrow. Then we will share dinner and I will tell you the childhood story of Alric. Alright?" Nora hesitated. Should she pry over Alric’s childhood when he was reluctant to share it?
"Alright, I will co to pick you up after bringing your mother here." Alric noticed Nora’s hesitating eyes and replied warmly. He walked closer and hugged Nora from behind.
Debra watched the scene with moist eyes and left after hugging them. As if a weight had been lifted off her chest.
"You can know anything about . After all, we are a family now." Nora paused. She turned to look at him in confusion. Before, he had never been this comfortable about his past.
"Alric!" her voice softening, "i am sorry for the lie. But I thought you would never fall for it."
"I thought you had crossed the line with Victor."
"......" Nora’s eyes widened and she looked at him with utter belief only to notice a flushed face.
"When you said that you were pregnant, my mind stopped working. I knew that we have been playing with the boundaries. But you have dated Victor not too long ago and I never confird whether you are virgin or not. So... I am sorry. I should not just jump to conclusions so easily." that was not it! If he thought that she was pregnant with soneelse’s child, why was he so happy?
As if he could read the question in her eyes, Alric sighed and kissed her forehead.
"Even if that child had a different sperm, it would not change the fact that I am your husband. And I would be the father of your child." His voice was so soft and ensured that Nora closed her eyes.
But as the words sunk in, she shuddered.
"You are crazy!" she whispered softly. As she did not know how to respond. A man taking the responsibility of soone else’s child is still possible. But a man welcoming his lover pregnant with another man’s child is so bizarre that she could not even imagine it.
But there was one thing she could imagine now.. A future with Alric. Without being tied to a contract. A man loving her with all his heart. She hugged him, feeling a knot opening in her heart.
"Alric! Let’s have a lot of kids in the future." he wrapped her arms around her. His eyes looked at the distance.
"Yes, and provide them with a bright future where they need not be worried about anything." He would make it possible by getting rid of their dark past!
