Everyone looked at Penny with a ridicule in their eyes. They have already heard from the teachers what had happened and they felt nothing but disgust at Penny and her character.
"She must have a criminal mind to do sothing like this!" soone whispered just as Penny crossed them.
She turned and shot an icy glare at them but they only snorted.
"Pennelope Stone, explain your actions?" the teacher sounded furious.
"What is there to explain? My feet were scalded last night yet everyone behaved so coldly toward . Last night, I went to apologize to Nora and remind her that we are sisters but she insulted badly. She said she wanted to disappear.
I was disheartened and took the words by heart. In my anger and heartbreak, I left the hotel and decided to start trekking early. I thought we would et there eventually." she gave a sad smile as if she was wronged. "But here everyone is calling a criminal already. If Nora had spoken ill about , then I can understand. I do not bla any of you."
Do not bla them? Do not bla them! Director Ried laughed madly. He had never known that a student would have the power to drive him to madness.
"Young girl! Do you think everyone is gullible here? Just because you shed a few tears and speak bad words, your actions would be hidden! Ha! Tell , if you have any trouble with the room, why did you not ask for a separate room in the hotel only?"
"That... I did not think about it since I was so sad." Penny sniffled and more tears started to well in her eyes.
Penny wanted to applaud.
"Forget it. Then why did you not inform any of us before leaving? Did you not think that we would be worried about you at all?" his eyes narrowed intimidatingly.
Penny felt cold sweat on her back, but she could not bow now. She only sighed looking wronged.
"Because everyone was sleeping. And who should I go to? You all are strangers to and my own teachers are biased toward Nora. they would have only scolded and asked to not make a fuss. I was so disheartened." she sobbed harder. But she did not get the desired result.
Not a single person ca to take her side or support her, making her desperate.
"And then, you switched off your phone? Instead of calling us, you did not want to pick up our calls too?" The man took another breath and continued to interrogate. He could not believe that she could lie so much or use the sa excuse every ti.
"I did not switch it off. I forgot to charge it." She lied but the teacher only smiled victoriously as if he was waiting for her to say so.
"Is it? Show your mobile." he extended his hand but instead of giving her mobile to him, she held it tightly.
"It is my personal teacher. As a man, how could you ask for a girl’s phone?" Director Ried’s eyes twitched. His face was so twisted that a few students took a step back, afraid that they would be implicated too.
Kane ca forward and snatched her phone, making her gasp.
"Why? You have let hold your phone tomorrow and even carry you to your room. I am sure you would not mind if i hold it for a minute." he gave her a sweet smile but his eyes were mocking her. Penny gritted her teeth. She was a fool to believe that he had kind intentions toward her. He was there to mock her from the start like others.
"You are despicable." she cursed but he only scoffed. He pressed the button and the phone ca to life.
"Sixty five percent!" he raised the phone higher. Though others could not see it from a distance, they could see that the phone did not switch off. Many snickers and gasps could be heard from the crowd.
"This girl has opened my eyes to the world!"
"I know, I have never seen such a troublemaker in my life."
"Even the worst student of our school is better than her."
"How did she even get selected?" students were not even hiding in the dark anymore as they scolded her. Their eyes were full of disdain that Penny gritted her teeth.
"Who are you? What do you know? What right do you have to judge my actions? Do you have any idea how Nora behaved with ? It is all her fault. I was only a victim to her sches." she shouted hard but no one moved toward her.
Director Reid did not continue. He did not want to knock on a wall for a long ti. He looked apologetically at Nora.
"Little girl, I apologize for doubting you in the morning. Do not worry, I will make sure that she will be rusticated from the school!" Penny shivers as she ets the eyes of director Ried. She knew she could not show her status and her power in front of this man. She was still struggling for the right words when a cold laughed pierced her lips. Nora! It was all because of her.
’She should have been dragged to the police station and interrogated , yet here she was laughing while I was suffering because of her!’ Penny wanted to push the girl off the cliff but she did not dare to move in front of so many eyes looking at her.
"There is no need! I hope you forgive her this ti. She must have lost her composure after watching succeed." Everyone was stunned that Nora was pleading for Penny.
They felt pity for this girl. As Kane suggested, she was the orphan cousin of Penny. If Penny would be punished, she might bear the brunt.
"It must have been so hard for you, Nora. if you ever decide to leave that cursed family, my family will help you."
