A flash of lightning tore through the night sky, lighting up the room as if it were day.

The cell phone cara clearly captured the image of the entangled couple on the sofa.

The image shook, as Vera’s hand trembled.

Through the gaps in the philodendron leaves, her face was pale, her eyes bloodshot, her eyebrows full of sarcasm, tinged with a hint of bitterness.

Vera had never imagined that one day, in her own ho, she would deliberately set a trap, allowing her husband and his lover to entwine on the sofa outside her bedroom.

And, incredibly, she could calmly watch what she once regarded as a nightmare.

At this mont, Ian Kane was tearing at Serena Everett’s shoulder strap, a wild look on his face that Vera had never seen before...

A clap of thunder exploded, and Ian Kane sobered slightly, abruptly letting go of the person in his arms.

He picked up the remote control and turned on the lights.

Seeing it was Serena, he was montarily stunned, with a sharp look in his eyes, "Why is it you?"

As he spoke, his black eyes scanned the surroundings, searching for Vera’s figure. While undoing his tie, his tone turned colder, "Why are you in my house? Where is she?"

The questioning tone was full of vigilance towards Serena.

Previously, Nina Sullivan’s reckless actions nearly revealed the truth to Vera; he worried that Serena, this naive girl, might also overestimate her abilities and ruin his marriage.

Serena pulled up the strap that had slid down her shoulder and quickly stood up from the sofa to explain, "Sister-in-law asked to bring so tea over, and after dinner, the rain poured so she let stay over, and she’s gone to the kitchen downstairs to make you so sobering soup."

Ian Kane undid the buttons of his shirt, the flush on his neck not yet fully faded, crossed his legs, and lit a cigarette, exuding a refined yet degenerate air through the blue-gray smoke.

"She let you stay, and you stayed? Don’t you know what this place is?" His casual tone carried a hint of questioning.

Serena shivered, earnestly explaining, "The rain is too heavy; I know this is your and her ho. My presence is inappropriate... I have no ulterior motives; I know my place."

Behind the greenery, Vera watched the scene, her brow furrowed.

A kiss, and that was because he mistook soone while drunk. Serena’s ambiguous words didn’t prove they had an improper relationship.

"Kane, I’ll leave now." Serena said and turned to leave.

Ian Kane squinted at her back, narrowed his eyes, "Stay."

Hearing this, Vera’s hope rekindled.

She had planted pinhole caras in both Serena’s and Ian Kane’s bedrooms. Moreover, all the usual caras in the house were turned off tonight, leaving only a few hidden pinhole caras in corners.

She didn’t believe Ian Kane wouldn’t consummate with Serena tonight.

He could sneak around with Nina Sullivan in the dance studio, locker room, and car, so how could he pass up such a good opportunity?

Vera quietly left the greenery, went downstairs, and entered the kitchen.

After a while, Ian Kane found her, gently holding her from behind. Vera remained composed, "You’re back, I just finished making soup and was about to go upstairs; Serena is here."

Ian Kane leaned his chin on her shoulder, speaking lazily, "I saw, why did you let her stay? Wearing your nightgown, I almost mistook her for you."

Vera played dumb, "The rain is so heavy, plus it’s a typhoon, I heard several underground passages are flooded. It’s dangerous."

"Weren’t you childhood friends? Grew up together? Why are you so cold to her?"

Ian Kane curled his lips, his embrace tightening, "Mrs. Kane, haven’t you heard she had a one-sided crush on before? You’ve got a big heart."

Vera raised an eyebrow, realizing he was distancing himself from Serena while using a triangulation tactic, deliberately suggesting Serena had designs on him, making Vera feel threatened and uneasy.

She gently broke free, turned to hand him a cup of water, and smiled faintly, "Flies only infest cracked eggs. After all we’ve been through, do I still not trust you?"

Ian Kane slightly curled his lips, took the cup, and said nothing.

...

Whenever it’s rainy, Vera’s ankle would ache from arthritis.

Late at night, Vera frequently checked the ti on her phone screen, and Ian Kane was still sitting by the bed, giving her a hot compress.

"Mr. Kane, it’s late. You should return to your room and rest. You’ve been drinking, if you stay up late, your head will hurt more in the morning..."

Ian Kane looked at her, serious in tone, "Why would I rush? I don’t need sleep. Does it still hurt? Want to get painkillers?"

Not in a hurry to go to Serena’s room? Vera was fed up with his pretense, letting out a yawn, "It doesn’t hurt anymore. It’s just the gloomy weather that bothers ; I want to sleep."

Ian Kane nodded, helped her take off the hot compress bag, then left her bedroom.

He hadn’t been gone long before Vera took out her phone from under the pillow, holding her breath as she opened the hidden cara app, carefully watching Serena’s bedroom.

In the clear image, she was lying in bed, appearing to be asleep.

Ti passed, and just as Vera’s eyelids were getting heavy, Serena finally got up and left the room.

Soon, she encountered Ian Kane, who was drinking water in the living room on the second floor.

The man was in a dark blue silk robe, and he looked over at Serena.

Serena approached him, her gaze drifting over the rugged muscles under his V-neck and the faint scars, swallowing her dry throat, "Kane, you’re still up so late..."

Ian Kane glanced at her and lowered his head to drink water.

Vera saw them getting closer, clenching her hands tightly.

Serena walked behind Ian Kane and opened her arms as if to hug him. The man abruptly turned around, coldly staring at her, his tone carrying a warning, "This is my ho."

"And my principle."

With that, he set down the water glass and walked toward his bedroom.

Without a trace of reluctance.

Vera was stunned.

She had clearly heard Ian Kane’s words.

He ant he wouldn’t have an affair with Serena in their ho?

Vera was speechless.

A man who cheated still set a rule for himself not to have affairs at ho.

Ridiculous!

What Vera didn’t know was that Ian Kane had witnessed his father having an affair in their backyard as a child and hated it deeply, just as he wouldn’t allow Nina to bear his child.

He had an obsessive fixation on symbols of marriage.

Early the next morning, Vera checked the surveillance records again, and Ian Kane and Serena hadn’t left their rooms all night.

She kept Serena for breakfast.

After finishing his al, Ian Kane wiped his mouth with a napkin, looked at Serena, and asked nonchalantly, "Will Evan Shaw take you to the Hawthorne family banquet tonight?"

Today was the Hawthorne family’s old master’s eightieth birthday, and there was a banquet at Hawthorne Manor in the evening.

Serena looked up, "Yes, Kane, after the banquet, I have to rush back to Tristone overnight. Tomorrow, an important figure from Veridia is coming to the guesthouse."

Ian Kane nodded, "My wife and I will also be there."

Vera ca out of the kitchen, overhearing their conversation, and accidentally saw under the table, the toe of Ian Kane’s shoe brushing against Serena’s fair calf.

She tugged at the corner of her mouth.

It seed they had plans for tonight.

In the evening, Vera changed into an evening gown, just finishing her makeup.

Ian Kane walked in from outside, looking serious, "Wife, where are those jade jewelry pieces from your safe? How co they are all gone?"
