"Surprise!"

The next second, Vera clearly saw the face of Nina in the dim lighting, looking both innocent and alluring.

The light was dim on the other side. She tilted her head, looking up at the cara, wearing a black lace slip dress. From her side, the view showed the seductive curve of her chest.

Vera’s mind buzzed, and her left ear started to ring.

In the bathroom, Ian heard Nina’s voice, raised his eyelids, and did not go out.

Nina was montarily stunned when she saw Vera, her smile frozen on her face, then she quickly put on a displeased tone, "Why is it you?"

Vera also wanted to ask why Nina was on Ian’s WeChat, and why she was video calling in the middle of the night.

The cara shifted, Nina’s flawless face enlarged on the screen, and after a while, she looked at the cara, her beautiful eyes seemingly filled with defiance, "I called the wrong person, I was looking for Quentin."

The video call ended.

Vera casually opened their WeChat chatbox, only seeing the one video call record, lasting 59 seconds...

She stood dazed at the bathroom door, looking down at her phone screen, her brow furrowed, her mind blank.

Over in Ardendale, after ending the video call, Nina paced in panic, waves of anxiety gripping her heart.

Ever since her miscarriage, Ian hadn’t contacted her. Tonight, she dressed up to video call him, and when he accepted, she was thrilled montarily, only to find out it was that cripple who answered.

Would Ian once again bla her, punish her?

She didn’t an it!

Nina stopped in her tracks, humbly sent Elias a ssage explaining, asking him to say a few good words for her in front of Ian.

Her envy and resentnt towards Vera deepened.

That cripple was truly lucky, to have Ian so devoted to her, even publicly declaring that she was his only wife.

But she didn’t believe it.

Without sex, love and marriage couldn’t last long!

...

The frosted glass door opened from the inside, and a fresh, clean soap scent wafted into her nose as Vera ca back to her senses.

Ian was only wrapped in a white towel around his waist, his upper body bare, his hair dripping water, he glanced at her, his tone casual, "Who was calling just now?"

Vera t his eyes, which seed amused yet not, and said nervously, "Su, Nina, I accidentally answered it."

Ian’s gaze darkened, his voice turned colder, "What does she want again."

Vera swallowed, "She said she dialed the wrong number, looking for Quentin."

"Why do you have each other’s... never mind," he changed his question halfway through, already feeling annoyed himself for asking too much.

Moreover, that Nina had been detained for a week for spreading rumors and slandering him.

She handed the phone to him, but Ian didn’t take it, "You asked to add her before, rember? Once, that Nina ca back from a competition abroad and was on the sa flight as , you asked to add her to bring her back to the dance troupe."

Hearing this, Vera gradually recalled, it was from more than half a year ago...

Ian continued, "Delete her."

Vera complied.

Thinking of the other day when Nina was on a shopping spree at the mall, she guessed there was still so entanglent with Quentin.

She tried handing the phone to Ian again, and this ti, WeChat rung with a video call invitation.

Vera imdiately recognized the profile picture as Kiera Crowe’s, taken in a Hepburn-style portrait.

A sharp pang in her heart, she extended her arm, handing the phone to him.

Ian glanced at the screen, then at her, "You answer it."

Vera was montarily stunned, then understood that he wanted her to deal with his pursuer as his wife.

After a brief hesitation, she decided to answer.

"Kane—" Kiera was obviously startled to see Vera, the next mont, a generous smile graced her face, "Vera, it’s you."

The beautiful woman opposite, in a wine-red French dress, hair up, adorned with a full set of pearl jewelry, as if attending a ball.

The background was a bustling scene of dining and conversations.

Vera smiled, "Miss Crowe, what business do you have with my husband? He’s in the shower."

As she spoke, Ian walked up behind her, gently hugging her, resting his chin on her shoulder, looking intimate, "Honey, who is it?"

Through the screen, Kiera saw Ian’s bare shoulders and neck, intimately embracing the bare-faced, plainly dressed Vera, her face turned slightly pale, realizing they were showcasing their love, signaling her to back off.

They seed to have truly reconciled.

Kiera adopted the poise of a noble heiress, "Kane, I’m accompanying my grandfather to a banquet with many political figures here, intending to introduce you, but I won’t disturb your marital bliss!"

Once again, she lost to Vera, the Cinderella with no family or background.

Previously, she lost because Vera was Ian’s white moonlight.

Now, even with one leg crippled, Ian still loved her for so reason.

Kiera couldn’t understand.

After ending the video call, Ian didn’t let go of Vera, savoring the scent of her neck and shoulder, "I dined with her deliberately, accompanied her to buy jewelry, leaked news to the dia about our two families marrying to boost the Kane Group’s stock price."

"There’s nothing else."

As he spoke, he recalled that night when she drank in sorrow, tears on her cheeks, evoking a sense of pity in him.

She cared about him.

Vera also rembered the bitterness of misunderstanding their engagent, feeling much relieved, "Ian, I want... to be brave and try again."

"Pull yourself together too."

Ian smiled, "With my wife saying that, I have to pull myself together."

Vera felt at ease.

But Ian seed to have no intention of returning to Ardendale, instead shutting off his phone, appearing indifferent to the outside world.

Every day, he accompanied her to drink tea, play chess, cook, or take her to the pond behind the yard to fish.

Vera learned from finance news that the Kane Group’s stock continued to plumt, the internal structure was fragnted, and Liam, the acting president, lacked authority and the capability to turn the tide.

Especially after a conversation recording of Mrs. Kane attempting to bribe Nina to slander Ian was leaked online, Ian beca the business battle’s victim, garnering sympathy and collective opposition to Liam as president.

At the Kane Group, a gloomy atmosphere enveloped the eting room, directors all looking distressed.

Director Lyle looked at Old Master Kane, seated at the head, "Chairman Kane, under the current situation, we can only ask President Kane to return and continue managing the company!"

Old Master Kane looked exceptionally grim.

He initially intended to use Ian’s scandal to drive him out of the Kane Group, now he had to call him back!

Old Master Kane glanced to his right at Noah Grant, his deanor more courteous, "Noah, is there any flaw in Ian’s resignation process?"

Noah, in a suit and tie, exuded calmness, slightly nodded, "According to Article 26 of the Group’s Bylaws, resignations during a presidency require over 80% board approval."

"Currently, his resignation only has 60% approval. Based on this, he can be asked to withdraw his resignation and return to his position."

Old Master Kane gritted his teeth quietly, unwilling but accepting for the greater good. He looked at Liam, "Where is Ian now?"

Liam gripped his pen, "The couple is on vacation in the mountains of Tristone."

Old Master Kane remained arrogant, "Call him back!"

Noah’s eyes narrowed slightly, "Chairman Kane, a phone call might not bring him back."

He knew Ian well, aware of the resentnt Ian harbored against Old Master Kane.

Old Master Kane pursed his lips, looking at Noah, "Noah, as the group’s legal advisor, I’ll trouble you to send him a legal notice, sue him!"

Noah pondered deliberately, nodding.

...

At The Glimr Garden, Vera, dressed in an off-white cheongsam, was cutting flowers in the garden, arranging them in a vase, when there was a knock on the door.

Assuming it was Ian returning from fishing, she put down the wicker basket, unhurriedly walked to open the door.

"Honey—" As she unlatched the door, she called out with a bright smile.

The next second, her smile awkwardly froze at the corner of her lips.

The person outside wasn’t Ian, but Noah Grant.
