As Vera Sheridan just arrived on the first floor of the café, a group of reporters and social dia influencers sward her: "Mrs. Kane, can you confirm if President Kane really cheated?"

"Mrs. Kane, are you here to negotiate with Nina with evidence in hand?"

"Nina just had a miscarriage. Was it President Kane’s child?"

"If President Kane didn’t cheat, why would you co to et Nina? So you must have had suspicions all along, right?"

Vera Sheridan never intended to air her family matters in public and was acutely aware of the impact this had on Ian Kane and the Kane Group. She raised her voice and said, "You’ve misunderstood!"

Reporter: "But soone tipped us off that you and Nina are the legitimate wife and the third party—"

Vera’s ears buzzed as she picked up her phone and called the police.

About ten minutes later, the local police arrived and dispelled the crowd of reporters.

The café finally quieted down.

Vera felt exhausted.

As she turned, she saw Nina descending from the second floor, standing on the staircase, looking down at her with a smug smile on her lips.

Under police escort, she left the café.

The nearby reporters and photographers were also driven away.

A Phantom with the license plate ending in 622 approached and quickly pulled over.

was her birthday.

The front door opened, and Ian Kane’s driver and assistant, Elias Crowe, got out of the car, the driver walked to the back seat and opened the door, while Elias exchanged pleasantries with the police officers.

Soon, a man in a suit stepped out of the back seat, polished black shoes tapping as he walked toward her.

With each step he took, Vera’s heart grew more anxious.

As he reached her, Mr. Kane clasped her wrist and led her to the police, speaking in a gentle tone:

"Officer, I’m filing a report on behalf of my wife. A girl nad Nina has repeatedly provoked my wife, agitated her emotions, and spread slander about in her presence."

The police officer raised an eyebrow and asked Vera seriously, "Mrs. Kane, is this true?"

Vera hesitated for a mont before nodding, "Yes."

Just then, Nina erged from the café and, seeing Ian Kane, acted like a mouse facing a cat, trying to run away.

Elias Crowe said, "That’s the one!"

The police imdiately moved to stop her.

Nina was taken into the police car.

...

Inside the Phantom, the air was suffocatingly quiet.

Vera’s phone kept buzzing with notifications:

[Suspected infidelity of the Kane Group’s CEO Ian Kane, wife ets rumored mistress for negotiations in café]

[CEO of the Kane Group, Ian Kane, embroiled in scandal, could lead to a sharp decline in the company’s stock price]

Looking at these headlines, Vera felt a mix of emotions.

She turned to the silent man smoking a cigarette, clenching her hands, and explained, "You went to Nina’s hospital room yesterday, which puzzled . Then she called today, so I went."

Ian Kane removed the cigarette from his lips, flicked it into the car’s ashtray, and let out a sarcastic smile, "Vera, are you particularly eager to catch cheating, huh?"

Vera heard the irony and anger in his voice, her heart in turmoil.

"Ian Kane, you know I more than anyone wish for our marriage to be happy, without deceit or betrayal."

It’s just that she couldn’t tolerate even a grain of sand. "Yes, this ti I doubted you again, and Nina indeed has your intimate photos, with your upper body bare. I saw them. Tell , how did she get them?"

Ian Kane snorted, raised his hand to turn her face toward him.

The man’s polished and handso face bore a cold expression, exuding an intimidating aura.

Vera instinctively wanted to evade, but his hand cradled her cheek firmly, making it impossible to pull away.

"Where she got those photos from is sothing you can ask the police in a minute!" Ian Kane nearly gritted out, eyes bloodshot, "I’m puzzled too, what exactly did I do wrong to make you distrust so much? I’ve already given you half my life; what more do you want from ?"

"At night, you still lock the door against ... We’ve been married for nearly a year. Have I ever forced you, even once? For God’s sake, I haven’t even touched your lips—" He released her as he spoke, turning his head to the car window, his long fingers tugging at the knot of his black tie.

Feeling his grievance and anger, Vera’s mind grew even more chaotic as she turned to look out the window.

In the front cabin, Elias Crowe glanced back through the rearview mirror, beads of cold sweat dotting his palms.

He couldn’t help but admire President Kane’s psychological composure.

Despite being the one who cheated, he could still turn the tables, making Vera feel guilty.

With his reddened eyes and a look of painful helplessness, it was hard to tell he was acting.

Today, he truly understood the weight of President Kane’s phrase, "playing on human weaknesses."

Nina’s human weaknesses were: poverty, vanity, greed.

So, while she was negotiating with the madam, he sent Nina a tempting text through the café’s surveillance, giving her a taste of what she wanted, and she cooperated obediently, reneging at the last minute.

However, the reporters were arranged by President Kane himself.

Using the scandal to damage his own reputation and financial interests, he trapped the madam in guilt and self-reproach.

That was truly a ruthless move, one he’d never have imagined.

Elias pulled himself together and acted accordingly, "President Kane, I just inquired, and the café’s surveillance wasn’t operational. We have no evidence to publicly expose Nina’s misconduct, making it difficult to clear the negative online rumors against you."

Vera clenched her hand.

Ian Kane lowered his head, rubbed his nose bridge tiredly, and said, "Leave it for the police to investigate."

Elias continued, "President Kane, clearing your na in such a scandalous affair might prove quite challenging. Even if Nina confesses to slander and defamation, the madam did et with her, and the public will likely assu you paid to silence her, which could still tarnish your reputation."

"The forr chairman of Lorir Group’s scandal serves as a typical example."

"Could Elder Kane take the chance to topple you?"

Only now did Vera realize that the issue was even more grave than she thought.

Her heart felt weighed down, only to see Ian Kane beside her with closed eyes, resting silently.

Soon, they arrived at the local police station where Vera and Ian Kane both gave statents.

As Vera erged from the interrogation room, she saw an officer handing Ian a sealed envelope, "Nina confessed to your accusations, and we’ve gone through these photos. Behind them are so male models from a nightclub; only the first photo resembles you, but it’s doctored."

Ian Kane nodded, accepting the envelope, "Thank you all for your hard work. We are fully pursuing legal action against Nina. My lawyer will follow up with you shortly."

The officer said, "No need to be formal, President Kane. This is our duty."

Vera stood there, stunned.

So, Nina had used fake photos for this whole debacle.

Ian Kane bid farewell to the officer and strode toward her, Vera moving forward to et him.
