Chapter 897: 897. Adam Jones is completely dead Chapter 897: 897. Adam Jones is completely dead Helen lendy found herself at a loss for words after the barrage of questions.
“There isn’t even a hint of ‘double happiness’ characters written yet—why talk about marriage? I’ve told you before, let’s just go with the flow and take one step at a ti.”
Helen did not really want to discuss her relationship with Harry Hall with Elly Campbell, fearing it would upset her by reminding her of Adam Jones, so she subtly changed the subject, saying:
“There’s a new dessert shop that opened in Baton Rouge today, with really great flavors—sweet but not cloying. I know you like desserts, so I ca specially to invite you over.”
Elly was in no mood for sweets, but she knew Helen had co all the way to find her, out of concern, and to cheer her up.
She did not want to decline Helen’s kind gesture and nodded in agreent.
“Okay.”
However, as soon as they arrived at the dessert shop and had not yet adjusted their mood, Elly ran into soone who made her feel even worse.
lody Baker had not expected that even a simple dessert outing with her best friend would lead to an encounter with Elly.
Over the past few days, she had probably lived so of the most relaxing monts of her life. She had been constricted in front of Elly for so long, and just the other day at old Mr. Lin’s birthday banquet, she and her fling had been severely humiliated by Jenna Clark. To say these recent few days were difficult for her was an understatent.
But it seed that God, perhaps feeling sympathetic towards her suffocated life, decided to complicate things for Elly’s biggest supporter, Adam Jones.
Although Adam’s whereabouts were still unknown, chances were he was done for.
What was Elly without Adam Jones? Especially now, when the Jones family was barely holding on.
A wretched woman without Adam, the Jones family, or the Campbell support—lody was eager to see if she could still be as arrogant as before.
To lody, Elly, as she stood now, was nothing to be afraid of; she even seed to wish Elly was more distraught as she began speaking, aiming straight for Elly’s heart.
“I’d never have thought I’d run into you just by coming out for a dessert. It seems Mrs. Jones and I share quite the fate.”
Seeing lody Baker annoyed Elly, who had no intention of arguing with her.
Without so much as a glance at lody, Elly made to push the door and enter the dessert shop.
lody, thinking Elly was ignoring her out of fear, and rembering the humiliation she had endured at Elly’s hands, was determined not to let Elly leave quietly.
“I thought you’d be hiding under the covers, crying about Adam’s troubles, but here you are, in the mood for dessert. All Adam’s unwavering protection of you gone to waste—if he knew his wife was out having desserts before he’s even cold in the grave, I can’t imagine how disappointed he’d be.”
Elly stopped in her tracks, a cold frost spreading across her face.
Noticing Elly had stopped, lody felt triumphantly bold and couldn’t help but continue to poke at her sore spot:
“You’re in the mood for desserts before he’s even properly dead. If he actually dies, would you celebrate with fireworks and then remarry, dragging that child of yours along? With that face of yours, plenty of widowers or those looking for a second marriage would be happy to take you in—you…”
Before she could finish speaking, her face was t with a slap from Elly.
lody had not expected Elly, in her current situation, to forgo trying to butter her up to ask Jas Campbell to lend a hand to the Jones family, and instead strike her in public.
“Elly… you dare to hit !”
She covered her face, eyes filled with crimson rage, glaring at Elly.
Seeing Elly shake her numbed wrist, she said, “I almost forgot, Adam once said that you have thick skin—that it’s best to use a slipper to hit you, so it wouldn’t hurt the hand.”
