Emma Williams very proactively sat in the seat above Mrs. Taylor.
Laura Jones was pulled over by Hannah Taylor to sit on Mrs. Taylor’s right side.
Poker isn’t hard to learn, especially for soone like Laura Jones who grew up in an academic family. She understood the rules after just one round.
Therefore, after observing for a round, Laura Jones also vaguely noticed that Emma Williams, sitting above Mrs. Taylor, had intentionally let Mrs. Taylor win several tis.
If even she could see it, the other two poker experts couldn’t have missed it.
One of the wealthy ladies, after losing an entire ga, threw down the poker tiles, with a slightly annoyed expression:
"I’m not playing anymore, I’m always the one losing."
She glanced at the beaming Mrs. Taylor and said with a huff:
"You’ve certainly chosen a good spot."
She wasn’t upset about losing, nor was she truly mad at Mrs. Taylor, but she clearly disapproved of Emma Williams’ brown-nosing behavior.
Outwardly she seed to be ribbing Mrs. Taylor, but in truth, she was clearly mocking Emma Williams.
Emma Williams was sharp enough to catch on to this.
Yet she put on an innocent front, apologizing, "It’s all my fault for not being skilled enough, please don’t be upset, Auntie."
She glanced awkwardly at Mrs. Taylor, and her apology had a dual aning.
Firstly, she wanted to perform well in front of everyone, and since she caused soone to lose, she honestly apologized.
But more importantly, she wanted Mrs. Taylor to know that the reason Mrs. Taylor kept winning was that she was letting her win deliberately.
Of course, Mrs. Taylor could hear it and had noticed during the card ga.
This young woman not only knew how to play cards, but she was too good at it.
So much so that she let others win without drawing attention, making it seem like she didn’t know how to play and thus was always giving way.
In truth, at the wealthy level they were at, who really cared about winning or losing money — the enjoynt was in the card playing itself.
Although she didn’t say anything outright, she was sowhat displeased with Emma Williams’ behavior.
But she couldn’t quibble with a child, so she just smiled and comforted the frustrated wealthy lady:
"Alright, alright, next ti I’ll let you win, don’t be mad."
That wealthy lady wasn’t truly angry; she just found Emma Williams’ thod revolting.
There are countless ways to please elders, but such manipulations in gas are what she disliked the most.
"That’s more like it."
The wealthy lady snorted haughtily, about to sit down and shuffle the cards when her phone rang.
"My old man is calling, wait for ."
After the call, she said to Mrs. Taylor:
"The old man is asking to go fishing, you all play by yourselves."
"Tsk tsk tsk, even at this age, you’re showing off your love, go ahead."
Mrs. Taylor teased as she saw the wealthy lady off and sighed:
"How long has it been, and we’re already one person short."
She looked at Laura Jones, who had been learning for a while, smiling kindly—
"Laura, have you learned how to play?"
"I’ve learned the rules, but I’m not very good. I’m afraid I’ll hold everyone back."
Laura Jones replied honestly.
"No worries, sit down and play a few rounds with us, just play casually to practice."
Mrs. Taylor smiled.
Since Mrs. Taylor put it that way, Laura Jones didn’t refuse, moving over to sit in the wealthy lady’s previous seat.
Emma Williams glanced at Laura Jones but dared not express her dissatisfaction.
After the four organized the poker tiles, they started the next round.
