Helen lendy could sense Olivia’s emotions, unsure of what her newly recognized parents truly thought.
But she could feel that they were genuinely happy to recognize her as their daughter.
Besides, Olivia had been their daughter for thirty years; not forcing her out was understandable, and she wouldn’t make it difficult for them to send Olivia away.
After this reunion, her life would carry on as usual, and she would continue living with Harry Hall. She just had a few more family mbers now.
So, even knowing that Olivia wasn’t sincerely welcoming her ho, she didn’t mind.
However, Mr. and Mrs. Smith and Edward Smith showed noticeably darkened expressions when they saw the ager gift Olivia presented.
Even though they were strict with Olivia, they never shortchanged her financially, giving her a monthly allowance of a million.
Even if she were strapped for cash, it shouldn’t be that difficult to get a slightly more significant gift. A scarf?
Evelyn Taylor shot a cold look her way, but Olivia either genuinely didn’t see or pretended not to notice, ignoring Evelyn’s gaze entirely.
After Helen lendy accepted the scarf, she heard Olivia say:
"We only found out a few days ago that you’re our sister. I wanted to knit you a scarf personally, but I was afraid I wouldn’t finish in ti and was worried you wouldn’t like it. Now that I hear you say you like it, I’m relieved."
She managed to give a very touching and reasonable explanation for giving such an inexpensive gift.
At the sa ti, she subtly conveyed a ssage to everyone that due to the short ti, she could only stay up all night knitting the scarf, tired and weary. This intent was incomparable to any gift worth millions or billions.
Even if, in the end, Helen lendy didn’t appreciate the scarf, she couldn’t say anything.
Saying sothing would make her seem ungrateful, insatiable.
anwhile, as Olivia had stayed up knitting a scarf for Helen lendy, her parents and older brother had no grounds to bla her.
Olivia calculated these relationships perfectly and even naively thought no one could see through it, smugly proud of her cleverness.
Helen lendy looked down and smiled mockingly.
She truly didn’t care whether Olivia’s gift was valuable or not. If she had genuinely stayed up knitting this scarf for her, she would have been touched by how much Olivia valued her.
But with ulterior motives involved, it lost its aning.
anwhile, Thomas Smith, realizing that Olivia had stayed up to knit the scarf for Helen lendy, was fuming.
No wonder she looked so haggard in the morning. Thomas felt both angry and heartbroken.
Yet, unfortunately, their parents and brother were wholly focused on Helen lendy, without any thought for Olivia, causing Thomas to redirect so of his anger at Helen lendy.
The gifts he originally prepared were now left alone on the ground, with no intention of currying favor with Helen lendy.
Seeing him like this and then looking at Thomas, Mr. and Mrs. Smith sighed and shook their heads, not saying anything further.
Helen lendy placed the scarf aside while Harry Hall had already stood up to make them coffee.
Apart from Thomas and Olivia, Mr. and Mrs. Smith and Edward Smith were genuinely pleased to reunite with Helen lendy, and the natural blood ties made them feel instinctively closer after chatting for a while.
