Adam Jones’s brow furrowed slightly, showing no visible emotion.
Sophia Taylor noticed that Adam still rembered her, and a subtle glimr appeared in her eyes.
Instinctively, she reached up to brush a strand of hair behind her ear, pressed her lips together, and nodded, "It’s , Mr. Jones."
"What is it?"
Adam’s tone was bland, devoid of any discernible emotion.
Sophia hesitated, trying to figure out how to speak without making her request seem abrupt or overly purposeful.
She didn’t want Adam to think she was the sa as those won who had tried to get close to him in the past.
Seeing her remain silent, Adam found her affected deanor increasingly irritating. His eyes betrayed a hint of impatience.
Without waiting for her even a mont longer, he stepped away.
Sophia was stunned. She wasn’t very familiar with Adam but had heard that he was aloof and not particularly warm or proactive in his interactions with others.
But to see him lacking even the patience to wait for her to speak—this was a first.
She knew she could never compare to Elly Campbell, but surely she wasn’t so unattractive as to make soone unwilling to spare even a mont for her?
Feeling frustrated, Sophia stomped her foot and, steeling herself, followed him.
"President Jones, please wait for , President Jones."
Thinking of Lily Jones’s "encouragent," Sophia mustered her courage and blocked Adam’s path.
The coldness in Adam’s gaze flickered montarily, and his brows knitted tightly.
Though Adam didn’t look directly at Sophia, the oppressive chill radiating from him made her shiver uncontrollably.
Recalling his attitude earlier, Sophia dared not waste any more ti. She couldn’t afford to carefully consider her words and was just about to speak when she heard soone call out behind her: "Honey."
That familiar voice—who else could it be but Elly Campbell?
Sophia’s hard-won courage was imdiately shattered. She gritted her teeth angrily and turned around.
Adam’s once-cold expression instantly softened with the warmth of spring when he saw his wife appear.
Without giving Sophia a chance to speak, he stepped forward to et Elly.
"Why are you here?"
"I ca to invite you to lunch,"
Elly replied with a smile. Then, turning her head as if only just noticing Sophia, her eyes showed a hint of surprise, "Miss Taylor, what brings you here?"
Sophia sneered inwardly but maintained a calm deanor as she replied warmly:
"Miss Campbell, I’ve finished my volunteer teaching in the mountains and returned to Boston to look for work. I had a small favor to ask of President Jones, so..."
She smiled sowhat apologetically.
To be honest, she was well-aware of her own limitations. She knew she had no chance against Elly Campbell and could never aspire to soone like Adam Jones. Even if she had high ambitions, she’d never thought of pursuing Adam.
Nor did she want anyone to think she was deliberately trying to climb the social ladder, so during her ti in the mountains, she had avoided speaking to Adam as much as possible.
Now coming to Adam out of the blue did feel a little abrupt.
Even as she spoke these words, Sophia felt anxious inside.
Especially seeing how Adam and Elly interacted—it didn’t seem like the strained relationship Lily Jones had hinted at.
Sophia’s heart sank, suspecting that Lily might have misled her.
