“Have a cup of coffee, let’s talk slowly.”

When Lily saw that he didn’t move, she seed to guess his concerns and chuckled self-mockingly,

She gestured towards the outside with her eyes and said,
“There are quite a few of your n outside, aren’t there? Even if I did add sothing, could I escape?”
Adam didn’t say a word, his look slightly softened.
Lily didn’t insist on him drinking the coffee; instead, she took her own cup and took a small sip, saying,
“Adam, we probably won’t be able to have coffee together like this in the future.”
Her tone carried a hint of lancholy.
Adam glanced at her and responded heavily.
No matter what feelings he held for Lily, the fact that she had masterminded his father’s death years ago couldn’t just be overlooked.
From now on, Lily’s latter half of her life would have to be spent in prison.
He looked at Lily, this intelligent, knowledgeable woman, and in a blink of an eye, all he could see was the desolation and vicissitudes in her eyes.
Adam pondered for a mont, then reached out to pick up the coffee, moving it towards his mouth.
Lily’s voice continued to co from his left,
“All these years, every ti you ca to talk about your father’s accident, I was always scared, afraid you would trace it back to .”
Adam’s gaze slowly lifted to look at her.
“It’s not imprisonnt I fear, nor the death penalty, what I fear the most, is that the child who has seen as a mother since childhood will end up hating .”
She looked at Adam, her emotions complex.
This child, while resembling Thompson Shuyi in appearance, had expressions in his eyes more like his father, Henry Jones.
She loved yet hated Henry, and it was the sa for this child.
She had truly loved this child, but had also hated him; this complex and contradictory mix of emotions had tornted her for over twenty years.
Adam’s hand holding the coffee cup tightened imperceptibly.
He saw the tears forming in Lily’s eyes, faint yet stirring a tumult in his heart.
His throat constricted, as if a stone was lodged there, unable to move up or down.

Lily stood up again from the sofa and quickly went upstairs.
A mont later, she ca back down, holding a mahogany box.
She sat down next to Adam and opened the box.
Inside was a palm-sized gold longevity lock and she said,
“This is for your unborn child.”
Adam was montarily stunned, only to hear Lily say,
“That day, when I went to the Jones family house, Elly Campbell said that when the child is born, they should call grandma. I thought, since they are to call grandma, I should prepare a gift, right?”
She pushed the box into Adam’s hands and said,
“I won’t get the chance to personally put it on the child. Can you take it back for ?”
Holding the mahogany box, Adam felt rather somber.
He wanted to ask her, if that was the case, why had she initially sched for him to personally destroy that child, did she not realize what this ant?
