Chapter 549: Chapter 547: He’s Leaving
Xia Yiwan’s lips quivered, “If not laughing, what else can I do?”
Before starting the engine, Zhou Hengnian glanced at Xia Yiwan. She was completely soaked, her long hair clinging to her petite face, her complexion slightly pale. In her clear, apricot-colored eyes, a faint redness shimred, yet she was trying hard to force a cheerful smile.
An extre sadness and pain emanated from her.
Zhou Hengnian extended his long hand toward Xia Yiwan, but stopped short of touching her face.
Xia Yiwan blinked, “What are you doing?”
“I’m lending you my sleeve.”
Xia Yiwan frowned, puzzled, “Lend your sleeve for what?”
“To cry, to wipe away tears.”
Xia Yiwan, “…”
She didn’t know whether to laugh or cry at his words and gesture.
“Brother, your sleeve is wet.”
Zhou Hengnian looked at his own sleeve, still dripping with water, and his brows knitted together. He took a few tissues from the glove compartnt and handed them to her, “Pretend I’m air, if you want to cry, just have a good cry!”
Ever since she had awakened, she had not shed a single tear.
Even when she learned that her child was lost and that she could never get pregnant again, her eyes had only reddened.
But Zhou Hengnian knew she was always repressing her emotions.
She said she had cried too much before, that tears were the most useless thing in the world.
But what she didn’t realize was that tears are useless because that person didn’t care about her.
For soone who cares about her, tears are useful.
Xia Yiwan looked at the man before her, stern and noble, and she couldn’t help but feel amused and sad at the sa ti.
“How can you possibly be air when you’re such a big presence here?”
Zhou Hengnian’s brows furrowed slightly, “Should I get out of the car?”
Before Xia Yiwan could say anything, she sneezed twice in succession.
“I’ll take you back to the Shang residence.”
Xia Yiwan shook her head, “Take back to the apartnt!”
Looking like this, her godmother would definitely worry.
Zhou Hengnian didn’t say anything more and drove towards Xia Yiwan’s apartnt.
When they arrived at the apartnt building, Xia Yiwan opened the car door and got out.
She walked over to the driver’s side door and knocked on the window.
Zhou Hengnian rolled down the window, his deep eyes looking towards Xia Yiwan, “What is it?”
“Your clothes are completely wet. Co up and get changed.” Afraid that he would misunderstand, Xia Yiwan quickly added, “Don’t worry, I have no intentions towards you.”
Zhou Hengnian’s gaze darkened for a mont, then he said, “I know.”
He opened the car door and followed her up to the apartnt in the elevator.
The apartnt of Xia Yiwan wasn’t big, just one bedroom and a living room.
There was only one bathroom. Initially, she had asked Zhou Hengnian to shower first, but he stood still without moving.
It seed like Xia Yiwan rembered sothing as she quickly went to the room to fetch a clean set of clothes.
Seeing the n’s shirt and trousers she handed him, Zhou Hengnian frowned.
A white shirt, and a pair of suit pants.
Noticing his tense expression, Xia Yiwan explained, “These clothes are new; I bought them intending to give them to my dad. He’s getting released from prison soon. He’ll be out in a few days. You are a bit taller than my dad, so they might be a bit small, but it’ll have to do for now!”
Zhou Hengnian’s tense expression softened sowhat.
He was always a serious, no-nonsense person. Just a furrow of his brow, and his entire aura would beco oppressively intense, making him seem especially fierce and stern.
“You don’t think I’m giving you my ex-husband’s clothes to wear, do you?” Xia Yiwan said in a tone that seed to be joking.
Zhou Hengnian raised his hand and patted Xia Yiwan’s head, “Not funny.”
“Yes, yes, not funny,” Xia Yiwan knew he was a traditional and stubborn person and that he definitely wouldn’t want to take the first shower, “You change clothes first.”
The man humd lowly in response.
Xia Yiwan went into the room to get a change of clothes and headed to the bathroom.
Once inside, just as she was about to take off her wet clothes, she suddenly rembered she hadn’t asked for a towel, so she quickly opened the bathroom door and stepped out.
“Brother Hengnian, your towel…”
She hadn’t finished speaking when suddenly she caught sight of a scene in the living room, and her breath hitched abruptly.
Clearly not expecting her to co out so quickly, the man had already taken off his shirt.
Which is to say, Zhou Hengnian was now bare-chested. He and Yanxi were completely different types, Yanxi hadn’t dabbled in drugs before, and was a beautiful and bewitching young noble with fair skin and evenly distributed muscles, every part of him delicate and elegant, while Zhou Hengnian was a rugged and handsoly coarse tough guy, his bulging muscles pronounced, the type bursting with hormonal presence.
When he was clothed, Xia Yiwan knew his physique was exceptionally good.
But now, with his shirt off, wearing just a pair of black pants, his chest broad and solid, a clear six-pack of abs, with the V-lines trailing along the waistband of his pants.
Xia Yiwan’s lashes fluttered, and she quickly averted her gaze, tossing the towel onto the sofa before rushing back into the bathroom.
As the door closed behind her, her sowhat flustered voice ca through, “Sorry, I didn’t an to look.”
Zhou Hengnian raised his long finger, pressing down on the pounding temple.
About an hour later, Xia Yiwan finally ca out of the bathroom.
“Brother Hengnian, you’ve changed clothes, right? I’m coming out now!”
A hint of helplessness flashed in Zhou Hengnian’s deep eyes, “I’ve changed, co on out!”
After taking a deep breath, Xia Yiwan entered the living room.
Zhou Hengnian had already changed into the shirt and pants she had given him.
She seldom saw him in a white shirt, he usually wore a black T-shirt or a tactical jacket.
It must be said, he looked a different kind of handso dressed like this.
Zhou Hengnian sat on the sofa, his long legs slightly spread, his arrogant and unrestrained posture not at all out of place on him.
Xia Yiwan sat on the sofa opposite him, “Thank you for tonight.”
If it hadn’t been for him, she and Yaoyao would definitely have been unable to restrain Yanxi when his craving for cigarettes kicked in.
“It’s nothing.” Zhou Hengnian played with the silver lighter in his hand, then after a mont of silence he said, “You’ve almost settled your issues here, and your ex-husband knows the truth now, I think he won’t hurt you anymore.”
This was probably the longest sentence Xia Yiwan had heard Zhou Hengnian say since she t him.
Xia Yiwan faintly sensed sothing amiss in his words, her delicate brows knitted, “And then?”
“I’m leaving.”
Xia Yiwan was stunned.
For the over a year since she had co to her senses, apart from when he was busy with work, he had always been by her side, protecting her whenever he could.
She seed to have grown accustod to his presence.
She also realized that when he ntioned leaving this ti, he ant he wouldn’t co looking for her anymore.
Xia Yiwan bit her lip, burying the heaviness in her heart, and raised the corners of her lips in a smile, “Is it because work is getting busy?”
Until now, she still didn’t know what he did for work.
Quite mysterious.
Zhou Hengnian humd lowly in response.
“Then, can I co to find you when I have ti?”
Complexity flashed in Zhou Hengnian’s deep eyes and, after a mont, he shook his head, “If I have ti, I’ll co to find you.”
He stood up, patted Xia Yiwan’s shoulder, “Take care.”
