"You want to do what?" Scarlet questioned.
"You heard the first ti," said Inez.
Her fingers tightened around the glass of orange juice that she was holding. Inez looked at her sister, whom she had invited to the Blood Hill Pack despite the dangers and risks of being traced down by Dominic. But the answers about the past of her mother and father were important. She needed to know sothing, anything, about the past of Maria Sinclair.
Her sister frowned. Scarlet looked different; she had cut her red hair into a bob cut, and there were many scars on her arms and the back of her hands, sothing that was hard to ignore, as Inez knew that Scarlet, who was a healer, had no reason to be training in the pack ground. However, Scarlet had made her stance clear that she didn’t want to talk about the scars and wounds on her body, leaving her no other choice but to stay silent and not broach the subject.
The thought of her suffering under Dominic because of her stabbed through Inez like silver.
"Don’t think too much," said Scarlet as she sipped on her milkshake. As if getting injured so heavily were sothing that could happen every now and then. "I am fine. This is sothing that I want to do; I don’t want to be used and treated like the pack’s punching bag anymore." She paused and then added, "But that is not important. You say that mom was a dominant shifter before being cursed into being an oga?"
"I know it’s hard to believe, but I am speaking the truth. I—"
"I never said that I don’t believe you." Scarlet raised her hand and interrupted Inez. "You know, I have always wondered how she gave birth to a half-blood when she was an oga and your father was supposedly a human? However, I am not that clear about how human blood works, so I never questioned it, but if we go by your theory, then there is a perfect answer for that question. Mom was never an oga to begin with. That answers my questions regarding your blood status."
"So you believe ?" Inez questioned, sounding awed and in response, Scarlet simply shrugged.
"We always knew that there was sothing weird about our mother, Nessie," she remarked while playing with the straw of her milkshake. "You and I can always play it off by saying that it was nothing serious. But you know it and I know it too. There has always been so sick, personal grudge that she holds against you, and it’s not just because you are a siren. There is more to the story, and we are finally close to getting an answer for that."
Indeed, thought Inez.
Scarlet then looked around the lodge and asked, "I didn’t see your big, bad alpha when I arrived at the territory."
"Neither did I," sighed Inez as she picked up the glass of orange juice. After finding out that a shifter was kidnapped off the territory and used as a vessel by the witches, Killian had been investigating the missing shifters of the territory and guess what? There were more than fifteen male shifters, three female shifters and an elderly lycan was missing. Lycans of all ages and genders were taken away, and yet it happened so slickly that no one noticed anything amiss. Because of this, Killian was so busy that Inez only saw him a few tis.
The man woke up before dawn broke and returned when Inez was already asleep. There were tis when Inez tried to stay awake, but she just couldn’t.
"Is he busy with the disappearances of shifters?" asked Scarlet with a knowing look.
Inez’s brows furrowed. "How do you know that?"
"Because Dominic is busy with the sa," Scarlet sighed and recounted what happened with the tiger shifter in the pack. "It’s a bedlam. You have no idea how many strong and rare shifters went missing when Dominic’s head was stuck up his arse after your disappearance. Many of the elders are thoroughly upset with Dominic, but he put an end to their complaint after he killed the candidate whom the elders chose for the alpha position."
"Soone challenged Dominic?" Inez was surprised. As much as she hated Dominic for rejecting and hurting her, she knew and admired the strength of that wolf.
You don’t need to. He is an arsehole through and through; that’s what he is—think about your wolf and shove that admiration off the edge of a cliff, please.
I never said that I admire him; I said that I admire his strength. He has one strong wolf. Inez rolled her eyes and corrected her siren. The admiration that she had for Dominic had nothing to do with him but his wolf.
His wolf is a part of him.
We can always think of the two as separate. His wolf is a darling, unlike him. Inez snorted, recalling the brief eting that she had with Dominic’s wolf. Back then, she didn’t know that they were mates, but Dominic’s wolf must have sensed sothing because he was quite nice to her.
"As hard as it is to believe. It’s the truth," said Scarlet with a hint of amusent in her tone. "However, that battle put an end to many of the complaints that had risen against Dominic. He proved that there was no better alpha of the Venus Pack than him. However, that doesn’t change the fact that there were many shifters who went missing right under his nose. The elders are still grumbling due to this. We have no idea what is happening—or whatever the witches were trying to do by sending the corpse of the tiger shifter back."
Inez hesitated after hearing the words of her sister. Realising the hesitation of her sister, Scarlet narrowed her green eyes. "You know sothing?"
"I won’t say that I know sothing... It’s just sothing that I saw a few days ago." Inez didn’t know how to tell Scarlet about the mutilated form that she had seen a few days ago. Though they found the family of the shifter who died, it did little to elevate the gloom and sorrow around the pack. When she thought about how three of the missing shifters were Scarlet’s friends and one of the males was her ex-partner, she went around with for quite so ti, Inez felt that she would be doing a disservice by letting Scarlet know of the twisted experint that the witches have co up with.
She found out about it three days ago, and till today she felt sickened to her guts. She wondered how Scarlet would feel if she were to find out the truth?
