Inez could see it. The confusion dawning on Dominic’s face as soon as he saw Tracy. He looked at her before turning to look around. Of course, he couldn’t see her. This was sothing she was sure of, but the second, the man’s gaze paused in the direction where she was hiding, and Inez couldn’t help but feel a chill climb up her spine, and she huddled even closer to Tracy, making sure not to crunch any dried leaves under her feet.
"You—who are you?" Dominic asked. His blue eyes darted left and right before settling back on Tracy. He seed oh so confused; Inez would have laughed at his expression if not for the situation they were tangled in at the mont.
"? I should be asking this question of you," snapped Tracy. With a quirk of one brow, she huffed, "Chasing after like you want to do sothing unspeakable at the dead of the night. Do you even know how scared I was?"
She sounded anything but scared. Inez wanted to remind Tracy to be a bit more careful with her acting if that was what she wanted to do, but then again, asking Tracy to act scared was similar to asking a lion to lower its head in front of a rabbit.
"It was you?" Dominic asked. The furrow between his brows getting even deeper. It was clear that he didn’t believe a thing that Tracy was telling him, but he also didn’t have any proof to contradict her.
"Of course it was ! Who else do you think it was? Do you see anyone else around here?" Tracy questioned with a roll of her eyes. "You better tell why you were chasing after , or I will file a complaint with the police against you." She paused and frowned harder. "Or are you a wolf? Should I be calling the council for the trouble that you have given ? I don’t care if you are a shifter or human. Chasing a woman in the middle of the night is a really serious cri."
Before Dominic could say anything, Tao ca rushing as if his life depended on it and ca to a stop right next to him. He was panting hard, and his face was flushed red to his neck. With his hand resting on Dominic’s shoulder, he raised his head and looked at Tracy before saying to her, "My apologies, miss. I am really sorry about this; he just made a mistake and nothing else. I hope you will forgive him for that."
"Mistake? You call chasing a woman a mistake?" Tracy questioned angrily. Passion rose in her tone as she glared at the two n in front of her. "You really are the scummiest scums I have seen."
"No! That’s not what I an—I ant to say that he mistook you for soone else," Tao anded almost instantly. "I am really sorry that it caused you trouble, but my friend here didn’t an it. I swear—he is an alpha of a territory; he will never do sothing as despicable as chasing after won. It was just an honest mistake."
Tracy scoffed. She glared at the two of them, making sure her eyes were dripping with disdain. "Of course, it’s a mistake. You are lucky that I don’t want to engage myself with shifters, or else I would have hauled your asses to the council."
She turned around on her feet and started walking away; Inez, realising that it was her cue, too, turned around and chased after the woman.
"Wait."
However, the two of them didn’t even take more than ten steps when Dominic suddenly called them. Inez stiffened. She raised her head and turned to look at the man who was still standing on the top of the slope and staring at them. Because they were standing a bit far away, Inez couldn’t see who the man was looking at. Was it her? Was it Tracy? Did the spell fail? Could he see her now?
You are being too paranoid. If he could see you, he would not be standing on top of the slope. He would be running down.
Her siren’s words did little to soothe the emotions that were running high and wild within her heart. She knew that Dominic would have totally tackled her to the ground if he had seen her; his earlier montum was enough proof of that. However, she still felt worried. Maybe the paranoia from the past was getting to her.
"What?" While she was nothing but the reflection of her worries and terror, Tracy was still calm. She turned and looked at Dominic with a slow, elegant turn. Her brows quirked up as she questioned, "What do you want to say now?"
Dominic stared at the woman in front of him. She, for so reason, gave off a scent that was too strange. It felt weird. She slled like she was a human, but at the sa ti, the scent that ca off her was way too off to be just called human. He knew that the woman was not a human. At least she wasn’t purely human.
However, he knew that asking that question would only make the woman even more pissed off.
"I am sorry," though Dominic had a feeling that he truly saw Inez, he still lowered his stance and apologised to the woman in front of him. "I truly took you for soone else and didn’t an to offend you."
"Alright." Tracy didn’t bother with the two of them and walked away.
Tao waited for the woman to leave before whipping his head to the side. "What the hell, dude? Have you lost your fucking mind?"
"Why did you run after that woman for no reason? You are fucking lucky that she didn’t make a ss of this situation. If she were one of the zealots, I swear to the Moon Goddess, we would have been in a hell of a lot of trouble."
Dominic was still staring at the spot where Tracy was standing. "I swear I saw Inez—at least I think I did."
