Shortly after a few conversations with Theodore, the latter offered Xu Feng so compensation.
"I can see that you're probably a new pet owner, so here's a guidebook as well as the Registration Link. Consider it as compensation for my negligence to allow such an incident to happen to you." Theodore said and handed it to Xu Feng.
The guidebook was a basic knowledge of the Pet Association, but even then, it still cost 1 silver coin.
As for the Registration Link, it was an item sold exclusively by the Pet Association. When used, there would be an intangible mana link between the owner and the pet.
The Registration Link itself cost 5 silver coins and it had to be renewed every half a year. This was their sche and thod to continuously earn money by forcing the owner to repeatedly pay to maintain the link.
Not one to act humble, Xu Feng swiftly accepted the items. "No worries, you have already kicked out the troublemakers. As for your niece… I think she just interacted with the wrong people."
"What do you an?" Annoyed, Lara wanted to curse at him but sensed a foreboding danger from the side. Without anyone to remind her, she knew it was definitely her uncle glaring at her.
"Y-Yes, I will learn to befriend better people in the future." She changed her wording, albeit with great reluctance.
Since she still wanted a pet for herself, then she couldn't get on Theodore's bad side anymore. Otherwise, she might get kicked out just like her friends did. Your journey continues with empire
Satisfied, Xu Feng nodded his head.
"I'm glad you realized you're wrong. You should really stop making your uncle worry for you." He comnted, feigning ignorance of her glare.
"Alright, I won't trouble you much further," Theodore suddenly said, turned around and walked away.
Lara gave one final fierce glare at Xu Feng before following her uncle.
Shortly after, the two were in the office and Lara quickly asked, "Uncle, why did you give those two items to him? Especially the Registration Link. They need to do many procedures and provide a lot of information before they can get one."
Exasperated, Theodore leaned back on his chair and said, "You have just returned to Paradise Plains from your trip. So I guess you haven't heard of the competition."
"The Profession competition?" Lara was taken aback at the ntion of the competition. "Isn't that a competition held every once in a while? It's just a thod to continuously find new blood and open the city to outsiders."
As a person born in Paradise Plains, she naturally didn't have any restrictions like many others who had to enter the competition either as participants or spectators.
That was the only ti Paradise Plains would open its door to many people.
As for how many could remain and earn the qualification to stay or be permitted to travel in the future. That would be determined by the visitors' capabilities.
Looking at her niece's reaction, Theodore sighed and put on a screen display.
As the screen displayed the competition, Lara initially didn't pay much attention until she noticed the famous blacksmith, Yaren, questioning contestant number 69.
"Huh? Isn't that person…" Astonished, Lara was startled by the person's appearance.
"Yes, that person is Lin Feng, and the one that your group of unruly friends were trying to make trouble with." Theodore snorted.
It was a good thing that he kept up with the latest news and trend, unlike so old fogeys who remained shut-in. Otherwise, who knew how much trouble was going to land in their Pet Association.
However, Lara beca more confused and inquired, "He's just a contestant then. What's there to fear about him?"
In her opinion, contestants were basically people who were trying to compete for qualifications to remain in the city. They were inferior to her status overall.
And so what if the contestants had any background?
None of those backgrounds would dare to even cause trouble at Paradise Plains, much less offend any of the natives or those with actual power within the city.
"This is why I tell you to be informative at all tis." Theodore sighed softly.
"Did you think I would apologize and give such compensation if Lin Feng was just a simple contestant?"
"He got connections with the higher-ups in Paradise Plains?"
Other than that, Lara couldn't comprehend why her uncle would be so wary of a contestant.
"It's a good thing you have this uncle protecting you, otherwise, who knows when you will get killed in so dark alley." Theodore rolled his eyes.
"Everyone knows about Yaren's personality, but sohow, Lin Feng not only managed to converse with her on the sa level, he also managed to gain so of her favor.
"Converse on the sa level?" Startled, Lara's eye sockets looked as if they were going to pop out. "Elder Yaren is scary and eccentric. I don't even dare to be alone in the sa room as her."
"Not only that, but it was revealed Yaren had assigned the two contestants to venture into the Abyssal Rift. It's been two days since then and Lin Feng has returned to Paradise Plains. What does that an?" Theodore questioned, seemingly wanting her to figure out the clues herself and co up with a conjecture.
Although the possibility of Lin Feng failing was extrely high, Theodore dared not risk gambling that small percentage.
Most of the ti, people t their ends because they gambled that small percentage, resulting in their clan or whole ancestry being destroyed.
And the cause of it all?
It was always those seemingly ordinary people without backgrounds who did it.
He did not wish to beco one of the unlucky idiots who provoked such people. After all, he could enjoy life with his current status and prestige with the Pet Association as his support.
"I understand your concern now, Uncle." Lara sighed softly, deciding not to provoke Xu Feng any further.
Whenever her Uncle warned her to not do sothing, it was usually out of his intuition. These intuitions of him were rarely wrong.
'I'll have to warn Kiara and Chris to not get revenge secretly.' She thought to herself.
