Reincarnation in the 60s: My Spatial Supermarket Brings Forth Wealth Chapter 347 - 345: Staying the Night
"Who are you?" A little toddler ran out, looking at Lin Xue, curiously examining her, "What a beautiful big sister!"
"Little sister, are there any adults at ho?" Lin Xue squatted down because the little toddler was too small. She had to squat down to be at eye level with her.
"Xiaomao, who is it?" At this mont, a woman in her thirties ca out from inside, wearing patchy clothes that had lost their color from washing.
"Hello, comrade! I’m from Capital City, passing by here, and it’s getting dark, so... I’d like to borrow lodging for a night! Do you think... it’s convenient?" Lin Xue expressed her request.
Whenever they went out, Lin Xue was the one to communicate with people, and Zhang Yuan only needed to take good care of his wife.
Qian Guirong looked at their clothes and appearance. They looked like wealthy people, and the two young people were good-looking. They shouldn’t be scamrs, right?
"Well, it’s okay... but there’s nothing much to eat at ho... if you don’t mind, you can eat with us!"
Lin Xue looked at her attire and knew the family was definitely not wealthy. However, she didn’t like eating coarse grains and such, so she waved her hand.
"Big sister, we’re just borrowing lodging. We brought our own dry food, so you don’t have to worry about feeding us!" Saying this, she pointed outside to their car, "We drove ourselves, so we’ve brought food and drinks!"
"Alright then! You wait a mont! I’ll tidy up a room for you! It’s my younger brother-in-law’s room; he’s out working, not at ho. You can stay there tonight!"
Qian Guirong quickly grabbed a broom and went to tidy up. Not long after, she tidied up and walked out a bit awkwardly.
"Comrade, well... did you bring your own luggage? My younger brother-in-law took his own luggage with him. There’s nothing extra at ho!"
Lin Xue nodded quickly, "Yes, yes, yes! Thank you, big sister! We’ll go get our luggage right away!"
Although she said they’d get the luggage, Zhang Yuan wouldn’t let her carry things! He ran to the car, then got in. From the space, he quickly took out a set of luggage and also brought back so of the food from the trunk.
To divert attention, his wife couldn’t possibly eat those dry, hard biscuits. The jerky that her mother packed had long been eaten. What’s left were not homade biscuits but so pastries.
Qian Guirong didn’t bother with them anymore and went back inside.
The two of them made the bed and hadn’t been sitting long before they heard many footsteps outside the courtyard gate, accompanied by sighs.
"Dad, what are we going to do? The commune isn’t distributing relief grain, and the villagers are about to have nothing to cook! The old Li family has already run out of food, and the baby is crying terribly! I reckon if no relief grain cos, they might not survive!" A man’s voice, though sounding quite young, was weak and clearly hungry, accompanied the sighs.
"What can we do! I’ve been to talk many tis, but the commune secretary said that it still hasn’t been distributed from above! We common folks have no money! Otherwise, grain can still be bought at the grain station!" An older voice followed and said.
The blind old lady sitting at the doorway also stood up, "Son, you didn’t find anything again?" Her hand holding the cane was still trembling.
"Mom, why are you sitting at the courtyard gate again? The spring wind is strong, be careful not to catch a cold!" The man initially called Dad spoke.
Lin Xue couldn’t hold back and leaned at the window to look. She saw a large family of n and won at the courtyard gate, seemingly all out searching for food.
However, their faces showed disappointnt, suggesting they hadn’t found anything.
"Grandma! Let carry you in! Why doesn’t Guirong look after you? Co on! Your eldest grandson will carry you!" The family’s eldest son, the young man who just complained about the commune, squatted down.
His father helped him lift the elder onto his back and headed inside.
"Guirong has no ti! Don’t criticize my granddaughter-in-law! The children are making a fuss, saying they’re hungry! I had Guirong open all our pillows. There should be so buckwheat husks with leftover uncrushed buckwheat!" The old lady spoke proudly, even though she couldn’t see, her face full of pride. "Let tell you all! Tear open all the pillows; maybe we’ll have a al of buckwheat porridge!"
The old lady spoke proudly, and others listened with bright eyes. The youngest granddaughter, Qi Feifei, asked, "Grandma, really?"
"Of course it’s true!" The old lady, on her eldest grandson’s back, turned toward the young girl following the sound.
"Great, I’ll go help sister-in-law!" Saying this, she hopped inside.
"This child, not hungry anymore, is she?" Mrs. Qi shook her head powerlessly.
Qi Family had three sons and one daughter. Only the eldest son was married, with two children, one three and a half years old, and the other only eight months.
Two sons went out to find work, leaving a blind grandmother, an old couple, a young couple, and the youngest daughter, only thirteen.
Hearing noise, Qian Guirong hurried out, opened the door for her husband, "Leizi, didn’t find any food?"
She asked with a face full of disappointnt. There was only about half a pound of millet left at ho. Adults wouldn’t eat it, only making thin porridge for the two kids.
Because she couldn’t eat well, she’d long stopped producing milk. The eight-month-old, with only four teeth, also had to drink thin millet porridge with his sister, crying with hunger every day.
Qi Lei shook his head, "No! Sigh! Let’s put grandma on the bed first!"
Then he carried the elder inside.
The whole family followed behind, the little girl Qi Fei had already taken over her sister-in-law’s task, starting to search through the buckwheat husks.
Nothing could be found; they were almost gnawing on tree roots now. Who would leave grain inside husks?
"Leizi... there are two people borrowing lodging at ho! I took the liberty of tidying Chengzi’s room for them!" Once Qi Lei put the old lady down, Qian Guirong, with a bit of concern, pulled him aside and whispered.
"Why did you keep strangers at ho? Don’t you know there’s no food at ho? How can we entertain guests?" Qi Lei seed a bit disapproving, whispering to his wife.
"They don’t eat at ho; they say they brought dry food with them, just borrowing lodging for a night because it’s getting dark!" Upon hearing her husband, Qian Guirong quickly explained that they wouldn’t eat at ho.
"How can this be... don’t you know the saying, ’guests at the door are to be treated well’?" Qi Lei blad his wife for not understanding courtesy.
"But there’s only a little millet left at ho, saved for our son!" Qian Guirong was on the verge of tears.
As the young couple whispered, Mr. Qi turned and gave his wife a look.
Mrs. Qi understood imdiately and asked, "What are you two talking about?"
Frightened, Qian Guirong turned around with red eyes, starting to babble, "Mom, I’m sorry, it’s my fault! I shouldn’t have let strangers lodge here! I... I... they said they wouldn’t eat here, so I let them stay!"
Qi Lei couldn’t stop her; this foolish wife just blurted it out.
"What? Guests are here? Why didn’t you say so earlier?" Mr. Qi asked urgently, "Where are they?"
"In... in Chengzi’s room!" Qian Guirong pointed outside.
