Everything was going quite smoothly. Lin Xue had already prepared the ingredients for making pickles.

But sothing ca up on Wang Jianjun’s side; he had originally arranged everything with the top managent.

The top managent readily agreed, as the drought was giving them headaches. It was a good thing that their brigade could resolve a few issues on their own.

However, when it ca ti to inform the community mbers, so of them kicked up a fuss, saying they couldn’t abandon so much good farmland, otherwise there wouldn’t be enough room to bury the starving bodies in the hills during winter.

Wang Jianjun brought out Lin Xue’s theory of "letting go," but so people just wouldn’t listen and stord Lin Xue’s doorstep.

They hurled insults like "troublemaker," "wastrel," and the like.

When this group arrived at the door, Lin Xue had just returned from town, where she went to deliver supplies to Grandma Chen, which she hadn’t done for more than a month.

The elderly woman had been eagerly waiting, so they chatted for a while.

When she arrived ho and saw this scene, she was at her wits’ end, angered by these people’s ignorance and foolishness.

"Xiao Xue, I’m sorry! This is all because of . These ungrateful folks; I didn’t expect them to co here to make a fuss! You are trying to save them, yet they are so ungrateful!" Wang Jianjun hastily apologized as soon as he saw Lin Xue return.

"Leader, what do you an saving us? She’s clearly dooming us to starve!" A sixty-sothing old man pointed accusingly at Lin Xue’s nose.

Two brothers rushed forward regardless of whether the old man was young or old, pushing him out and glaring at him angrily, warning:

"Step back!"

"Who are you talking to, you little brat?" the old man directed his finger at Lin Chuan.

At this mont, Lin Xia and Lin Shuang had already moved behind their eldest sister to protect her.

Lin Yun was tending to the kids with Grandma, while Wang Cuihua stood anxiously beside, at a loss.

Seeing this old man acting aggressively, Lin Xue decided not to stand by any longer.

She pulled her two younger brothers back and stood forth herself, raising her arm and shouting loudly,

"Everyone, quiet down! If you have any questions, listen to !"

Though the community mbers were emotionally charged, Lin Xue’s shout had so penetrative power, quieting them inexplicably.

"Listen to , I won’t say much, as I’m sure the leader has told you already; I’m just telling you, given the current situation, if we don’t abandon half the land, it might all dry up, and at that point, we really will starve! But if we keep half and abandon half, there’s a chance we can harvest so crops, and although it might not be enough to fill our bellies, we can at least have so porridge and greens to survive!" Lin Xue lowered her hand, shouting loudly.

But her reasoning was futile. The leader rushed forward to shield Lin Xue, whispering to her,

"Girl, I’ve said it too; these people won’t listen and keep causing trouble!"

"What did the higher-ups say? Have they agreed to let us do so?" Lin Xue asked him softly as well.

"Yes! The higher-ups have agreed, and if the pickles are made properly, they’ll even pay for them." The leader inford her.

"Alright, I have an idea. Let’s see if these people go along with it!" Lin Xue nodded, then turned to face the crowd.

"Folks, that half of the land is too far from the river, which is why we’re giving it up, but you can use your break ti to water the fields. If you can save it, it’s yours! Special tis call for special asures! As long as you don’t cause any trouble or delay regular work, you can do this!"

Lin Xue herself didn’t fully agree with the collective system. Assigning land to individuals might require more effort than collective labor.

The higher-ups had already agreed to let them abandon the grains, so they likely wouldn’t intervene or have ti for these matters.

If they can save a bit of grain, that would be great; she was willing to do this.

Giving the land to individuals might indeed save the crops, as the food is their livelihood, after all.

"Really?"

"Is what you’re saying true? Can the grain really be given to individuals?"

Everyone started buzzing with discussion, expressing disbelief.

So, Lin Xue nodded to the leader and whispered sothing in his ear.

Instantly, the leader’s eyes lit up. Although they couldn’t openly distribute, they could do so covertly. Those wanting land couldn’t spread the word, so even if they couldn’t save everything, they could still bring in so grain. As long as no one starved, it was good.

Busily running back and forth, he managed the community mbers to do their work diligently while also organizing the people for making pickles. He also watched how the abandoned land was being divided among the folks.

An elderly man was so occupied that he couldn’t juggle the tasks anymore.

Finally, Lin Xue couldn’t stand it and suggested he get a few trustworthy young people to act as small team leaders to manage these parts. They’d be willing to do it for extra points, as being in charge, however small, is still a position.

Lin Xue had already started her pickle business, leading won assigned by the team leader to pick, wash, and marinate vegetables, keeping her extrely busy.

Though there were ten acres, they couldn’t pick too many at once because they still had to supply the supply and marketing cooperative.

Every day, she was busy until very late, and this day, she was utterly exhausted and only returned ho at dusk.

Upon entering, she found Wang Xiaoping with her daughter Sun Lili sitting at ho, chatting happily, and noticed her mother and grandmother didn’t look pleased.

"Why are they here again?" Lin Xue quietly asked Lin Yun beside her.

"They’ve been here all afternoon, refusing to leave, calling grandma ’Mom’," Lin Yun replied softly.

"Xiao Xue, you’re back! Tired? Mom’s heated so water for you, go wash up so you can sleep more comfortably later!" Wang Cuihua rushed to help her eldest daughter with the water.

The two of them went to the washroom, and Lin Xue whispered a few words in Wang Cuihua’s ear.

"Alright! Mom knows!" Wang Cuihua nodded eagerly.

Wang Xiaoping was peculiar, frequently coming by and always staying for als, which she had beco accustod to. Their family’s als were typically good, so she preferred not to eat bland porridge and mixed bread, often dropping by. She used to ti her visits at al tis, but now she seated herself and waited for als.

"Xiao Yun, Xiao Xia, Xiao Shuang, go wash up, and get ready for bed. Xiao Shan! Why aren’t you two boys asleep yet? It’s dark already!" Wang Cuihua ca out acting as though she had just noticed the kids staying up, scolding with a stern expression.

The kids were initially confused, wondering how they could sleep when they were waiting for their eldest sister to have dinner. But they weren’t foolish; having seen their mom go in with their big sister, it certainly reflected their eldest sister’s intentions, so they got up.

"We’re going to sleep. We got so tired waiting for big sister that we lost track of ti! So sleepy!" Lin Xia yawned as she headed to the room, skipping the washing.

"Yeah! Big sister’s back; let’s hurry to bed!" Lin Chuan also yawned like his third sister, dragging his brother along back with him.

The little ones went to their rooms, while across the way, Wang Xiaoping, sitting beside Bai Xianglan, had been keeping an eye on them and noticed early on.

Her expression soured, having waited hungrily for so long. The aroma from the kitchen had reached her, so why was her sister-in-law still pretending?
