Just as Welner was thinking this, Max suddenly knocked and entered the room. Welner frowned as he saw the displeased expression on Max’s face, for he had left Max in charge of the Zeavert Corps that was camped outside the city for the night, and wondered if sothing had gone wrong there.

Max spoke with a bitter look on his face.

“Welner-sama, there is soone who insists on eting with you.” (Max)

“?” (Welner)

“Yes.” (Max)

Welner looked confused. Max would not have looked uncomfortable if the person had rely co to see him. Moreover, if that person were a mber of an association or an influential person in the city, he would have gone to Earl Harfolk.

If it was a rchant with a strong business spirit, Max would not have bothered to bring it up to Welner, which ant… Welner nodded as if he understood. He realized that there was one person whose position far exceeded his that might do this.

“Okay, I’ll see him.” (Welner)

“Is it alright to bring them here?” (Max)

“Yes, it’s a hassle, but I’d rather deal with this quickly.” (Welner)

“Yes, sir.” (Max)

Max exited the room and soon brought two people into the room, causing Welner’s internal discomfort gauge to spike as he realized the reason for the uncomfortable expression on Max’s face. He called out to the two, trying not to let his displeasure show.

“I believe Sir and I have never t before, but what do you want from ?” (Welner)

“Ha, yes. I am eting His Excellency the Viscount for the first ti. My na is Gid, and I have been the deputy in charge of the Foan city.” (Gid)

Neurath and Schunzel glanced sharply at the other party’s face, who identified himself as Gid, with an expressionless look.

“Well, when you didn’t show up, I thought for sure you had run away.” (Welner)

“No, no, I don’t think the Coltrezis House would have forgiven if I ran away…” (Gid)

Welner couldn’t help but agree inwardly. In this muscle-brained world, there were not many examples of cities with stone walls falling in a single day, unless they surrendered before the battle was fought.

It was understandable that even if they managed to escape back to territory under Coltrezis House’s control, they would be punished severely.

On the other hand, from the perspective of the Kingdom Army, he was undoubtedly a subordinate of the Coltrezis House, and he was the deputy who oversaw the Foan city. He could even be called a vassal of Coltrezis House.

If he and his subordinates had opened the city gate unconditionally, things would have been different, but since they only surrendered after the city was occupied, it was inevitable that they would be treated as criminals by the Kingdom Army.

However, Welner doubted that it was all there was to it. He believed that they must have tried to escape with their possessions. The occupation of the city must have been too fast for them to escape, so they only had ti to hide sowhere.

“So, are you asking to give you permission to surrender? I think you should ask Earl Harfolk regarding that.” (Welner)

“I would like to know if the Viscount would be so kind as to offer his word regarding this matter.” (Gid)

“I see no reason why I should make such an offer to you, Sir.” (Welner)

“Well, about that…” (Gid)

Gid looked at his companion. The girl, who remained slumped, took a step forward. She was probably younger than Welner in age.

“Her na is Annika, my daughter, and I was wondering if you would be willing to let her serve at Viscount Zeavert’s side.” (Gid)

“I think she is indeed of a certain age, but I believe soone like her would already have a partner, right?” (Welner)
