[Night Terror: Did you make a mistake? Yes. Was it entirely your mistake? No. Stop blaming only yourself — because those who died made the sa one.]

[Purple Divinity: Believe , you did your best, and that’s enough. Also, you saved the saintess, right?]

[My Uncle: I have seen many people dying without the power to help them. It’s hard, I know. But you have to look at yourself in the mirror. That’s not a face a kid like you should have.]

[The Naless King: You finally have seen the abyss! It’s nowhere and everywhere at the sa ti. You will understand soday.]

[The 40th Season Winner: If you don’t want more people to die then just focus on the present... don’t repeat my mistake.]

"Haah..." I sighed as I began to rub my head.

Braham said the sa, Celestina said the sa, Master Kai said the sa, and now the ssages except the naless king are saying the sa.

I wondered what everywhere and nowhere ant. Was the abyss actually a conceptual realm? Or maybe it had many paths that lead to it.

I ignored the ssages and shifted my attention to the gifts.

I got only one gift from night terror which was a potion for my darkness affinity.

Imdiately, I chose it and the soul freezer, ignoring the water storage for now.

Master Kai found the mana cleaner earlier and made Nora make so water for us, so it wasn’t a problem anymore.

2 items appeared in front of . The first was a small vial containing a black liquid.

The second item was a white lantern the sa size as my body, leaking a chilling mist from its inside with many blue and white runes covering it.

In the top, there was a small hole that was probably the place where I would put the soul essence to activate it.

I tried to store the freezer in my abyssal pocket, and fortunately, it worked. Then I took the vial and opened it.

I didn’t know if it would work with my new darkness, but I had to try anyway.

Imdiately, I drank the potion in one gulp and closed my eyes, feeling the tasteless liquid moving through my throat into my stomach.

My vision suddenly turned into darkness, then chilling voices echoed in my mind. A mont later, my vision returned and the voices stopped completely.

I moved the darkness around my body, feeling more comfortable using it.

I sighed in relief. ’Fortunately, it worked.’

I stood up and went to sit beside master Kai, who was absorbing an aura core.

Looking at the red sky, I wondered: ’...How many of us will die this ti...?’

I didn’t know the answer, and I was scared of knowing it.

I was really tired of seeing people dying.

•••

"It will start now." Master Kai announced as my grip on my new sword tightened.

The gates at the end of the island started glowing brightly as we watched them from above the wall.

My eyes landed on the people behind .

They were Celestina, master Kai, Lily, and Alden.

We got divided into 4 teams, one on each side of the stronghold. Each team had 5 mbers except one.

I turned around, far away, Cecil was standing behind Long Wei.

Long Wei said that he will stay with Cecil, to keep watching him closely to not... kill anyone else.

Master Kai suddenly rubbed my hair. "Focus in the front. Don’t think too much."

"What? I—"

"—Don’t argue, your face is easy to read."

I opened my mouth to say sothing, but suddenly—

"GrAaAaH!"

A terrifying growl echoed through the air. We looked at the gates and saw a monster moving out of it.

A humanoid monster with brown skin and green lines covering its body. It had no eyes with an opened mouth showing its sharp teeth.

It moved forward, step by step, growling loudly with the claws on its long arms leaving marks on the red snow.

One by one, more monsters with the sa features erged out of the portals.

*Tik!*

A loud sound echoed through the entire island.

I looked up and found a huge blue clock with a number floating beside it.

[9:55]

"It’s about surviving, not clearing. Makes sense now." Lily said as she drew an arrow and aid at one of the monsters.

The arrow got covered in a green poison aura, then she launched the arrow.

The arrow hit the monster in the head and killed it imdiately without resistance.

"Weak Tier 1. But this is only the first wave."

For the next few minutes, we easily slaughtered all the monsters.

And using my soul in the parrot form, I captured many of their souls in my abyssal storage.

The monsters that passed through my attacks and Lily arrows died due to the traps.

It was too easy, but I couldn’t let my guard down.

Whoever made this place was having fun making us suffer, which was the opposite of making it "easy".

*Tak!*

I looked at the sky, and saw the tir reaching 00:00.

The portals stopped gleaming, and the remaining monsters fell lifelessly.

That proved the point of the challenge being only about surviving.

However, instead of celebrating, a feeling of unease filled us.

"Alden, go check the other teams."

"Yes, Kaito."

Alden, with a shield in his left hand and a hamr in his right, left us alone to see what the others did.

After a minute, a figure erged out of the darkness, he was Drago.

He glanced at the monsters’ corpses beyond the wall and asked: "Was there any trouble? Did you know anything about the corruption crystals?"

Celestina shook her head. "No, nothing."

Drago sighed in disappointnt before rging in the darkness again.

So minutes later, Alden returned, breathing heavily.

"Haa... all of them are the sa... except one."

Our eyes widened as he continued.

"One of the monsters that Long Wei killed had a green crystal on its chest. He is keeping it with him for now..."

We understood imdiately what that ant.

It was the corruption crystal.

From what he said, the crystal seed to be easy to get. Just find the one with a crystal on its chest.

Though I didn’t know how that type of monster appeared, it shouldn’t be that hard to find.

*Tik!*

[9:59]

Suddenly, the gates started to glow again, and the tir began to count.

The second wave started.
