Honestly, the boss looked terrifying.

To Mimi, even though it was still the sa design as Amaras the Corpse King—a boss she had defeated countless tis before while farming one of the best early-ga gear sets—standing before him now, in reality, felt completely different.

Once again, fear seized her, freezing her body rigid like a block of cat-shaped ice. Her tail fluffed up, her ears flattened, and her whiskers quivered. Every instinct scread at her to jump down from Emilia’s arm and run, to turn tail and flee as freaking fastest as possible.

Sure, she had faced the terrifying gaze of a demon before, and still managed to wriggle her way out of it.

But this...

For so reason...

This Amaras was different!

It felt like... standing before death itself.

The undead gaze he gave off was as cold as frozen hell, radiating an eternal darkness. All of Mimi’s will to live, all of the aning of life, faded away.

Do we... really have a chance of defeating him?!

Will it be better... to just let him kill us?

But thankfully, Emilia’s voice snapped her out of her fear.

"Hey, Mimi. Are you ready?" the Silvervein girl asked.

Her voice was shaking too.

From the sling Emilia had made to carry her, Mimi looked up. She couldn’t see her master’s face, hidden behind the mask now.

But she knew.

Behind that mask, her master was grinning.

Of course, Emilia felt imnse fear as well. Yet for so reason, the more pressure the boss radiated, the more excited she beca.

Alright!

Mimi slapped her cheeks with her tiny paws and forced herself back into focus. Her eyes shone brightly once more as she raised a paw and commanded Flam. Dark flas ignited along Emilia’s sword, burning fiercer than before.

Yeah! If Master is that confident, then why the hell am I scared?

Mimi focused, determination surging through her.

Master Emilia is strong. She has never failed !

Earlier, Emilia had defeated five Deathguards by herself and at record speed no less. That was sothing even Mimi hadn’t thought possible.

So this ti...

This ti would be no different, right?

Right?

MASTER! I TRUST YOU! WE CAN BEAT THIS SCARY DUDE!

With that thought, Mimi’s fear faded away. In its place, excitent blood.

She couldn’t wait to see what her master would do next!

As Amaras raised his sword, an aura wave of pale light burst forth, spearing outward in expanding circles across the entire battlefield.

Wherever that wave passed, it summoned the power of the dead. Ghosts of fallen warriors rose from the earth—hundreds of them—before being drawn toward his blade, gathering around it until the sword glowed like a deadly silver star.

Behind him, the five towering pillars humd ominously.

"Miss Elise, do we still stick to the plan?" Aron asked.

"Yeah," Emilia nodded. "I’ll take the first round. When I call for a switch, you swap in imdiately. Just a few seconds will be enough."

"Roger that!"

Obviously, there was no way the two of them could defeat Amaras on their own.

But that was never the goal.

Unlike the fight against the five Deathguards, this battle was not about extermination—it was about survival. If they could hold out for five minutes, Mary would handle the rest.

She was already positioned safely on a nearby hill, hidden among rocks, her divine bow fully drawn and steadily charging with light.

According to the plan, Emilia would rely on her speed to buy as much ti as possible. When fatigue set in or danger grew too great, Aron would step in briefly to relieve her. Then they would switch back—again and again.

And if things truly went south, both of them would engage together and face Amaras head-on.

Emilia’s eyes sharpened, her focus absolute.

The Silvervein genius girl really believed she could pull it off.

Now then, Mimi wondered, what skill would Amaras use next?

As a top Arventia gar, she knew all of his stats, tricks, and patterns already. In every boss fight, his first move was always the sa: channeling the power of the dead into his sword. That part was already done.

The second move, however, was usually one of two options.

Either he would leap high into the air and crash down with a devastating area-wide strike... or he would unleash two consecutive sword slashes, sending deadly crescent waves flying outward before closing in at high speed.

Neither move should have been too difficult for Emilia to dodge. And as long as the pillars behind him remained intact, Amaras would not enter his berserk state.

Normally, to defeat Amaras, one would need to destroy all of his pillars. They were the source of his endless healing, mana regeneration, and status cleansing. However, since the group’s plan was to kill him in a single strike using the divine bow, destroying the pillars was unnecessary.

Thus, a normal Amaras should have been manageable at Emilia’s current level.

However—

"OW?!"

Mimi barely managed a squeak.

Before she could even process what was happening—

BOOM!

Amaras’s sword slamd down exactly where Emilia had been standing!

The three-ter-tall boss had descended like a teor, his massive blade crashing into the ground with terrifying force!

What?!

Teleportation?!

What the hell is going on?!

How could he be that fast?!

Just seconds ago, Amaras had been nearly two hundred ters away. And yet, in the blink of an eye, he was right in front of them.

Mimi struggled to make sense of the absurdity.

Impossible!

Teleportation was not part of his move set!

Even Emilia was caught off guard. But thank the gods, her instincts kicked in at the very last millisecond, and she barely managed to shift aside.

But Amaras did not stop.

His sword swung again imdiately, as if it had lost no montum at all after striking the earth.

A horizontal slash, aid straight at Emilia.

She had no ti to dodge.

Emilia raised her sword, bracing for impact.

CLANG!!!

Her blade shattered.

Amaras’s sword tore through it like brittle glass, and the slash continued onward, straight toward Emilia’s chest, where Mimi was.

Without hesitation, Emilia twisted her body. She shielded Mimi with her own back.

SLASH!

The blade carved into Emilia’s flesh, leaving a deep, searing wound across her back!

"Hnghh!!"

"NOOOO!!! MASTERRRRR!!!"

Mimi scread, her cry echoing with raw terror.

But Amaras was not done.

BAM!

With a single kick, he sent Emilia and Mimi flying.

Even then, Emilia tried to protect Mimi. She twisted midair, using her own body as a shield as they slamd into the nearby rocks.

As Mimi opened her eyes, still trying to make sense of what the hell had just happened, sothing ca hurtling toward them.

BOOM!

It was Aron.

He had been sent flying as well.

His body smashed into a boulder, blood spraying from his mouth as the impact knocked him unconscious. He crumpled to the ground, utterly still.

Thankfully, Emilia was still awake.

She forced herself upright, her body trembling uncontrollably, yet her arms never loosened around Mimi.

"Damn it!" Mimi cursed. "Why the hell is this boss so strong?! This is so unfair!"

From a distance, Amaras stared at them for a brief mont, unmoving.

Then—

He vanished.

"Fuck! Where did he go?!" Emilia shouted urgently. Even her eyes could no longer track him.

She braced herself, certain he was coming to finish her.

But he didn’t.

A thunderous boom echoed from afar, marking his next location.

Oh no.

Mimi’s heart lurched.

Because that direction...

...was where Mary was hiding!

****

Now, Mary—the young noble archer girl holding a replica of the Celestial Light Bow, Farael—stood directly before the Corpse King, Amaras.

As the towering figure gazed down at her, fear seized her whole.

Her will to fight evaporated.

She released the string in panic, but without a full charge, the shot was pitifully weak. Amaras caught the light arrow with one hand and crushed it like brittle candy.

"No... this can’t be..."

Mary collapsed to her knees as the divine bow disintegrated into particles of light and drifted away.

"I’m sorry... Miss Elise... please, get away..."

Amaras extended his hand to seize her.

But Mary didn’t even try to flee.

This boss... he was too strong.

And before such absolute power, there had never been any hope of victory to begin with.
