Chapter 84: The Nest
Caius’s POV
In the end, I spent the entire day sitting on the garden bench staring at the spot where that person disappeared, while my sensation flooded the entire surrounding space, ready for anything unnatural that might happen.
The city residents passed by
and shot
strange looks... perhaps they are thinking, why is this handso guy sitting here all day?
Even the security elents ca to check the place; in fact, they suspected , but when I showed them my card and told them what I was doing here, they went and left
alone.
I raised my head and looked at the bright moon in the star-studded sky.
The moon in this world was a bit different from Earth, as its color tends toward sky blue... it looked a bit more beautiful.
"I think this is enough." With these words, I stood up from the bench that my butt had almost stuck to.
I stretched my body a little and then set off to return to the hotel.
...
It didn’t take long to reach the hotel.
I entered the suite we had rented, and the first thing that t
was the reception room where we sat last night with Rock.
As I expected, everyone was already there, probably discussing the things they saw today.
I walked toward them and waved before throwing myself onto one of the individual sofas, "Hey guys, so how was your tour today?"
Ellen looked at , "We have been waiting for you to share what we found."
I smiled at her, "Oh... how nice of you guys." She ignored my behavior as she looked at the others.
"So, who wants to start?"
Leona raised her hand slightly, "We’ll start first."
Ellen nodded to Leona and Talia to recount what they had, while Leona took it upon herself to do so, "We went today to the house of the mother whose daughter disappeared, we searched the place and asked so questions but we didn’t get anything useful... so we decided to visit all the places that girl went to in the past days and weeks."
"We started from the nearest places, and today we visited two grocery stores and one for girls’ clothes, then we moved to so of her friends, but in the end we didn’t get anything... but there are still many places to go to in the coming days."
Ellen nodded to them, "Good... and now our turn."
With that, she took the initiative to speak while I listened to everything with interest.
"You know Izel and I visited the house of the new couple, and unfortunately we regret to say it’s almost the sa as with Leona and Talia... the only special thing is that spoon and fork that disappeared with the two victims."
Then she looked at Kyle and Elliot.
Elliot sighed, "The sa thing, there isn’t a single piece of evidence, but according to what we guessed, the way they disappeared is exactly like space manipulation or teleportation, and not a low-level one at that."
"So we reviewed the files of anyone in this city who has this type of ability, and we found only two and they are from the security elents, and even the police conducted the necessary investigation with them but their innocence was proven in the end by many pieces of evidence."
Kyle took the opportunity to speak.
"I think what we need to search for is not who did it or how he did it, but why he is doing it... why did he choose these people specifically?"
"No matter how much I think, I don’t think the matter is just a random draw, there is always a pattern or a common link in these things."
To be honest, I had the sa thinking as Kyle.
And now as they finished recounting what they had, they looked at , while I smiled, "In fact, I have sothing new that even the police didn’t notice."
So amazent was drawn on their faces, but I ignored it and continued.
"You know that I went to the garden where that person disappeared, but like the other sites everything was very normal."
"So what’s special in what you found?" Izel interrupted .
I raised my finger to silence her, "Don’t interrupt
please... as I was saying everything was almost normal."
"That bench where the man was seen for the last ti was under a tree, and directly above it there was a thick branch containing a small bird’s nest, the nest contained two new eggs... how did I know they were recently laid? That goes back to my ability to see the soul in living beings, and the eggs were devoid of any life."
Everyone listened with interest.
"We know the man disappeared at night, and most ordinary birds stay in their nests at that ti especially a mother who has two eggs, so at the ti when the man likely disappeared the bird was in that nest at a height of four ters from the ground."
"But when I went there I didn’t find the mother in her nest, so I stayed away and waited all day, in the end the mother never returned to her nest."
I leaned back on the sofa and left them to think about what I said, but it seems that one of them doesn’t like thinking, "So what’s special about your story with the birds?" Izel spoke with indignation.
Why is she so biased against anything I say?
But I didn’t even have to respond to her because Kyle did that, "He ans that the bird might have disappeared with the man at the sa ti."
I nodded my head while Ellen completed, "Which ans that the thing or phenonon that takes these people does not distinguish between humans or other beings, but takes any living thing in a diater of four ters or more."
I nodded my head.
"And this might explain why the couple disappeared at the sa ti, and a few other people."
Kyle continued.
"So whatever this thing is that takes them, it’s either not smart enough to distinguish between humans and other beings, or let’s say the matter is more like..."
"An automatic phenonon."
