"Yes... ah! I wish this peaceful ti could last," she said.
Silence fell between them once again for a long while.
A cold breeze swept past, scattering the flowers.
Lily suddenly felt a chill in the air and instinctively clenched the Mage Robe in her hands.
Kael looked up and only then did he realize that it had unknowingly begun to snow lightly outside.
Outside the hall, the maids were curiously tilting their heads up to watch the first snow of the winter, while Fulan, the little Cat Girl adopted by the chief maid, Lin Hua, leaped past the front of the hall.
Jumping behind her, the Gluttonous Sli closely followed its young master, and faint laughter and chatter could be heard echoing through the courtyard.
"It's snowing,"
Kael said softly.
"Speaking of which, senior sister, how is the project you've been busy with lately coming along?"
Lily was startled at first but then rembered, her face brightening sowhat as she spoke:
"The Matrix Magic Array? That thing still presents so technical difficulties, but the frawork is almost sorted out. All that's left is to feed the Array with spells to fuel the transformation matrix and connect it to the Elental Pool."
Kael nodded.
The Matrix Magic Array is a brand new technology tailored for the Mage Tower. The Mage Towers of this era still fall short of the peak destructive power of those from before his reincarnation.
The reason is, essentially, that the current era's Tower Spirits are akin to rudintary AI.
While their existence does provide so assistance in magic research and helps mages stabilize their positions and mount defense and counterattacks, in the end...
It still lacks sothing.
The effect of fully automated spell-casting is not yet smooth enough – that's Kael's assessnt of the current Mage Tower's destructive capability.
When the "Underworld Gate" progresses a century further, the first sign of the age of mages will arrive, and a fully automated Mage Tower will be born.
The day when the "True Mage Tower" arrives – built with automatic elental harvesting, auto-generation of elental crystals, replenishnt of the Elental Pool, auto-repair of the Mage Tower's coatings, auto-detection of nearby enemies, and automated assembly of spells for counterattacks – the whole world will burst into exuberant cheers for its advent.
At its peak, a fully constructed Mage Tower could protect an entire city with its formidable deterrent force, even in the absence of its master.
Kael had once complained about many functions of the present Mage Tower not being perfect. Thinking about it now, it seems Lily had taken those criticisms to heart early on, attempting to develop research that could et Kael's demands for a Magic Tower.
This subtle yet profound affection made Kael shake his head and chuckle bitterly.
Strictly speaking, Kael did not wish to incur additional emotional debts to himself.
It wasn't that he was being sanctimonious; it was rely a survival necessity.
He was currently in his busiest period, needing to devote more ti to preparing for the likely challenges of a new world to ensure his continued survival.
If he were preoccupied with love affairs, when the true crisis arrived, he would inevitably be tossed about in the chaos, unable to safely secure himself and the people he cared about, and proceed smoothly through the turbulent tis.
In true tis of chaos, without weapons to ensure one's maximum safety, everything one owns could be pillaged under the gaze of enemies.
Beauty as jade, swords as rainbows?
They're plundering your beauties, your swords, and your wealth!
This bleak reality is exactly what the chaos in the ga world realistically portrays.
Even players endowed with Undead Bodies had to huddle together for warmth in chaotic tis, let alone ordinary people.
Understanding this principle, Kael hadn't closed off his heart to others; he had simply realized, after weighing the pros and cons, that spending too much ti on romantic affairs would ultimately impact the accumulation of his own power and that of his forces.
Also, it would result in a loss of so of the deterrence that could otherwise be in his control when facing various difficult situations in the future.
This was an unacceptable loss for Kael.
Indeed, looking at the current actions of Elanna and Hassaka, one could understand.
Elanna never spent too much ti on romantic pursuits. When the two t occasionally, they would at most spend half a day together outside.
Many tis, when Elanna finished her courses at the Royal Knight Academy and teleported back to the estate to find Kael and rest for a while, the thing they most often did was not talk about love.
More often, they would be in the Sky Garden of the Lord Mansion, with a delicate tea table set up with black tea and desserts, along with a large pile of Magic Books.
Elanna would wield the knight's spear in the wind, simulating attacks on large Monsters, or lift her treasured sword, attempting to perfect her own Secret Sword technique.
The sudden ripping of the air by her strikes caused the wind to ss up Kael's hair standing aside, yet he, seemingly oblivious, quietly flipped through the Magic Book in his hands.
At most, he would occasionally look up, and their glances eting would spark a shared smile.
This was the everyday routine between Kael and Elanna.
Plain and simple, yet with a hint of mutual support and encouragent.
