He slamd his fists against his throne, going into a fit of rage, unable to control himself. I could see the veins popping out of his forehead, staring at dead in the eyes, wanting to kill at every given mont.
"TELL ."
He wasn’t asking.
He was demanding, and depending on my reply, he would either hurt extrely badly or let go. However, I hadn’t lied. I had no idea how the Gods could contact or why I was the one chosen to enter this world.
It’s not that I didn’t want to help. I simply couldn’t.
"I... I’m not lying. You can put through tests. I don’t know how to contact them. They are the ones doing it, and yes, they are the ones who saved from the poison. But I cannot help you any more."
A smirk ford on his face, a growing smirk. "Of course you can. Of course you can help . They contacted you before, didn’t they? Make it happen again. That’s all."
I was too stunned to speak.
I wasn’t sure why he wanted to talk to the Gods so badly. Maybe it was greed for power? But for so reason, I had a feeling that wasn’t exactly the reason. It was honestly kind of weird in a sense. He looked obsessed.
"I can’t really order them around, you know. It’s kind of a one-sided relationship."
The King began taking deep breaths. He knew that I was telling the truth right now. Gods were higher beings that I could barely begin to understand. I had no clue what they did or why he was so obsessed.
"Why do you want to talk to one anyway? They’re... special. Let’s put it at that."
I didn’t want to tell him that one of them had tried to kill or even give a power that was similar to a curse.
"That’s for to figure out. Just make sure to give them that ssage. That I want to et with one of them. I want to have a talk, that’s all."
I nodded.
I was pretty sure that a lot of them were watching this whole thing right now. If they wanted to intervene, they would have without a doubt. But for so reason, they weren’t coming; they weren’t showing themselves to the King.
"You better win this tournant. Because if you don’t, I’ll look for soone else to be Elena’s guard," he said coldly.
My eyes widened slightly. There seed to be an underlying threat here. It almost seed like if I failed, then he would not only replace but kill , get rid of .
The easygoing king that I had t at the very beginning was nowhere to be seen now.
Without saying another word, I went back to my room, giving the King one last bow before turning around.
***
I was walking back to my room, but just as I was about to reach the door, I was pulled to the side.
Lady Seraphina was the one who had grabbed and pushed against the wall.
’What the hell is happening? Why is everyone trying to attack ? What’s the problem here?’ I thought in the back of my mind, annoyed that I kept getting into problems left and right when I hadn’t done anything.
"Is what you said back there true? Did you get into contact with a God?"
’What was this whole thing with Gods? Why does everyone care so much?’
I knew that Lady Seraphina had been spying back there. There was no point in trying to hide the truth from her, so I just admitted it.
"Yes. It’s true. One of them decided to save ."
Her eyes widened as if she could hardly believe the words coming out of my mouth when I was just simply telling the truth.
"Listen to carefully."
I tried to open my mouth, but I felt her finger pressing against my lips, forcing to stay silent.
"Listen. Don’t talk about this with anyone else. If this gets out, then you will be in grave danger. You don’t understand just how special you are. Having contact with the Gods? That’s not sothing that many people in this world have. You are one of the chosen ones, and if ’evil’ beings were to figure out this connection, then they would go to great lengths to have you and figure out all of your secrets."
"Am I really that special?" I asked her, frowning and confused. "It just happened. I didn’t do anything. I swear."
She patted my head softly.
"I know. It’s not your fault. This is a blessing, you understand? Use it to your own advantage."
"Why is it so special to have a connection with Gods? What does the King want from it?"
She sighed. "What everyone wants? They want to ascend. They want to beco a God themselves, and the best way to figure out how... is to ask one of them."
’Becoming a God?’ I thought in the back of my mind.
I rembered the sight of the God of Poison, and honestly... I wasn’t sure if it was as beautiful as people were making it out to be.
Living the rest of eternity alone, in your own little space, seed quite boring, to be honest.
Still, for those who could dream of it, I could understand them. Becoming so powerful that no one can dare to look you in the eyes. You can do whatever you want for the rest of eternity. It does seem nice.
"I see... well, I’ll keep it a secret then. Thank you."
I tried to move away from her grasp, but it only tightened.
"About that black-haired girl... I tried to learn more about her. But nothing; there’s nothing about her. Whoever is protecting her among the nobles is extrely powerful. You need to be careful around her. She might be one of the strongest youths from the last millennium."
I raised an eyebrow.
I could still rember the extensive list of all her skills.
There was no doubt that she was the person to beat.
