Standing atop my castle walls, I watched Queen Emma Velen and her soldiers descend the mountain path, dragging along the headless corpse and the offerings they brought with them.
While my offer was grand, my request was too heavy for her to carry. Giving up her family heritage was not sothing she could decide on in an instant, so I sent her back with her offerings.
Not without a parting word.
"I will not protect what I do not own. Submit or be eradicated by the darkness." I repeated those words with narrowed eyes.
With this done, I glanced at my bloodied hands and frowned. I had no plans of getting rid of the black leather trench coat and shirt—these things would be my war attire in this world—but that doesn’t an I should wear them all the ti while I’m here.
Snap!
A dark rift appeared beside and I walked in, erging in the castle library where I hung my coat on my reading chair. Another rift opened as soon as I grabbed it and I stepped in, returning to my dormitory on Earth.
"That castle has no source of water... I guess Lord Ravus and his fucking family weren’t big on hygiene," I grumbled.
Since I got there, I had no water to brush, drink, or bathe. I can’t stay there for months in that condition—I’m not a pig.
Buzz~Buzz!
My face twisted at the sound of my phone on the bed, buzzing. This left wondering if soone was waiting for to return to this world just to stress .
I had spent only a day in my Nightfall Dominion territory, which was equivalent to 48 minutes on Earth. We had a two-week break, so why the hell were they bothering ?
Hmph!
Snorting disdainfully, I ignored the call and stripped myself. I planned to get these clothes washed but I couldn’t send them to the dry cleaner. It would be weird washing torn clothes.
"How am I supposed to explain I need to leave them this way to make space for my wings?" I shook my head while walking into the bathroom.
With no other choice, I washed them myself before filling up the bathtub with steaming hot water and sinking myself into it for hours.
The heat couldn’t burn my skin anymore—instead, it helped numb the stabbing pain I felt in my chest. Maybe it was fatigue or the soothing feeling that ca with the hot bath, but my vision blurred as I slowly drifted into a deep sleep.
Bang!
Bang!
Bang!
My eyes slowly opened, twisting into a frown. The water had lost its warmth. Rising to my feet, I looked down only to notice the water had turned pitch black, as if I was bleeding ink, but I didn’t speak.
It was not news that my body was undergoing changes. Complaining about every little change felt stupid now. I unplugged the drain stopper before stepping out.
Bang!
Bang!
Bang!
The banging on the door continued, but I wasn’t moved. Dealing with constant notification sounds, constant pain, and concern had strengthened my ntal fortitude. Even if the person knocked for a month non-stop, I could carry on my day like they never existed.
Dragging my towel along, I walked over to the vanity and glanced at my reflection in the mirror. I clearly rembered how I looked months ago when I ca to this world—emaciated, feeble, and ugly—but all that had changed overnight.
Currently, I had a physique n could only dream of and won would die for. My skin was slightly paler than usual, and my short hair had grown down to neck length.
Running my hand through my raven-black hair, I couldn’t help but notice my eyes. While they looked normal now, there was sothing about them I couldn’t explain. I felt drawn to them, like they were the pathway to heaven. It took so effort to break eye contact.
"I didn’t think I would change so much in such a short ti," I muttered while pulling my toothbrush out of the drawer. "I guess it’s because I leveled up so much in just a day."
As soon as I was done brushing, I returned to the room with my towel tied around my waist. I was about to enter the dressing room when I heard Pala’s voice.
"I know you are in there!" she yelled. "Open up!"
Freezing on the spot, I turned my attention to the door and let out a heavy sigh. With a heavy sigh, I approached and unlocked the door.
Bam!
Pala kicked the door but I held it before it could hit my face, and in one powerful swing, the door slamd into her face, slamming shut in the process.
Bang!
I heard Pala fall over on the other side. Calmly, I opened the door and looked at the fallen Pala with a nosebleed. Standing a foot away was Natasha, covering her mouth in shock with the I can’t believe you did that look in her eyes.
"Behave!" I snarled, my voice laced with venom while my eyes turned pitch black.
Pala originally wore a frown, but upon hearing my words, her eyes widened with surprise and a hint of fear in them. Even Natasha took another step back, glancing at fearfully.
I didn’t bother saying anything else and walked into the dressing room, leaving them behind. A minute later, I stepped out wearing my night clothes and bunny slippers.
Pala was seated on my bed, tissues pressed against her bloody nose, while Natasha stood timidly behind her.
"Speak your mind quickly, I need to sleep," I said in an annoyed tone.
The two exchanged glances, probably shocked by how direct and cold I was. What they failed to understand is that I’m no longer the sa weakling I was a few months ago.
Now I had attained sufficient strength in this world. I had no reason to condone stupidity.
They could also feel the change. I could see it in Pala’s apprehensive gaze. She could tell I had gotten stronger—and it scared her.
"We have a eting with a few mbers of the Watchers tonight to discuss our plans for Louisiana," Pala didn’t beat around the bush. "That’s why I called you so many tis earlier today."
Upon hearing this, my frown eased up. As long as it involved Lee Bai, I couldn’t ignore it.
