Chapter 367: Assault!
These reinforcents were expected to co in three days.
If the Vardish reinforcents hit us, we would be pinned between them and Castle Soneraht. It will be a very unfavorable tactical position—if the reinforcents cut off our supply lines…
Bees could scrounge sohow, but humans will definitely start starving almost imdiately.
We didn’t have a week—we had to attack imdiately so we could either deal with Castle Soneraht’s threat, or know for sure that we were better off retreating and maneuvering around.
So I gave an order to attack the next morning, before sunrise—the ti when bees were already awake and alert, but humans were at their sleepiest.
This ti, the Bee Empire army and the Naregan army were going to attack together. But bees went in first.
The main gate of the Castle Soneraht was its most vulnerable place, and this is where I and Bloodimina planned to strike
Our army spread in three parts: two were going to neutralize the cannons on parts of the wall that could shoot at the area in front of the gate, while the third would go to the gate itself.
As our swarms stood on the grass in front of our camp, I looked over my warrior daughters. They were smiling, all excited to fight against people I declared enemies of the Empire, especially since I will be with them.
Still, I felt like proceeding without at least a small speech would be bad luck.
“My girls! Today’s fight isn’t like any others we fought before. Castles are no joke—but I know that with your talents and skills, you will easily pass this challenge. With your courage, your power and your wits, we will conquer it today so we could conquer the rest of this country tomorrow. For the Empire!”
My daughter cheered, raising their spears in salutes and grinning.
“FOR THE EMPIRE!”
Now they were almost glowing with battle spirit! After the battle begins and my “Titan Slayer” title will start giving them bonuses they were going to be real murder machines.
“Then let’s go! Everybody, march! Quietly,” I added, using telepathy to make sure everybody in the army heard the order.
It was, of course, impossible for a bee army of this size to travel quietly, especially over air. As we traveled, the buzzing alone scared insects in the surrounding forest.
But we stayed under the canopy, even though it forced the soldiers to spread wider to fit between all the trees, and kept hidden from the sight of Vardish people on the walls.
We stopped before the moat—my only source of worry at the mont.
A large, open space of water… It was 500 ters wide, and there was no cover for us in these entire 500 ters!
If we will be noticed, it will be now. Individual bees could cross the moat and stay unnoticed thanks to their size, but an entire army…
However, I didn’t lead this army here unprepared!
“Bloodimina, what are our people on the walls saying?” I asked.
Bloodimina, who stayed near for now, looked at her signaler—a Beehound who sent and received telepathic ssages in Bloodimina’s stead—then, after half a minute, back at .
“The sentries on the walls mostly look at the Naregan camp. They noticed Gresch was readying his soldiers and are currently preparing to defend against an assault… But only three sentries look at the moat ahead of us.”
I smiled. Three wasn’t too much—although this didn’t account for random soldiers who decided to look below at a wrong mont, only for dedicated sentries.
“Tell my girls to make the sentries stop looking.” I glanced between Bloodimina and the signaler Beehound. “Either of you do it.”
The signaler jolted and looked between and Bloodimina in confusion. Clearly, breaking a chain of command like that was a bad thing to do for her peace of mind!
Thankfully, Bloodimina acted like nothing special happened.
“Yes, Father!” Bloodimina turned to the signaler. “Transfer the order to clear the way.”
The signaler hurriedly nodded, still not speaking a word aloud—I don’t think I ever heard her voice.
A minute passed in silence. Then…
“The path is clear for now, Father,” Bloodimina said. “But the Agents had to put themselves in a risky position to open it. We must hurry.”
I nodded.
‘We will fly at full speed over the moat! Let’s cross it as fast as possible, girls!’ I ssaged the soldiers.
We flew without delay, and everybody beat their wings as fast as they could! Even the average Warrior Bees who didn’t have the super-enhanced speed of morphotyped bees, tried their best.
In a flash, the moat was behind us, and the gates were ahead. But there was no ti to pause. From now on, with each second, our notice beca more and more inevitable—so we had to act before the enemies did.
Here, Bloodimina had to leave —along with half of the army.
“You know what to do, Grand Commander Bloodimina. Only your best!” I told her, eting her eyes.
She saluted .
“Yes, and nothing less. Only more!”
The army was already instructed who will go with whom. Bloodimina and one of her Chiefs led two smaller groups to deal with the enemy cannons, while I went toward the gates.
But first, all of us flew up alongside the tall, tall wall.
It was taller than the moat was wide, and for a minute, it felt like it would never end…
Then I flew over the edge and was imdiately t with a sight of a human chest in a gaudy Vardish uniform. Much above it was a wide-eyed bug-face with jaws open wide in shock.
“Close your mouth before a bee flies in!” I shouted, aiming and firing at this face with my stinger.
He choked on his scream and staggered back while I fearlessly flew forward. Behind , like a living wave, rose hundreds of thousands of bee soldiers.
I pointed forward, toward where the gate opening chanism was.
“Our target is ahead! Charge and kill anyone who resists!”
