But their next reaction made it look like they heard .
The Sentry raised both its arms again.
Miriam and Lyra exchanged quick glances of fear, frustration, and unspoken trust—a flashing between them.
"Ready?" Miriam asked.
Lyra wiped blood from her chin. "Like hell I would ever think of sleeping like you."
Miriam only chuckled. "I won’t let this scrap tal beat us either."
And with that, they dashed from the ground.
Wind and fire spiraled together, clashing into a tornado of gray and gold flas as they circled the Sentry at impossible speed.
The Sentry spun its arm again, this ti forming chains of lightning.
Streaks of electric energy crackled across the ground.
Then, a spear of pure lightning stabbed upward, splitting the tornado in half.
Miriam gritted her teeth, shocked at the sight of the horror before her. "It predicted that angle?"
Lyra hissed. "This is getting bad."
For a reason they quite couldn’t grasp, they now looked toward the area I was in, concentrated and engulfed in a blue aura of healing power, mixing with the wind cocoon.
"..."
None of them said anything as they returned their gazes to the sentry.
No matter what the turn of events was, it was still early for them to let their guards down.
No matter how the tides might have changed, the only way they could get through is by not giving up.
But still, their minds questioned their beliefs.
’Is this what Mobix had been fighting all alone?’
’Mr. Handso, I didn’t tell you, but my wind cocoon is a slow-healing magic. Please recover quickly; we need you.’
Of course, the Sentry didn’t care whatever was going on. It only had three objectives in its mind.
The first to clear its obstacles. To remove the stumbling blocks in its path. And the only way to do that was by eliminating the duo.
After it had done that, it would then focus on and try to subdue . It knew that with how strong I am currently, it won’t be able to take over except in my weakest state.
Then, the last would be to either escape with my body or do with whatever it wanted as a "target."
With this objective clear in its mind, it began firing bomb shots at Miriam and Lyra.
Continuously, it fired another without stopping.
Then another. And another.
It took turns of all seven elental energies, rotating through them in rapid succession, each aid precisely at where they would move next.
As timid as it looked as an artifact, it actually possessed a sense that was far negotiable for a re invention.
During the earlier monts of Miriam and Lyra’s attacks, it had not only learned about their magic power but also learned through the pattern with which they moved.
One thing warriors seed not to take note of during battles was the pattern with which they fought.
As inadvertent as it may look, fighting skillfully or well enough in such a way to stand out only ant one was using stored patterns, unbeknownst to them.
The reason is that the behavior of a human person is just like a groove carved into the mind.
No matter how advanced, gifted, or victorious a fighter becos, the brain still defaults to familiar habits ford through repetition.
In battle, instinct outruns brilliance, and it’s due to this course that a fighter’s strikes all erge from the sa ntal groove that holds his experience together.
Maybe this is why the saying that "experience is the best teacher" stands out in physical activities.
And still, perhaps, this is why opponents try to learn their moves and use them as weaknesses against each other.
This is undoubtedly what the Sentry had done. It had sohow mastered their patterns and now shot speculatively.
It didn’t strike at them where they were.
No. It struck at where they would be.
Having figured out the intelligible moves of the Sentry, Lyra spoke first in between her defensive attacks.
"What do you suggest?" she asked.
Miriam smirked and spared her a glance.
"Uhm... I guess. Sothing stupid."
Lyra laughed at the suggestion. It wasn’t like Miriam had made no sense; in fact, she was willing to follow up.
"Perfect. I excel at stupid things," Lyra said.
Once the agreent was sealed, Miriam cloaked herself with the wind and suddenly dove straight toward the Sentry. Her movents were more of a reckless freefall.
The Sentry locked onto her instantly.
"TARGET FIXED," its voice bood in the whole arena.
But at the last mont, she stopped. Miriam halted mid-air.
Wind thickened beneath her feet, forming a vertical air plate. She launched herself sideways at a 90-degree angle.
The Sentry’s seven eyes widened. ’Impossible. That’s an incredible maneuver no normal movent can predict. Not like it would affect .’
But then, Lyra suddenly appeared below her in the sa instant, her sword sheathed, flas bursting from her heels.
She flipped her sword, kicking it upward for Miriam to catch.
The flaming blade ignited as the wind surrounded it. A fused elental attack.
"Wind-Fla Sword Art—Blazing Ga Severance!" Both of them echoed across the arena.
But the Sentry was ready.
It lifted its arms.
Seven elental shields appeared, rotating around it like planetary rings.
Lyra cursed.
Miriam exhaled. "Just as I expected. Then take this, you tiring cockroach!’
They had almost activated the attack with their last bonded power; thankfully, the Sentry had acted before they unleashed it.
Whether it was out of exhilaration or reflexively, they couldn’t tell. What Miriam knew was that it was going to turn out well for them.
She raised the fused blade overhead, gripping it with both hands.
Lyra followed beneath her.
The blade shrieked. The wind roared. And the fla howled.
Then, they dropped the attack.
The fused slash collided with the seven rotating shields.
GWAAAAAAM!!!
A whirlpool of blazing wind spread across the arena in a violent explosion, bending the air and scattering the shields into shard-like leaves.
Everywhere went mute, and the two Elents rejoiced over their victory.
"But co to think of it, you also watched... what’s the na of the movie again?" Miriam asked, tapping her lips in thought.
"Sword Art Online," Lyra replied, cutting her off from her thoughts.
"Exactly," Miriam snapped her thumb against her middle finger. "I thought as much since I was surprised when you muttered that spell together with ."
"You know, I watch at least five episodes of the ani series before going to sleep," Miriam added.
Lyra shrugged. "Tch. I only watch them to learn new tactics and skills."
Miriam’s eyes dazzled. "Uhnn. So tell the nas of more series..."
"Jokes apart, Miriam, and focus," Lyra warned, her expression switching imdiately.
As if she knew their attack against the Sentry hadn’t finished it off.
Instead, for the first ti since their attack against this demon artifact, they made it stagger.
And it really angered the Sentry.
Its core flickered nacingly, and its body crackled with furious energy as it tried to regain its composure.
Lyra grinned savagely once the dust from the attack’s impact had settled. "Now that’s the damage."
But the Sentry’s seven eyes suddenly brightened at once.
From where Miriam stood, a sudden fear tugged at her nerves.
At the mont, they were weak to the extent that taking a direct hit from the Sentry would an their life’s end. Not only that, their movents were barely keeping up at its normal speed.
At this rate, defense wasn’t also an option for them, considering how fast the Sentry was on its own part.
She looked at Lyra, who was still dancing at her little success against the Sentry.
"Is it that she’s intuitively blind to understand?" Miriam thought, but then jolted at the sa ti.
The hairs on her neck rose. "Lyra—MOVE!"
She didn’t see it coming. Not even Lyra could have seen it coming. No one saw it coming.
And it was too late.
The Sentry’s chest opened, and a beam of concentrated arcane energy charged, aid directly at both of them.
Instinctively, the two Elents shouted both of their nas.
"MIRIAM!!"
"LYRA!!"
The Sentry didn’t care, so it fired.
THUUUUUM!!
The entire arena flashed before the eyes of both Miriam and Lyra before everywhere darkened.
And then, within this darkness, they heard a calm voice.
"Thank you so much for buying such an extravagant amount of ti. Now, I will buy us victory."
