Word of their victory spread faster than Dante expected, carried through Floor 11’s main camp by climbers who had nothing better to do than gossip about the party that defeated the Iron Warden with only seven fighters when the recomnded minimum was twelve.

The camp itself was a sprawling settlent built into the side of a crystalline mountain, thousands of climbers gathered in the largest safe zone he saw since entering the Tower. The structures here weren’t temporary shelters or carved alcoves but permanent buildings constructed from the sa crystalline material as the mountain itself. Streets wound between towers and marketplaces, and the air humd with the business of people who made this place their ho.

"They’re staring." Ravenna walked close to Dante with her hood pulled up to hide her transford features. The ember-glow of her eyes was harder to conceal now, visible even in shadow. "All of them."

"Let them stare since we earned it." He kept his pace steady, not slowing for the curious onlookers.

"It’s not just curiosity." Ren’s voice was low, his tactical mind already assessing threats. "So of those looks are calculating, like they’re asuring us up."

"For recruitnt or elimination." Dante had seen this before in his original tiline since success in the Tower attracted attention, both positive and negative. "Let them calculate, because by the ti they decide what to do about us we’ll already be moving."

The camp’s central plaza was dominated by a massive crystal that displayed Tower notifications for all to see. Climbers gathered around it constantly, watching for updates on dungeon clears, title awards, and the occasional system-wide announcent that signaled major events.

As they approached, a new ssage scrolled across its surface in letters of burning gold.

[Floor 10 clearance recorded]

[Party: Dante Graves (Leader), Ravenna Cinderheart, Astrid Vane, Ren Katsuro, Seira Valen, Leon Chen, Sera Lynn]

[Clearance ti: 4 days 7 hours]

[Party size: 7 (Recomnded: 8-12)]

[Title awarded to party leader: Iron Slayer]

[Administrator attention: Level 10]

The crowd around the crystal shifted with faces turning toward Dante’s group with new interest. Whispers spread through the plaza like ripples in still water.

"Iron Slayer. That’s him?"

"Seven people against the Warden. Has to be a mistake."

"Four days? The last party took two weeks with twelve fighters."

Dante ignored the whispers, but he didn’t miss the way so of the watching faces darkened with sothing that looked like resentnt. Not everyone appreciated seeing their climbing records shattered by an unknown party from the lower floors.

"Administrator attention increased." Ren moved closer, keeping his voice barely above a murmur. "Level 10. Is that bad?"

"It ans the Tower is watching more closely, paying more attention to what I do and how I do it." Dante studied the notification, feeling the weight of those watching eyes settle on his shoulders like a physical burden. "It’s been Level 9 since the Archon fragnt encounter, so this push to 10 ans sothing significant happened."

"Ravenna’s evolution?" Ren glanced toward her.

"Maybe, or maybe the irregular combat patterns they keep detecting, or the way we cleared the Warden faster than their algorithms predicted." He turned away from the crystal, leading the group toward the quieter edges of the plaza. "The system is designed to challenge climbers at a specific rate, so we’re violating that design and sothing upstairs doesn’t like it."

"Sothing upstairs?" Astrid’s question was sharp. "What’s watching us?"

"The Tower has administrators, beings that manage the system, adjust difficulty, and occasionally intervene directly in climber affairs." Dante kept his voice low since he didn’t want this conversation overheard. "In my original tiline, I never drew enough attention to interact with them until much higher floors, but this tiline is different."

"Different how?"

"I don’t know yet, and that’s what worries ."

---

They found an inn at the camp’s edge, a building carved from the sa crystalline stone as the mountain itself called the Amber Summit according to the sign beside its entrance.

The proprietor was a weathered woman who clearly climbed longer than any of them were alive, her system-enhanced body still strong despite features that suggested advanced age.

She took one look at Dante’s title, now displayed beside his na in the Tower’s public registry, and imdiately offered them their best suite.

"Iron Slayer. First ti that title’s been awarded in three years." Her voice carried the rough texture of soone who swallowed too much volcanic ash in her climbing days. "The last one died on Floor 23 because he got overconfident."

"I’ll try not to repeat his mistake." Dante accepted the key she handed him.

"See that you don’t since I don’t offer refunds for dead custors."

The suite was larger than any accommodation they used since entering the Tower. Multiple sleeping chambers arranged around a central common room with a balcony that overlooked the camp’s sprawling expanse. Through the crystalline walls, the mountain’s interior glowed with soft light that seed to emanate from the stone itself.

"This is luxury." Ravenna ran her hand along a crystal surface, feeling the warmth that pulsed within. "I’ve never stayed anywhere so comfortable."

"Enjoy it while it lasts since Floor 11 and beyond, everything gets more complicated." Dante moved to the balcony, watching the crowds that moved through the camp below. "Political factions, territory disputes, betrayals that make early-floor conflicts look like playground argunts."

"You’re always so encouraging." Astrid dropped onto a cushioned seat with a groan of relief, letting her exhausted muscles finally relax. "Iron Slayer, though. Sounds impressive, I admit."

"It’s just a title."

"Just a title that marks you as soone who beat an extre-threat boss with an undermanned party." Ren settled into a chair, cradling his still-healing arm. "That’s the kind of achievent that gets noticed by people who matter like faction leaders, sponsors, the powers that control access to upper-floor resources."

"That’s exactly what I’m worried about."

Before anyone could respond, a knock sounded at the suite’s door.

---

Adrian appeared that evening without warning, that pleasant smile firmly in place with golden hair catching the light from the corridor’s crystal lamps.

He was alone this ti with his faction nowhere in sight, dressed in climbing gear that was suspiciously clean for soone who supposedly just cleared Floor 10.

"Dante. Congratulations on your victory." His voice was warm and sincere in a way that made Dante’s instincts scream danger. "The whole camp is talking about the Iron Slayer and his remarkable team."

"Adrian. I wasn’t expecting you so soon." Dante kept his hand near his weapon.

"I ca through the gate just after your party, so I heard the news and wanted to offer my respects in person." He glanced past Dante to where the others were gathered, his empty eyes cataloging faces and positions with the precision of a predator assessing prey. "May I co in since there’s sothing I’d like to discuss?"

Every instinct Dante possessed told him to refuse, but refusing would raise questions and create conflict they weren’t ready for. Better to keep Adrian close, to understand what he planned than to force him into shadows where his movents couldn’t be tracked.

"Five minutes."

Adrian entered the suite with the casual confidence of soone who believed themselves welco everywhere. His presence changed the room’s atmosphere instantly, tension rising like heat before a thunderstorm. Ravenna shifted into a more aggressive stance while Astrid’s hand drifted toward her weapon. Even Ren, usually the diplomatic one, looked ready for violence.

Adrian seed not to notice, or perhaps simply didn’t care.

"You’ve changed." His attention settled on Ravenna, studying her transford features with open curiosity. "Since Floor 9, if I’m not mistaken. The Infernal Shrine, perhaps?"

"How do you know about that?" Ravenna’s question ca out sharper than intended.

"The shrine is legendary among those who study demonic heritage, an ancient place of power that only responds to specific bloodlines hidden within the Burning Halls’ fortress." His smile never wavered. "When I saw your new appearance, the connection was obvious, so congratulations on unlocking your potential."

"Is there a point to this visit?" Dante moved to stand between Adrian and Ravenna, positioning himself as a physical barrier. "Or did you just co to observe?"

"I ca to make an offer." Adrian reached into his coat and withdrew a small crystal identical to the ones the Tower used for official communications. "My faction is growing since we’ve absorbed three other groups since Floor 8, and we’re positioned to beco one of the dominant forces in the mid-floors. I want you to join us."

The room went quiet as everyone processed what he said.

"Join you." Dante’s voice was flat.

"As an equal, of course, not a subordinate." Adrian set the crystal on a nearby table. "Your skills, your knowledge, your remarkable ability to anticipate threats before they manifest combined with my faction’s resources and numbers. We could clear floors faster than any party in Tower history, pushing toward the upper levels while others are still struggling through the teens."

"Why specifically?"

"Because I recognize potential when I see it, and because I’d rather have you as an ally than as competition." Adrian’s smile took on an edge that hadn’t been there before, sothing cold lurking behind the pleasant facade. "The higher floors get more dangerous and more political, so having the right friends makes the difference between success and extinction."

Dante studied the man who would betray him in another tiline, studied those empty eyes that revealed nothing of the thoughts behind them.

"I’ll think about it."

"That’s all I ask." Adrian moved toward the door, his body language suggesting a man who accomplished exactly what he intended. "The offer stands as long as you want it since we’re camped on the eastern platform if you decide to visit."

He paused at the threshold.

"One more thing." His voice was still pleasant, but the threat beneath was unmistakable. "Whatever you’re hiding, whatever foreknowledge lets you move through floors like you’ve walked them a hundred tis, I will figure it out eventually. Better to be on the sa side when that happens."

He left without another word, the door closing behind him with a soft click.

The mont he was gone, Astrid spoke up.

"Please tell you’re not actually considering that." She crossed her arms, glaring at the door.

"Of course not, but refusing outright would make him suspicious." Dante moved to the window, watching Adrian’s figure retreating through the camp below. "He’s making his move, so whatever his plan is in this tiline it starts with drawing us into his orbit."

"So we stay far away." Ren stood, wincing at the movent.

"We stay alert since there’s a difference." He turned back to face the group with his expression hard. "Adrian is dangerous because he’s patient, so he’ll wait years for the right opportunity if he has to. The mont we forget about him is the mont he strikes."

Ravenna moved to stand beside him, her hand finding his. "Then we don’t forget, any of us."

"We won’t." Ren’s voice was firm. "Whatever he’s planning, he’s going up against all of us now, not just you."

Dante looked at his team, at the determination in their eyes, and felt sothing warm settle in his chest.

He wasn’t alone anymore, so whatever Adrian plotted, whatever the Tower threw at them, they would face it together.

"Get so rest since tomorrow we start planning our route through Floor 11, and we stay far away from Adrian’s camp."

They scattered to their rooms with exhaustion finally catching up with all of them.

Dante stayed at the window long after the others were gone, watching the lights of the camp below and wondering what moves Adrian was already making in the shadows.
