Jonas Hawthorne didn’t think there was anything up until Leo Keane pointed it out, raising his brows as he asked back, "Really?"

"Yes!!" Leo Keane eagerly seized the chance to observe, "Look, even your expressions have changed when you speak!"

Jonas Hawthorne, "..."

He glanced coldly at Leo Keane—pushing boundaries, is he?

"Ahem!" Leo Keane quickly changed tack and, after scratching his head, said, "You don’t have anything else going on, right? Then I’ll head out?"

As Jonas Hawthorne didn’t object, Leo Keane hurriedly slipped away!

Though he had co all this way, it was sowhat worth it to tease Jonas Hawthorne a bit—totally worth it!

After Leo Keane left, Jonas Hawthorne remained silent for a while before habitually pulling out his phone.

The conversation with Raine Sinclair remained on the last ssage he had sent.

Checking her Monts again—no updates in recent days.

Who knows how she’s feeling...

At least Cecilia Sullivan is back, so there’s soone she can talk to.

Despite Raine Sinclair’s outgoing personality, she seldom troubles others.

She rarely shares her worries with family, fearing they might be concerned.

She used to occasionally talk to him, but later...

Now Lily Sinclair has betrayed her—if not for Cecilia Sullivan around, how unbearable her days would be?

Sighing, Jonas Hawthorne stared at Raine Sinclair’s avatar for a while.

His thumb lightly stroked the delicate face on the avatar...

mories of the past, every mont with her, played like a movie in his mind.

Maybe he was too deep in thought; Jonas Hawthorne didn’t notice pressing the screen twice.

Then the ssage was sent.

[I patted ’wife’.]

Jonas Hawthorne, "..."

——

Raine Sinclair saw the notification right as she arrived at the hospital.

She frowned and opened Jonas Hawthorne’s ssage thread.

[’Jonas Hawthorne’ patted .]

Her watery eyes narrowed slightly, her mind filled with questions!

What is he up to again?

Initially not intending to respond, she recalled Leo Keane’s earlier words, wondering if perhaps he had sothing to say?

In the end, she replied with a question mark.

anwhile, Jonas Hawthorne was still lost in thought, suddenly noticing the response in the chat.

Though it was just a question mark, he smirked slightly and imdiately replied, [How are you feeling?]

Raine Sinclair saw the ssage, her eyebrows furrowed, suddenly unsure of how to respond, feeling sowhat downcast.

She recalled that ti—she had been like Jonas Hawthorne now.

She always ssaged him, asking what he was up to, struggling for topics.

Yet he often barely responded, mostly sending question marks, or when annoyed, asked why she was so idle...

Little did he know she had many things to handle too; it was the longing, the care, that drove her to connect, rejoicing in every reply he sent.

Emotions truly are wondrous things.

When you’re in love, even a single emoji can bring half a day of joy.

And when you’re not, even the longest ssages hold no joy, only irritation...

Is love just about experiencing different emotions in this endless cycle?

Raine Sinclair was a bit at a loss.

She originally didn’t intend to reply, but the mory of her past disappointnt made her sigh and finally respond with two words.

[Alright.]

Jonas Hawthorne saw the ssage and felt slightly relieved, though a sting of pain surged through his heart.

She used to love sharing with him, carrying joy in every conversation.

But now...

Just as he pondered how to continue the conversation, John Franklin’s voice sounded nearby.

"Your check-up results are out. Not much of an issue; just make sure to rest more, avoid overexertion."

Jonas Hawthorne put away his phone, turned, and accepted the results, replying casually, "Okay. Thanks."

He then prepared to leave.

But John Franklin stopped him, "In such a hurry to leave?"

Jonas Hawthorne glanced back, puzzled as to what he ant.

"I’ve asked Raine to co for a prenatal check-up—based on timing, she should be here soon. Won’t you see her?" John Franklin asked.

Jonas Hawthorne raised an eyebrow, "Why are you helping ?"

Why did John Franklin tell him this?

By now, the whole Sinclair Family likely wished he’d stay away from Raine.

John Franklin adjusted his glasses instinctively, pondered briefly, then said, "Although I don’t know what caused your divorce with Raine, it’s clear there are many misunderstandings between you two. Either way, it’s good to clear them up. After all, you’re the child’s father; shouldn’t you have been by her side during a check-up by now? The baby is already moving—don’t you want to say sothing to him?"

Hearing this, Jonas Hawthorne’s eyes flickered, about to speak, when Raine Sinclair’s familiar voice echoed from the end of the corridor.

"Second Brother?"

She only saw John Franklin’s back upon arriving; the twilight made her barely catch sight of soone talking to her second brother—but she didn’t recognize Jonas Hawthorne.

She imdiately regretted after calling out; had she known Jonas Hawthorne was there, she’d have waited longer before speaking.

Jonas Hawthorne noticed Raine’s gaze sweep over his face without stopping for a mont, once more a pang struck his heart.

John Franklin beckoned Raine over, "Here already, Raine?"

"Yes, wrapped up work early today." Raine walked over, recognizing there was no point in avoiding after face-to-face.

John Franklin nodded, checked his watch, and added, "I’m about to do my rounds. Let Jonas Hawthorne accompany you for the check-up; bring the reports to afterwards."

Raine paused—she hadn’t even asked why Jonas Hawthorne was here, yet her second brother arranged everything so clearly?

"Second Brother, I can manage on my own..."

"He’s the child’s father, he should go," John Franklin retorted, intent that his sister wouldn’t bear all alone.

"But..." Raine tried to refuse, but John Franklin gave her a firm look before walking away.

Once he left, the atmosphere between Raine Sinclair and Jonas Hawthorne felt slightly awkward.

Jonas Hawthorne finally spoke first.

"Let’s go."

Raine didn’t move, brows furrowing, "What did you say to sway my Second Brother?"

Whose brother was he exactly—hers or his?

Jonas Hawthorne couldn’t help smiling in his deep eyes, "He’s right, I’m the child’s father. It’s my responsibility."

"Unnecessary," Raine broke in coldly.

If it weren’t impossible to hide, she’d never want him to know there was a child.

"Raine." Jonas Hawthorne spoke her na helplessly, his tone almost pleading, "Let accompany you, please."
