Shi Lan had left her informants in the desert.

Deng Cong was a top director, so he disdained Peak, but not so the other assistant directors. Whether it was Peak or Shuangshi, these were not entities they could afford to offend, especially since Shi Lan always understood the exchange of interests, which was the most tangible and direct way to win people’s hearts.

There must be sothing wrong with Deng Cong’s assistant, but Shi Lan was not ready to startle the snake by striking the grass. After all, that person had been working by Deng Cong’s side for a long ti, and whether they were truly being duplicitous, Deng Cong would have to catch them red-handed.

Early the next morning, an assistant director seized Deng Cong’s habit of getting up early for morning exercise, and in sportswear, handed the last pages of the script to Deng Cong, "This morning I heard from the staff that Director Deng had asked the assistant to bring this script back. I thought you might need these few remaining pages."

Deng Cong took the pages, looking puzzled at the other party.

"Oh, the wind was strong yesterday, it blew to my feet, I saw there was sothing on it, so I didn’t throw it away." The assistant director explained, "Anyway, the script is correct."

Deng Cong nodded, opened the pages, and connected the story with what he read last night.

With a beginning and an end, the whole story beca enriched and complete.

"Lucky for you, your assistant didn’t tear too many pages."

The few remaining pages had been torn by hand, he noticed.

"But isn’t it rumored that you despise Peak and An Lan? What is this?"

"Where did you hear that?" Deng Cong was extrely curious.

"On the public account, from the dia; they said the leak ca from your end. I’ve got to eat breakfast, so I won’t chat anymore, see you later." The assistant director casually ntioned a piece of gossip, seemingly unintentional, but Deng Cong heard the implication.

He had clearly instructed his assistant to contact Peak and An Lan, but instead of following his orders, the assistant had sent a signal that he loathed Peak and refused to cooperate.

The assistant had beco quite sothing now, already taking charge like the boss.

Deng Cong put away the pages and, with no mood for morning exercise anymore, returned to his room. Seeing that the assistant was packing up, he casually asked, "How is it going with An Lan?"

The assistant was taken aback, then imdiately put on a theatrical change of face, anger quickly rising, "Director Deng, you didn’t ntion it and I almost forgot, that little bitch An Lan, after going back, started spreading rumors with the dia, claiming that we top directors are all show and no substance. And it wasn’t us who rejected her, but she looked down on us, even saying that she wouldn’t co to us even if all the directors were dead."

"Really? Then she truly is blind." Deng Cong humphed with a laugh.

However, that was directed at the assistant, not Shi Lan.

"Director Deng, no offense, but with Peak’s poor capabilities, they’ll never make a good movie in their lifeti."

Deng Cong remained impassive, but seized the opportunity when the assistant left for breakfast, he went to Peak’s webpage and dialed Peak’s receptionist’s number.

When the cute receptionist found out it was Deng Cong, she imdiately transferred him to Shi Lan.

Shi Lan hung up the company phone and called Deng Cong back on her personal number, "Director Deng, I’ve been waiting for you for a long ti."

"You knew I’d contact you?" Deng Cong squinted his eyes, hardly believing that An Lan, with all her twists and turns, could be so deep.

"Not a hundred percent certainty, but close to it."

"Did you set this trap?" Deng Cong asked displeasedly again.

"I just... understand you better than you understand yourself," Shi Lan said with a smile, "It’s interesting, isn’t it? That’s what attracts you, isn’t it?"

Deng Cong, who desperately needed soone to clear up his confusion, said straight into the phone, "If you want to work with you, fly to the desert again, and this afternoon I will have soone arrange the tea room to wait for you."

"Okay, and by the way, I’ll bring a gift for Director Deng."

After hanging up the phone, Deng Cong was shocked to realize that he probably should not treat Shi Lan as a young girl. A person who could set a trap for you based on your personality, making you walk into a snare unknowingly, possessed the power to command the winds and the rains.

As for the gift, Deng Cong couldn’t guess, but he thought it would definitely be a surprise.

After finishing the call with Shi Lan, the assistant also just finished breakfast.

Deng Cong thought for a mont, then instructed his assistant, "Go find the manager and arrange a tea room for . I’ll need it this afternoon to entertain a VIP guest."

"Director Deng, who might that be?"

"You don’t need to worry about that."

"But aren’t we supposed to et President Huo from Jinghan dia?"

After hearing his assistant’s remark, Deng Cong’s dissatisfaction reached its peak. Normally, he knew his assistant had a penchant for taking initiatives without consulting, yet he hadn’t paid much attention. Now, giving it a thought, he realized, was this little assistant too pleased with himself? After all, even a great director like himself had to follow his assistant’s arrangents.

"Didn’t you say that I’m all booked up for the coming year?" Deng Cong asked with a sarcastic smile.

The assistant felt uneasy and imdiately explained, "We were just discussing work for the year after next..."

"How about you just fill up the rest of my life’s schedule?"

"Director Deng, that’s not what I ant. I’ll go arrange it right away."

Deng Cong was ill-tempered, but that didn’t an he was foolish.

It seed it was ti to take a closer look at what work had been scheduled for him for the coming year.

The assistant appeared to have been scared off, but out of Deng Cong’s sight, he took out his cellphone and called Jinghan dia, "That old man is refusing to et with President Huo again."

"I really have no control over this."

"I’ll return the items to you."

"And don’t seek out in the future."

So that was it.

Deng Cong hadn’t told his assistant about Shi Lan’s visit because he wanted to watch a splendid drama unfold that afternoon.

He truly hadn’t expected that he was harboring such a component at his side, unaware of how it might have been undermining his interests behind his back.

Could it have been involved in that particular affair as well?

...

Shi Lan was flying to the desert again, and this ti she was certain that tomorrow would be her return date. Therefore, she didn’t intend to have the doctor accompany her, but she planned to bring along General Manager Yan.

Thinking back to how they had confird their relationship in the desert, they both held special feelings for the place. When General Manager Yan said he wanted to see the sunset there one more ti, Shi Lan didn’t refuse.

After all, General Manager Yan’s excuse was impeccable.

They wouldn’t be able to travel as a family of three for several years to co.

Think about it, isn’t that pitiful?

However, it wasn’t until they arrived at the airport that General Manager Yan found out a little boy would also be joining them.

"Shi Lan?"

The young miss smiled, adjusted her sunglasses, and said, "A date for three people, is that not allowed?"

As it turned out, General Manager Yan’s jealousy was quite unjustified. Shi Lan had already clarified the purpose of bringing the child along, yet his furrowed brow still hadn’t relaxed.

If he hadn’t insisted on coming, wouldn’t they have been alone together?

"Soone promised not to ask any questions while out. Or perhaps, you’d prefer to go back to your eting?"
