Chapter 142: Chapter 142: Puppy Winslow, Quincy the Puppy Loves You
Holly Winslow: "..."
She waved to Valerie Walsh and the others. "Val, I’m going to eat with Mortir."
"Okay." Valerie smiled sweetly, then waved and left.
Pantheon’s expression was complicated. ’A girl’s feelings are truly impossible to figure out.’
’Rivals in love can beco good friends.’
’A woman’s heart is as deep as the ocean.’
He really couldn’t hold back and sidled over. "Cou—"
Before the "-sin" could leave his lips, a large hand shoved him away. Scholar Quincy’s signature cold voice followed, "Get that dog head of yours away from ."
Pantheon: "..."
Zeke Zane and the others laughed shalessly.
Pantheon stood a little farther away. "Cousin, are all you girls impossible to figure out?"
Holly: "..."
"A single guy wouldn’t get it."
Mortir raised a brow faintly, then kicked the motionless Pantheon, who seed to have been hit hard by the "single guy" jab. "Go get in line," he added.
The single guy, Pantheon: "..."
’You’re the one dating, and I have to get in line for you?’
’Mortir, aren’t you being a real jerk?’
’You want
to handle your romance for you, too?’
...
They spent the whole day taking practice exams and were only freed after the evening self-study session ended.
Pantheon let out a cry. "Ugh, I need a cup of instant noodles to save what’s left of my brain."
"Zeke, Quincy, Rook, you guys want so?"
"Yeah! Run! Or else all that’ll be left is the mushroom flavor. I’d rather do a math worksheet than eat mushroom-flavored instant noodles." Paul Powell grabbed his al card and bolted out of the classroom.
Holly hadn’t had instant noodles in a long ti. She looked at Mortir. He just raised an eyebrow. "No."
Holly: "..."
She didn’t get her instant noodles, but Mortir bought her an ice cream bar.
Before she even reached her dorm room door, she caught the strong sll of instant noodles. She sniffed the air. ’Slls so good.’
Inside the room, four or five people were making instant noodles—all of them pickled cabbage and beef flavor.
Valerie Walsh, wearing a cartoon nightgown, waved her over. "Holly, hurry! I made one for you. I even added a sausage stick." As she spoke, she moved over to make room for her.
"You guys go ahead and eat." Holly felt a little awkward about eating it.
Valerie pulled her down to sit. "Eat with us. It’s already made."
Jade Sullivan leaned over and whispered with a sly grin, "Holly, Tim Sutton bought them."
Tim Sutton was Valerie’s boyfriend.
Valerie shyly slapped Jade’s arm.
In the end, Holly ate with them. She hadn’t had instant noodles in ages and thought it was especially delicious. But along with the deliciousness ca a hint of guilt.
Jade couldn’t help but laugh at her. "Holly, the way you’re eating those noodles, you’d think you were eating a steak."
"I haven’t had instant noodles in a long ti," Holly explained with a grin.
"Why not? They’re not expensive," Lilian Upton said, slurping up a mouthful of noodles.
Anyone with eyes could see that the clothes and things Holly used were of better quality than anyone else’s in the dorm.
"My family won’t let
eat it." Holly didn’t ntion Mortir, afraid of making Valerie feel awkward, even though it wasn’t really an issue anymore.
From her recent interactions with her, she’d realized Valerie was actually quite a good person. Perhaps because she was an only child, she was sotis a little oblivious to others’ feelings.
But she didn’t have a truly malicious bone in her body.
"I heard instant noodles aren’t very good for you," Valerie said with a nod.
Suddenly, Holly’s phone started vibrating. She didn’t even need to look to know it was Mortir. She quickly bit off a mouthful of noodles, stood up, and went to the balcony to answer. "I’m about to take a shower. I’ll call you back later."
Before Mortir had a chance to say anything, the call was disconnected. "..."
He raised an eyebrow. ’Sothing’s fishy.’
His gaze fell upon the group of guys currently eating instant noodles.
’She’s probably sneaking so instant noodles.’
Only after she finished her noodles did Holly call Mortir back. The first words out of his mouth were, "Were the noodles good? What flavor?"
"Yeah, they were—"
Holly caught herself and imdiately changed her tune. She rubbed her nose and denied it, "I didn’t eat any."
’That guy Mortir’s intuition is always way too sharp.’
The "sorrow" of a married woman.
Mortir leaned lazily against the wall. "No more instant noodles for you this month. And that’s one yellow card warning."
Holly: "..."
Don’t be mistaken into thinking a "yellow card warning" was so serious matter. A yellow card warning ant ten kisses.
He only spoke in code like that when there were other people around.
She pouted. "Is your nose part dog or sothing?"
"It belongs to you, Puppy Winslow."
Mortir drew out the last syllable, his magnetic voice laced with a hint of seduction.
"Quincy the Puppy!"
"Puppy Winslow."
"Quincy the Puppy, Quincy the Puppy, Quincy the Puppy..."
Holly chanted it over and over. Mortir let out a series of low chuckles, his tone softening. "Puppy Winslow, Quincy the Puppy loves you."
Puppy Winslow instantly went quiet. The next second, a huge smile blood on her face. She burrowed under her blanket and humd a few tis. "Quincy the Puppy, saranghaeyo."
Hearing the word "saranghaeyo," Mortir chuckled again.
eting the curious gazes of his dorm mates, he calmly replied into the phone, "Saranghaeyo."
Zeke Zane and the others were silent for a few seconds before they all couldn’t help but let out a cough. Could you imagine the normally aloof Scholar Quincy suddenly spouting such cheesy, romantic words?
The feeling was as jarring as finding out five thousand years of civilized history was actually just one long love story.
Chase Hawkins choked on his instant noodles. He quickly gulped down a large mouthful of water. "I’m full. There’s still half a cup of noodles here, who wants it?"
’I’m stuffed from all their PDA.’
Paul Powell shalessly accepted it. He took a big slurp of noodles, then sothing suddenly occurred to him. "Mortir, your girlfriend’s last na is Winslow, too? What a coincidence! The sa last na as your cousin."
Zeke Zane, Pantheon, Chase Hawkins: "..."
’Dude, the truth is right on the tip of your tongue.’
’Just make a bold guess!’
"Mhm. Her surna is Winslow. You know, Holly’s."
Just then, Mortir heard the sound of a room check coming through the phone, and the next second, the call was disconnected.
’Holly’s surna is Winslow... Did he have to be so blatant about it!’
The three who were in on the secret—Pantheon, Zeke, and Chase—were speechless. "..."
"Whoa, what a coincidence! You don’t et many people with the last na Winslow."
After saying this, Paul Powell let out a big laugh. "For a second there, I almost thought you were talking to your cousin."
Pantheon just stared at him. ’You idiot. That’s the fucking truth.’
Boris Owens rolled his eyes, kicked Paul, and said in the tone of an experienced veteran, "Are you an idiot? Use your brain. Who do you think he’d talk to in that tone?"
"His girlfriend, obviously!"
Paul wasn’t convinced. He shot back without thinking, "Mortir’s like that with his cousin all the ti. Are you saying he isn’t?"
Boris thought for a mont. ’Now that he ntions it, that’s true.’ But he still shot Paul a look as if he were an idiot. "I can’t be bothered to argue with you. I’m gonna go tackle a set of problems. Gonna try and get all five right."
"Ugh, I’m about to puke from all these recent worksheets," he said, scratching his head in frustration.
And so, the trail to the truth went cold again.
With the show over, Pantheon, Zeke Zane, and Chase Hawkins all went back to their own howork.
...
After the midterm exams, Mortir successfully reclaid his throne in first place. Holly ca in third this ti, and Zeke Zane snagged second place by a margin of two points.
Holly had stumbled on the last major question of the math exam. She’d originally calculated the correct answer, but she changed it while double-checking and ended up getting it wrong.
She was a little dejected for a mont, but then she was happily looking forward to the two-day monthly break. When school let out, Valerie and the others invited her to go shopping with them the next day.
She agreed.
