Chapter 819: Chapter 819: Being Targeted
Zhong Min cried for a while, but eventually tidied up and went to greet the guests.
Lin Zhiyi stayed with her until the evening.
Most of the guests left first, leaving close family in the living room to keep watch.
After sending Zhong Min back to her room to rest, Lin Zhiyi wearily descended the stairs.
She walked around but didn’t see Gong Chen anywhere.
Upon seeing her, Chen Jin pointed to the direction of the morial hall in the courtyard.
“The Third Young Master went there and hasn’t co out since. You should go; I’ll look after Xingxing.”
“Alright.”
Lin Zhiyi went to the kitchen to get so food and then turned towards the morial hall.
The Chinese-style morial hall was filled with a solemn atmosphere.
Gong Chen had his back to the entrance, kneeling on the cushion, chanically burning paper money in the brazier in front of him.
Lin Zhiyi slowly approached, and a gentle breeze from outside slightly lifted.
The rising flas flickered, illuminating his face.
The black pupils seed to be burning everything.
“Third Young Master.”
Gong Chen paused with his hand clutching the paper money but then let go.
The paper money fell into the brazier and quickly disappeared.
“I should hate him, yet just now, my mind was full of the tis we spent together.”
“Actually, even if he didn’t force my mother to conceive, with her character, she would have gotten pregnant. She wouldn’t abandon the Jiang Family.”
“Even in death, she couldn’t stop worrying about the Jiang Family.”
Lin Zhiyi set down the food and knelt on a mat beside him, reaching out to place her hand on Gong Chen’s shoulder.
Gong Chen turned his head, his eyes rimd with red, flas flickering in his gaze.
Lin Zhiyi’s nose tingled, and she reached out to embrace Gong Chen.
“You’ve already done enough.”
Gong Chen took a deep breath, spoke lowly, “How did he just die like that? Zhiyi, don’t leave .”
“Hmm.”
Lin Zhiyi patted his back.
Elsewhere, at the Gong Family.
Old Mr. Gong sat in the tea room, listening to the butler report the situation.
“He’s dead?”
“Yes.” The butler nodded.
“Haha, he’s finally dead. Decades later, it’s finally over.”
The laughter echoed, but didn’t last long.
Old Mr. Gong pursed his lips.
“He actually just died like that, dead…”
He muttered, a different emotion colored his eyes.
Finally, he sighed and took a sip of tea.
“This is the flavor, his favorite tea.”
“When we were younger and making a ruckus at the tea house, he always complained I had too many ideas, then he’d pour a cup of this tea to quiet down.”
“When Xiaoyi and I got married, he even warned with a clenched fist to treat Xiaoyi well.”
“Decades passed in a blink, how did we end up like this?”
He set down his teacup, looking at the empty seat beside him.
“When was the last ti he sat here drinking tea with ?”
“Back then, Xiaoyi was still alive.”
“I’m old, old… Go prepare so things to send to the Jiang Family, I won’t go, lest he gets mad enough to co back to life.”
The butler was taken aback by these words.
“Yes, but regarding the Jiang Family…”
“Forget it, he’s dead now, and those two children have a tough life, it wasn’t ant to end.” Old Mr. Gong chuckled to himself, “I’m old, I can’t believe I’m showing rcy.”
“Old Master, the overseas nursing ho has been arranged, you can go for a retreat anyti.”
“Hmm.”
Just as he finished speaking, the door was knocked on.
He glanced at the butler.
The butler nodded, turned and opened the door.
It was Gong Yao.
Old Mr. Gong’s peripheral vision caught a glimpse, and he frowned subtly.
It was fleeting but still noticed by Gong Yao.
He maintained his expression, carrying sothing to Old Mr. Gong.
“Dad, you look well; the dicine seems to work.”
“Yes, good, I feel much better after taking it.”
Old Mr. Gong nodded in agreent.
Gong Yao handed over the dicine in his hand: “This is newly delivered dicine. Since Old Mr. Jiang’s death, I’ve beco more worried about your health, so I wanted to bring it sooner.”
Old Mr. Gong glanced at the dicine bottle.
He had it tested and found it indeed beneficial to his health.
After verifying the issue-free results, he began using the dicine, and his sleep improved significantly.
“Leave the dicine, I’m a bit tired.”
“Alright, Dad, I’ll leave now.” Gong Yao stood up.
“Tell your mother to behave herself lately.”
“…Yes.”
Gong Yao clenched his molars and hurried out of the tea room.
…
After Old Mr. Jiang’s burial, life returned to calm.
To help Mrs. Jiang recover quickly, Lin Zhiyi often invited her to the studio for tea and chats.
The twins would often co as well.
Gradually, everyone started looking forward.
Lin Zhiyi’s studio business grew better and better, gradually gaining fa.
However, with fa cos trouble.
So people, unable to find flaws in her work, began digging into her personal life.
Previously, she acknowledged online the existence of a ‘personal driver’.
Mysteriously, many paparazzi started following her.
To prevent people from discovering that she lived with Gong Chen, she had to take a detour daily to return ho.
Lin Zhiyi was annoyed, constantly feeling soone intentionally targeting her.
But continuing this way wasn’t a solution either.
After pondering, Lin Zhiyi decided there was only one person she could ask for help.
Today, she left work early, deliberately switching clothes and cars with her assistant, leaving the studio one after the other.
She went to the supermarket to buy so groceries, then returned ho to make a full table of dishes.
When Gong Chen returned ho and opened the door, he saw Lin Zhiyi standing in an apron at the door, looking dazed.
“Third Young Master, welco back.”
“Daddy, welco back.”
Gong Chen changed his shoes: “Out with it, what do you want?”
Xingxing looked up at Lin Zhiyi and imdiately betrayed her.
“Mom told to do this.”
Lin Zhiyi lowered her head to cover her mouth: “Why do you say everything?”
“Mmm mmm…” Xingxing looked helplessly at Gong Chen.
Gong Chen pulled Lin Zhiyi’s hand away and said to Xingxing: “Go wash your hands and eat.”
Xingxing turned and ran off.
Gong Chen took the opportunity to pull Lin Zhiyi in front of him.
“How co I’ve never seen this apron before?”
He touched the lace with his other hand.
Lin Zhiyi said: “I bought it at the supermarket today, but wait, I’m not here to talk about aprons.”
“Then what? Work?” Gong Chen queried.
“Sort of, I feel like I’m being watched, but after investigating for a long ti, I couldn’t figure out who it is. With your vast resources, you’ll definitely find out, right? Third Young Master.”
Lin Zhiyi tugged at his suit collar.
Gong Chen’s gaze lingered on her face for a few seconds, then fell back on the lace apron.
“The apron looks nice.”
“…”
Just as Lin Zhiyi was about to scold him, she suddenly understood sothing from his eyes.
She imdiately let go of his collar, lightly slapped his chest: “Don’t think!”
“Zhiyi…”
“Eat!”
Lin Zhiyi swatted his hand away, turned, and headed to the kitchen.
Gong Chen watched her reddened ears and smiled as he followed her.
At night.
After his shower, Gong Chen entered the room.
Lin Zhiyi was lying on the bed, only her head visible outside the thin blanket.
Gong Chen thought for a mont, pretended not to see, and leaned against the headboard, looking at his phone.
Lin Zhiyi clutched the blanket and waited a while, but noticed he was engrossed in his phone.
She pursed her lips: “Aren’t you sleeping?”
“Go ahead, I still have a bit to do.” Gong Chen replied nonchalantly.
“Can’t it wait until tomorrow?”
“Mm.” Gong Chen didn’t even glance at her.
Lin Zhiyi sighed inwardly, imdiately turned around, and tightly wrapped herself in the blanket.
“Going to sleep!”
