The muzzle was still emitting heat, carrying a subtle threat.

"Wait." Xu Si’s heart lurched, and her arm trembled as she shook off the well-aning yet presumptuous hands trying to protect her. She said to him politely, "Jarvis, I don’t need your protection. Please take your driver and leave. Thank you for your kindness today. I’ll thank you properly later."

Jarvis was puzzled. "I ca to take you away. I’ve been here before; you don’t have to worry. I like you. This is what I should do."

The more he explains, the worse it gets.

At this mont, Xu Si inexplicably felt like she was having a secret rendezvous with a lover and had been caught red-handed. It was a very strange feeling.

She also didn’t believe Jarvis had the capital to contend with Pei Zhen in the Underground City. If he said much more, the fate of being shot in the head—her fate from her past life—would befall Jarvis too.

With that thought, Xu Si simply opened the door of the white sedan. "No, Jarvis, it’s ti for you to go. I won’t leave with you."

After speaking, she walked over to Pei Zhen’s side.

She thought for a mont, then reached out, took the fingers of his hanging hand, and tugged gently. Her heart felt like a relentlessly surging sea.

A few seconds later, her soft, cool voice, tinged with a nasal quality, sounded. "Azhen, let him go. Just this once."

She thought helplessly that she was once again gambling with her emotions—not entirely for Jarvis, but also for herself.

Before she could finish speaking, Pei Zhen actually crouched down. With the cool, pale palm of his hand, adorned with a jewel-encrusted ring and unblemished by dust, he gently touched her tender white instep.

On it was a red mark from the friction of her new high heels, a mark she hadn’t even noticed herself.

Xu Si recoiled a step in surprise and alarm.

"You..."

Sensing her resistance, Pei Zhen kept his eyes lowered, his voice cool and largely devoid of emotion. "If I let him go, will you co with ?"

This was the outco she’d anticipated. Xu Si moved her lips. "Okay."

"Take off your shoes."

She bit her lip. "...Alright."

A gentle breeze, characteristic of that day, blew past.

The man paused, restraining himself. He took her hand, gently placed it around his neck, and then effortlessly swept her into his arms with one hand, lifting her feet off the ground.

His other hand carried her high heels.

Soone behind him raised a black umbrella, shielding them from the light, sunlit rain.

He was like a fierce yet docile vampire emperor, cradling the world he had yearned for, steadily and carefully walking step by step back to the world that was his alone.

But in this brief compromise, soone was clearly not content.

Behind them, Jarvis’s eyes reddened. His gentlemanly composure slipped as he said agitatedly, "You people have a saying, I’m sure you’ve heard it: ’First co, first served.’ I’ve known Xu Si for a long ti—we were university classmates. You can’t just take her away like this!"

The man’s footsteps paused. The crowd instinctively retreated, clearing a path for him. He turned his head slightly, revealing a smoothly defined profile. His gray eyes were cold with desire, and the corners of his finely sculpted lips curled.

"Let’s not even discuss whether you qualify."

"And how do you know I’m the one who ca later?"

"Get lost. Don’t make help you."

"Pei Zhen! You’re hurt! Don’t you realize?"

Xu Si couldn’t accept this level of intimacy; it felt like needles pricking her heart, but she still struggled a little.

Her arm rested on the man’s shoulder, now firm and broad, capable of supporting her entire weight.

"If you don’t move, I won’t die."

She couldn’t see his expression, and his voice, revealing no particular emotion, was as lodious as ever and didn’t sound strained.

"If you move again, I might really die at your hands. That would be fine too. I’m willing."

Xu Si pursed her lips and finally stopped fidgeting, rely marveling at his terrifying physical strength.

He laughed.

After laughing, he asked casually, "Didn’t you say you missed ? Why are you here then? If I hadn’t co today, would you have left?"

"No."

"Really?"

"Really," Xu Si said earnestly, telling the truth. "I didn’t plan to leave. I just wanted to get an Identity Card so I wouldn’t be so passive."

"Hmm." He smiled, his gaze fixed on the road ahead. "Perhaps. Xu Si, your words are always so pleasant to hear."

He dared not listen too much to her words, yet he couldn’t stop himself from believing them.

They arrived at a street intersection where a row of cars was parked.

Soone opened the door of the coupe in the middle.

Pei Zhen bent down, gently placed Xu Si in the back seat, then turned and walked to the other side to open his door.

During the ride, he remained silent, his eyes closed as if he were extrely weary.

Xu Si didn’t speak either.

Her heart ached for the Identity Card that had been nearly in her grasp. If Pei Zhen had arrived just a little later, she would have had the card. Then, even if she didn’t leave, she wouldn’t have been in so much danger.

The Triad Society’s district was as quiet as ever.

After returning to the mansion, Xu Si didn’t let him carry her again. She got out of the car first, high heels in hand, her bare feet landing on the smooth ground. She turned back to look at the man still sitting in the car and said softly, "Azhen, I think we need to have a serious talk."

Pei Zhen’s silver hair was swept back from his face. One hand rested on the car window, his eyelids still lowered. His long fingers tapped on the glass. "Hmm, a talk. After I finish my business. You go back first."

Xu Si’s sense of sll had always been sensitive. She seed to detect a faint scent of blood.

She paused for a mont, then walked over to Pei Zhen, reopened the car door, and reached out to lift his clothes.

The mont her soft fingertips touched the muscles of his abdon, they were grasped by his hand, its bones distinct.

Looking up at him, she t his slowly opening, ash-gray eyes—languidly seductive and holding a mysterious expression that was not quite a smile.

His voice was so bewitching it made the tips of her ears turn red.

"Auntie, if you like to touch, that’s fine. But with so many of my n around, could you leave so face?"

Xu Si was speechless for a mont.

She collected herself, then tried to say seriously, "I didn’t an to touch you."

But before she could continue, the man suddenly placed her hand back where it had been. He lowered his srizing eyes and said indulgently, "I can do without face too. Go on, touch."

There was no skill to this kind of teasing; it relied entirely on his devastatingly handso, perfectly sculpted features.

Even though Xu Si had no such intentions, she was captivated by the sensual sight and touch for over ten seconds, her ears burning. But her hand didn’t stop, reaching further up, where it indeed found a wet, bloodstained patch.

She looked down.

It was a horrific, bloody wound.

The injury was so grievous that Xu Si couldn’t help but feel a surge of alarm.

She gasped instinctively. "The wound from that day... it was that deep? I told you, you didn’t need to carry !"

"I think it was worth it," the man said with a light, teasing smile, as if he truly had been taken advantage of. He straightened his clothes, his expression unchanging, and cajoled, "You’re rarely so willing. How about you stab again next ti, and then let hold you?"

He’s truly insane.

Xu Si turned, quickly called for servants to help him to the top floor, and then had soone summon a doctor.

After the doctor treated the wound, he gave the servants many instructions for Pei Zhen’s care.

Xu Si was about to go see him but found the servants wouldn’t allow her onto the top floor. They wore the sa insincere smiles as before and offered the sa excuse: "The Boss said he doesn’t want Sister-in-law to see him when he’s not at his best."

Xu Si frowned.
