Chapter 579: Chapter 579: Black Tortoise greets the Master!
Mu Yan stood there, returning to the place where he lived as a child after more than ten years.
He never believed his mother was dead. Previously, he didn’t care about his family background because he hated his mother. Now he wanted to investigate his lineage because this woman might still be alive.
Today, he got a definite answer: his mother isn’t dead; she’s beco the Empress of Eastern Wei.
Zhan Lan once told him in a separate courtyard that his biological father might be soone else, and only then did he start to send people to investigate his lineage.
He knows Zhan Lan’s movents like the back of his hand because his mother, due to the fall of Zhongzhou, has beco ntally unstable, a madwoman. He fears she might harm Zhan Lan.
Thus, he followed Zhan Lan here.
Huang Gun was discovered by Zhan Lan last ti as his informant, so he can’t be used anymore.
If it weren’t for his n closely tracking Zhan Lan’s movents, he wouldn’t have discovered how Zhan Lan left the hostel.
His subordinates reported to him two n leaving the hostel; only then did he manage to track Zhan Lan’s movents.
Transforming from a woman into a man, it must have been a disguise!
Then, Lan’er, being such a cautious person, definitely wouldn’t randomly find soone to help her with a disguise; she must be with the master of disguise skills, Ghost Hand, the Silver-faced Fox.
Lan’er is also investigating matters concerning his biological mother. It’s entirely his fault for causing Lan’er to worry. Mu Yan refocused his thoughts and looked towards Vermilion Bird.
“How’s the negotiation going?”
Vermilion Bird nodded, “Our Dayu delegation will arrive at Luyu City tomorrow.”
“Good,” Mu Yan continued gazing out the window.
“Master, according to the spies’ report, Princess Anyang refused the request to enter the palace and accompany the Empress. She wants to go out with Madam to tour the Imperial City.” Vermilion Bird reported truthfully.
Mu Yan frowned, the Empress of Eastern Wei is his biological mother, then Princess Anyang is his sister.
That foolish sister has raised so many lovers, so of whom are spies for others, although among the spies, there are also his people.
Moreover, Princess Anyang can’t even tell the difference between n and won, mistaking her sister-in-law for a man.
Truly foolish!
“Master, Black Tortoise is here,” Vermilion Bird brought in Black Tortoise, the Deputy Commander of the Hidden Guard remaining in Eastern Wei.
“Black Tortoise greets the Master!” A burly masked man kneeled on one knee to pay respect to Mu Yan.
“Stand up!” Mu Yan gently raised his hand.
Black Tortoise reported to Mu Yan about so matters concerning the Imperial Family and the negotiations of Eastern Wei.
Mu Yan listened to these matters, then instructed:
“Black Tortoise, it’s not easy to plant spies within the Eastern Wei palace, but you’ve been in Eastern Wei for many years, and I trust your abilities. Gradually place spies into the palace, but make sure they’re unaware of each other’s existence, proceed!”
Black Tortoise understood the Master’s intention; this is their usual thod. In case of an espionage betrayal, they can identify it imdiately, minimizing larger losses and ensuring the accuracy of intelligence.
“Yes, Master, I will definitely fulfill the expectations. I’ll take my leave.” Black Tortoise departed respectfully.
Vermilion Bird then said: “Master, Yulong Bank currently has fifteen sub-banks in Eastern Wei. Should we expand further?”
Mu Yan rubbed his fingers, “No need, the bigger the tree, the more likely it attracts the wind; being second place is not bad.”
As the two were speaking, suddenly, Mu Yan’s gaze caught sight through the window’s gap of a carriage passing along the long street, bearing the golden wood sign of the Princess Mansion.
Mu Yan removed his mask and put on a broad hat.
Vermilion Bird also donned a broad hat and imdiately followed.
The carriage they boarded followed behind Princess Anyang’s carriage.
Princess Anyang’s carriage was large enough to accommodate ten people, with a stove inside, warm and cozy.
Zhan Lan listened to Princess Anyang describe which places in the Imperial City were worth visiting while looking out at the scenery through the sheer curtain.
The Imperial City was bustling, and the Princess’s carriage stopped at several places. In the busy long street, Zhan Lan noticed that their carriage had been followed by another carriage.
The people in the carriage seed very cautious, changing to several different carriages along the way.
She was always vigilant; even though they changed carriages, she was sure they were being followed.
The long street was bustling, with neither Princess Anyang nor her guards noticing anything unusual.
Princess Anyang was touring with Mr. Lan, feeling quite cheerful. She stood by the lake and said, “In our Imperial City, there’s a particularly good restaurant called Drunken Eight Immortals. Mr. Lan must be hungry; I’ll take you there.”
Zhan Lan nodded slightly and got into the carriage with Princess Anyang.
After arriving at the restaurant, she followed Princess Anyang into a private room.
The private room was elegantly decorated, and the view from the window showcased the scenery outside.
The maid poured tea for the two, and Princess Anyang rubbed her chin against the blue and white porcelain cup, looking at Zhan Lan, “I have so words I’d like to say to Mr. Lan.”
The two maids closed the door from outside.
Zhan Lan was already aware of the trailing; she reminded, “Princess, beware that walls may have ears.”
Princess Anyang laughed and said, “Mr. Lan, you needn’t worry, this place is very secluded, it’s my private room; no one can hear us.”
Zhan Lan’s gaze darkened slightly. So things can’t be taught in a day or two. If the Princess Anyang wasn’t possibly Mu Yan’s sister, she wouldn’t bother reminding.
So things might indeed be impossible to teach; perhaps she only learns after suffering losses herself.
“Mr. Lan, I know eting you for the first ti was quite abrupt, but these past two days with you, I have been very happy. You are both a teacher and a friend to ; I’ve never felt this way about anyone. You are such a gentleman; I’ve rembered all your kind reminders.”
Princess Anyang lifted the cup to take a sip, masking her embarrassed expression.
She was confessing to Mr. Lan, not knowing whether the other had noticed. If she couldn’t keep Mr. Lan today, who knows when they’d et again.
She cleared her throat and continued, “I’ve decided to disband my lovers; you were right, few among them are worthy of my trust.”
Zhan Lan nodded, “The princess can make her own decisions.”
Princess Anyang shifted her position intending to get closer to her; Zhan Lan’s gaze swept over, and Princess Anyang stopped moving.
She awkwardly said, “Mr. Lan, would you like a drink? They have so many good wines here.”
“I don’t drink; is there any delicious food here?” Zhan Lan took the opportunity to change the topic.
Princess Anyang’s eyes lit up, “Drunken Eight Immortals has so much delicious food; if I hadn’t inford beforehand, we surely wouldn’t get to taste their dishes.”
Princess Anyang clapped her hands toward outside the door.
Soon, a table filled with exquisite dishes was served.
“Mr. Lan, please taste it.” Princess Anyang propped her chin up, looking expectantly at Zhan Lan.
“Princess Anyang, join us!” Zhan Lan picked up chopsticks and handed them to her.
Mr. Lan’s amicable gesture made Princess Anyang blossom.
She accepted the chopsticks and tasted the dishes together with Zhan Lan.
Zhan Lan ate a few bites of the dishes and suddenly felt that the taste was sowhat familiar.
But she couldn’t imdiately recall where the familiarity ca from.
Until a servant ca in and opened a jar of wine, her senses were instantly awakened by the aroma.
