Emma Lewis finished speaking and slamd the dorm room door shut.

After bringing Alia Wright in, she quickly went to the bathroom to run the water.

While looking for a change of clothes for Alia, she said, "Why are you still just standing there? You’re freezing, hurry and go take a hot shower. I’ll find you sothing to change into."

"Emma, I..."

Alia just started to speak, only to be interrupted by Emma: "Whatever you have to say, say it after you’ve taken a shower."

Emma pushed Alia into the bathroom.

Alia quickly showered, put on the clothes Emma had found for her, and ca out.

Her complexion wasn’t as pale anymore. Her hair was wet, and her eyes were too as she looked at Emma and said, "Emma, I’m sorry."

The resentnt Emma felt suddenly dissipated.

When Alia had told her to leave, saying she didn’t need friends, Emma was actually very angry.

For the first ti in her life, apart from her comrades in the military, she tried making a friend, treating her sincerely, only to end up like this. Emma thought she’d never want to see Alia again, or even if she did, she’d never forgive her.

But when Alia showed up at the dormitory door, drenched, Emma’s first reaction wasn’t anger but worry about how weak she looked, and what if she got sick from acting so recklessly?

And now, Alia had apologized, and Emma didn’t even need any ntal preparation—she just forgave her.

Emma sighed and said, "You just know I’m soft-hearted towards you, don’t you?"

Alia shook her head, her voice small as she said, "I’ve done a lot of bad things. I was worried that being too close to would hurt you. At the ti, I wanted everyone who was good to to stay far away."

Listening to Alia’s explanation, Emma wasn’t angry anymore; instead, she felt pity.

This self-loathing, what had Alia been through to develop this kind of self-rejection? At the ti, when Alia asked her to leave, Emma was only angry and never noticed.

Alia had even called her brother once!

Emma softened her voice and comforted, "Alright, I forgive you."

Alia looked up, her eyes doe-like and watery, looking at Emma: "Really?"

Emma felt a voice cursing in her mind. Facing such eyes, even if it were false, she’d have to say it’s true.

"Really, really, I’m generous. I won’t hold it against you."

Alia started to smile, and she said while laughing, "Actually, my clothes got wet today, and I could have just bought a new set to change into. I made an excuse for myself saying the school was nearby and I needed to go back to change, but actually, I just wanted to co and apologize to you."

Emma couldn’t help but laugh, "Why are you acting so awkward about apologizing?"

Alia laughed happily, "Before, I also tried to say sorry and apologize, but no one would accept it. I thought you wouldn’t accept it either."

In her previous life, Alia was timid; whether she was right or wrong, she was always saying sorry, always apologizing.

But back then, no one accepted her apologies; they were t with more bullying.

So, for Alia, that long-standing psychological shadow made her reject apologies.

But this was Emma Lewis, soone like Robert Reed—caring for her with no demands or ulterior motives, just pure kindness.

Emma felt even more heartache as she listened.

Alia sneezed, seeming to have caught a slight cold.

Emma quickly grabbed a hairdryer to dry Alia’s hair and couldn’t help but scold, "Knowing your health isn’t good, yet you were so careless."

Alia honestly said, "Actually... I thought if I looked a bit pathetic, you might feel sorry for , which would increase my chances of a successful apology."

Emma was both amused and exasperated, "Alia! Where did you get so much cunning!"

"Emma, I haven’t eaten lunch yet; I’m hungry."

"... Once your hair is dry, I’ll take you to eat."

"Okay."

Emma took Alia to the school canteen and bought a table full of food for her.

Watching Alia eat quietly, Emma felt a kind of joy, like feeding a pet.

Emma watched Alia eat and then said, "Generally, apologies should co with gifts."

Alia’s gaze moved from the food to Emma’s face.

Emma’s eyes lit up, "How about this, accompany to a banquet, and that’ll be my gift."

"What kind of banquet?"

"My mom insisted I go to a high-society banquet. Actually, I understand, my mom wants to et so young talents. She told to find a male partner, but I’ll just bring a female friend, hehe."

Alia swallowed her food and asked, "Is that okay?"

Emma slapped the table confidently, "Of course, it’s fine! I’m not into those guys who look decent on the outside but are wild behind the scenes. Accompany , and it’ll be your apology gift."

Alia hesitated for a mont but agreed, "Alright then."

This ti, she rembered that apologizing requires giving a gift.

Seeing Alia agree, Emma was satisfied, "Then have Hailey watch Emily for the next couple of days, and we’ll head out tomorrow."

Alia’s smile faded, "Hailey has already left."

Emma didn’t catch the emotion in Alia’s words and casually asked, "Did you chase Hailey away too?"

Alia shook her head, "No, she left on her own. She’s... scared of ."

Alia suddenly lost her appetite.

Emma paused for a mont, reached out, and rubbed Alia’s head, "It’s okay, she’ll co back."

Alia shook her head and didn’t continue the topic.

...

On the way back, Alia entrusted Emily to her brother.

Emily didn’t mind spending ti with her brother. Giving them more ti together now would make it easier in the future when Emily returns to the Allen family.

Edward Allen was more than happy to help watch over Emily and offhandedly asked, "Where are you going?"

Alia said directly, "Emma wants to accompany her to a banquet in the Capital City tomorrow, and I might be delayed for two or three days. I’ll co back as soon as possible."

Edward, hearing that Alia was going to the Capital City, opened his mouth slightly. Mom and Dad had co all the way to Riverwood City to see their sister but couldn’t even talk to her, and now she was going to the Capital City.

But then Edward thought if it’s a Lewis family banquet, maybe the Allen family could join, too.

Maybe then Mom and Dad could go, and they’d have a legitimate chance to make contact with their sister.

Edward imdiately said, "That’s fine, take your ti and enjoy yourself for a couple of more days. No rush to co back."

Alia responded softly, "Thanks... bro."

Edward’s smile was so wide it was almost ear-splitting, "Hey~~ Between us, there’s no need for thanks!"

Edward hurried to where their parents were staying. After telling them about it, Mr. and Mrs. Allen quickly booked the earliest flight back to the Capital City.

They were determined that no matter what kind of banquet it was at the Lewis family, the two of them would attend!

The next day, Alia boarded a plane to the Capital City with Emma.

She had no idea what might happen at this banquet, thinking she was just going to accompany Emma as a formality, but she was a little worried that Emma’s parents might get angry.
