Linda walked in front of without turning back. Her body was shaking slightly-she was crying.

I followed her to the basent of the main building. Geno Society’s laboratory was there.

The place was now empty after being discovered by the police. The asylum had stopped operating, and all its patients were re-evaluated-those with grievances were all investigated.

Dexter and the Rebels’ ploy ended up saving the lives of many.

Geno Society used to be arrogant. Whover they thought couldn’t be killed would be sent to the asylum under various pretenses.

They would then be subjected to thods that would lead to passive "brain dead", making the families sign organ donation agreents under the guise of "easing their burden’.

Such covert operations were beyond humane.

Now, with Geno Society’s laboratories gradually being exposed, their cris were finally coming to light. Activities like organ trafficking, human trafficking, geno editing, and various inhumane experints were being revealed one after another.

"They used to lock Dexter up to torture and abuse him in the old building. They wanted to destroy his ntal world but failed to do so.

"No matter how cruel their thods were, Dexter had always held onto a single belief-you. He would call your na every ti, saying that you were still waiting for him.’

Linda turned to with reddening eyes. "I’m envious and jealous of you, yet I don’t despise you. You were his hope and light for surviving."

Dexter would’ve given up long if it weren’t for his belief.

Linda said, ’Actually, all these things were his belongings left in the old building of the asylum. The people from Geno Society transported everything exactly how it was after moving to the new building.

"They had also tried to unlock the key to the geno and reincarnation. Unfortunately, they weren’t as smart as Dexter."

I followed Linda into a room. It was a spacious room, similar to the one Dexter had been locked up in at the old building

The walls were still covered with intricate mathematical formulas, as if he had been working to calculate sothing.

I wasn’t sure how Dexter found the key to reincarnation. I had also tried solving this puzzle, but I failed. "These were the specins he left in the asylum." Linda walked to a corner and took out an old, yellowing notebook with frayed edges. There was a letter inside. ’This is the letter he left for you."

Dexter had written this letter many years ago when he first altered my mories.

"Your parents and Andy died a horrific death during that car accident. Dexter was the one who rescued you and altered your mories. He wanted you to continue living a good life," Linda looked at and said.

She continued, "He worked together with my dad to alter your mories. He couldn’t trust my dad entirely, and he was also afraid that there might be complications after you got your mories altered like it might turn you dumb...

"He had just survived a fire at that ti and had severe burns all over his body. He kept risking his life to escape the hospital, all just to see you to make sure you’re okay and living well"

I rembered soone had always been watching from behind during the ti I lost my mories. He had been following because he was worried about .

I took the letter with trembling fingers. Dexter had already written this letter back then.

"Was he determined to die since then?" I softly asked, hesitant to open the letter.

Linda said, "He never left himself any way out. In fact, he ca close to dying many tis over these years he had always been teetering on the edge of death."

"The reason he could escape the grasp of death was because he wanted to be with you. He wanted to live an ordinary life with you, even if only for a short ti."

I gripped the letter numbly.

Suddenly, I could understand why Dexter was so agitated when I offered to risk myself to look for Geno Society’s laboratory in the desolate area.

He told that there wasn’t much ti left and refused to let go. He told that he was selfish and only wanted to stay with .

If I hadn’t gone at that ti, we would have been able to live in the villa on the mountain and spend ti together for a while. But I went anyway, and we ended up wasting too much ti.

That was why Dexter was in a rush to alter my mories again. He then went to et the mastermind of Geno Society with his real identity.

After that, in order to convince everyone that ’Sophia’ was completely gone, he blew himself up in the laboratory together with "Sofia’s" body.

He wanted to prove Sophia’s death using his own.

Dexter wanted Damien to keep on the mountain and prevent from coming down in order to keep alive. I could only live an ordinary life after all the subsequent troubles were gradually resolved.

Geno Society set up a huge trap, and we were all insects caught in it, ant to be devoured one at a ti. Later on, soone started opposing them. My parents started the Rebels together with Andy in order to fight against Geno Society’s trap and the forces behind it.

After my parents’ death, I took over the Rebels and started my own trap.

Our plan was initially progressing slowly. The trap I had set was originally ant to be fatal-I would die, and Geno Society would be destroyed. We would both perish together.

And then, my variable showed up-Dexter had also set up a huge trap.

He wrapped up tightly in his trap, protecting all this while. He took over my role and did what I was supposed to do-including dying on my behalf.

That was why Dexter must have known that Carol was likely behind the serial murder cases. He would’ve figured it out early given how intelligent he was

Yet he did not say a word and even hid it from deliberately. That was because he wanted to expose Geno Society’s secrets using Carol’s hands.

Dexter knew that despite Carol’s ruthlessness, she was a smart and capable person. Anyone else other than her might not have succeeded with it.

"Did he leave anything else other than this letter and these things?" I asked, looking up at Linda.

She fell silent for a good while before taking out a small box from the corner. "Do you still rember that you had a child together?"

Stunned, I took the box with numbing fingers.

I finally rembered the past that Dexter desperately wanted to forget-we had lost our child before. Back then, I knew little about feelings. I was only curious about what my child with Dexter would be like. My parents once ntioned that it was hard for to conceive naturally as I was a clone subject with incomplete gene chains. Even if a child was born, there might be a possibility of it having so uncontrollable genetic mutation.

But I was rebellious in my late teens. I was stubborn in finding out what our child would be like.

We had just lost our child before I lost my mories from the car accident.

That was also why Dexter had confined and restrained during that ti. Because of my pregnancy and the fact that I was a clone subject, I started to beco irrational, wanting to commit suicide and inflict harm on myself.

He began to feel afraid. He was worried that those people might kill the child inside . But the child ended up dying eventually.

Linda said, ’This was both his obsession and his pain. He wanted to bury this child together with you, but he was worried that you might recall that mory."
