Chapter 371: Chapter 371: Aren’t You Afraid of Drinking Soone To Death?
Tong Yao took a day off at ho, and the next day she refused to stay at ho. Si Chen initially disagreed with her going back to work, but later, seeing that Deng Wenwen had a bicycle and could take Tong Yao to the shop, he reluctantly compromised.
However, he insisted that she had to finish work early in the afternoon to go to the hospital to change her dicine. Tong Yao felt Si Chen was making a mountain out of a molehill, but for the sake of marital harmony, she agreed to this sowhat exaggerated demand.
In the blink of an eye, a week had passed. The shop across the street opened, the business was very good, but Tong Yao’s custor base had halved, which was sothing she expected, so she didn’t feel surprised.
People have the habit of preferring novelty and growing tired of the old. It’s perfectly normal to want to try a new flavor after sticking to one brand for a long ti.
There would be even more milk tea brands in the future, and the business competition would beco fierce. Tong Yao preferred to be a hands-off stockholder and not involve herself in the day-to-day operations.
Unlike Tong Yao, Deng Wenwen didn’t have the sa level of patience. Whenever she had nothing better to do, she would pay attention to the business across the street, counting how many custors they had and how many cups of milk tea they sold.
"Sister Yaoyao, what do you think the boss across the street is up to? Why on earth did he open a shop right in front of ours? There are so many places in Kyoto, why did he have to do it here? It’s obviously up to no good."
Tong Yao lifted her eyelids and glanced across the street, grinning mischievously. "Over ti, the fox’s tail will reveal itself. Just wait patiently."
Deng Wenwen made several cat clawing motions towards the opposite shop. When she saw custors entering the shop, she imdiately put on a pleasing smile. Tong Yao couldn’t help but both laugh and cry at her antics.
In the afternoon, Lin Fengying made a call and said that she had sent over so replenishing dicine and instructed Tong Yao to boil it in water and drink it thrice daily for one week.
Tong Yao initially wanted to refuse, but Lin Fengying said that it had already been sent and repeatedly reminded her to drink it before hanging up.
Tong Yao was suspicious. Si Chen was a doctor and would have told her if she needed to make up for anything. Besides, she was strong and healthy, why would she need any supplents?
"Sister Yaoyao, your mother-in-law is really so good to you, even sending you nutritional supplents." Deng Wenwen’s eyes shone with envy. "If my grandmother was as nice as your mother-in-law, my mom wouldn’t grit her teeth every ti she ntioned her. When I find a mother-in-law, I’ll certainly look for soone who ets your mother-in-law’s standards."
"I’d rather she send so pickles, at least Ah Chen likes to eat them, why do I, who is strong and vigorous, need to drink nutritional supplents?" Don’t I enjoy eating two pounds of pork ribs?
Sothing was off. Tong Yao had a hunch that this supplent was definitely nothing good. She had originally planned to discuss this issue with Si Chen in the evening, but she forgot. It was only when she received the package that she rembered.
Upon opening it and seeing the inside filled with unnad herbs, Tong Yao wasn’t fooled and figured out the entire thing by herself. She didn’t lose her temper, but simply boiled them into a strong-slling potion. The heavy dicinal sll made her feel as though she was suffocating. As she opened the door to go out, she heard Liu Qing complaining to soone else.
"What the hell are they boiling? It slls like dicine and it stinks to death. Don’t they have any sense of public virtue?"
After a period of fuss, without receiving the house, Liu Qing was in a bad mood lately. Seeing even a dog pass by would result in a few curses from her. Tong Yao was annoyed by her whining and didn’t bother to engage her, so she just went back into the house.
"What did you cook? Why does it sll like dicine?" Si Chen asked as he directly walked to the dining table after getting off work and frowned when he saw the dark concoction in the pot.
Tong Yao playfully looked at him and said, "Mum sent this, she said it’s for my health. I thought you have been working hard every day, so I couldn’t just enjoy it by myself. So I cooked a whole pot for you to drink as well. You go and take a shower quickly, I will heat this up again."
"Stop joking." Si Chen helplessly held Tong Yao’s hand, again looked at the dark potion in the pot and said, "You can’t drink these things of unknown origin. It could cause troubles. I’m going to throw it away."
"No!" Tong Yao held on to the pot refusing to let it be dumped, "This is sent from mum, how can it be sothing of unknown origin? It would be a pity to dump it. If you are not drinking then I will drink it! Maybe after drinking it I can really give you a fat son."
Before Tong Yao didn’t know what Lin Fengying had sent over. But once she saw the dication, she understood. Lin Fengying must believe that she couldn’t conceive, and had gotten so folk redies from sowhere, wanting her to drink it in order to have a child.
This type of situation, usually only seen in TV dramas, was happening in real life and it made Tong Yao feel sowhat uneasy. She hadn’t treated Lin Fengying poorly. If Lin Fengying thought it was her problem, she could have told her openly that they both should get dical examinations. But why was she secretly resorting to these herbal redies?
Didn’t she fear she might poison soone to death?
Her own son was a doctor and she believed in such things, Tong Yao was really exasperated.
This ti she sent these things, next ti who knew, she may send over dog feces or horse urine.
Si Chen wanted to hug Tong Yao to calm her emotions, but rembering that he hadn’t showered yet, he had to stand by and only held her hand and said, "Even if it’s our physical reasons that’s causing us not to have children, we should be treated at a regular large hospital, not relying on the folk prescriptions she sent. I’ll give her a call after work tomorrow."
After hearing this, Tong Yao felt much better and she let go of her hold on the pot, allowing Si Chen to dump the potion. Actually, she didn’t an to cause trouble, she was just uncomfortable.
All mothers-in-law are really the sa. If there’s no pregnancy, they look for faults in their daughter-in-law instead of considering whether their son might play a role.
Thinking this, Tong Yao humd at Si Chen who had gone into the kitchen to dispose of the potion. "Initially, I thought I’d encountered a once-in-a-thousand-years good mother-in-law. Now I realize I was overthinking. Thank goodness we don’t live together, otherwise our life would be unbearable."
She needed to call Si Boyi tomorrow to ask about the progress of introducing a companion to Lin Fengying. Lin Fengying couldn’t be allowed to keep coming to Kyoto to make trouble anymore, who knew how much more trouble she would cause.
After Si Chen dumped the potion into the sink, he then dumped the residue into the trash can and finally responded lightly, "It’s better for the two generations not to live together. It’s more comfortable for everyone. She is healthy and can take care of herself. We just need to provide living expenses every month. When the ti cos that she really needs care, we can hire a nanny for her who will probably take better care than we could."
Tong Yao blinked her eyes, "What should we do if she cos to Kyoto?"
As long as Si Weimin was in Kyoto for one day, Lin Fengying would inevitably co sooner or later.
Si Chen decisively said, "She is not coming here for us. We can just stop giving living expenses. Once she returns back to Li City, we will give it again."
Talking about Lin Fengying, Si Chen seems to feel a duty towards her, but without too much mother and son bonding. But hearing his pre-planned, decisive response made Tong Yao’s initially downcast mood completely dissipated. She happily urged Si Chen to go take a bath quickly, promising him a passionate hug as a reward.
